13 April Update

Russian forces are pursuing at least three operational-level efforts that are not mutually reinforcing but let Russian forces prioritize grinding, tactical gains on a single sector of their choice at a time. Ukrainian forces will increasingly struggle to defend against these Russian efforts the longer Ukraine lacks further US military assistance.

Germany announced that it will immediately transfer another Patriot air defense system to Ukraine in response to recent very urgent Ukrainian requests for additional Patriot systems to defend against the increased Russian strike campaign amid ongoing Ukrainian efforts to expand Ukraine’s air defense capabilities.

Russian forces made confirmed advances near Chasiv Yar (west of Bakhmut) and Donetsk City.

14 April Update

Russia’s strike campaign against Ukraine demonstrates that even a limited number of successful ballistic or cruise missile strikes can cause significant and likely long-term damage to energy and other infrastructure, highlighting the need for an effective and well-provisioned air defense umbrella capable of a sustained high rate of interception.

Ukrainian forces advanced south of Kreminna and southwest of Donetsk City and Russian forces recently made confirmed advances near Chasiv Yar (west of Bakhmut) and Avdiivka.

Another Russian Dam is in the process of collapsing , not Partisans but neglect.

Russian media report that the level of the Ural river in Orenburg has risen again. It is now 11 meters 62 cm, with the maximum allowable value of 9 meters 30 cm. A full evacuation of the population has been announced in the Gazodobytchikov settlement.

"As the flood level continues to rise, there is a real risk of dam break," the Orenburg district administration reported.

The water level in the Tobol river in Kurgan rose by 7 cm and reached 4 m 16 cm for 12 hours. "Big water" is expected here in four days, so locals were urged to have a month's supply of water.

This is disturbing. I don't know if you'll be able to watch these RFU (Reporting From Ukraine) youtube videos or not, because the RFU channels in languages other than English are being deleted by youtube apparently from a bot attack reporting all the RFU channels. He thinks it's just a matter of time before the English channel gets deleted too and youtube is being unresponsive to his complaints the bot report attack is fake. A lot of comments think Russian hackers directed by Putin's regime may be behind the bot attack. So if you think you might want to see these, better hurry, they could disappear at any time.

First, this video posted yesterday has a preview saying that the Russian forces trying to storm white mountain all died, but that's an exaggeration because when you read the title they didn't all die, only 97% did, and 3% survived.

I guess Putin might not have liked this report because if the speculations are correct about Russian bots spamming reports against the RFU channels, putin might be successful in getting it removed from youtube, which is appalling if true.

I've watched most of this channel's videos and the guy tries very hard to follow the youtube rules, and doesn't show a lot of things he'd like to show that might break the rules, even though CNN somehow gets away with posting the same kind of stuff.

He has a patreon channel which he said you can join patreon for free and watch the updates he was posting on youtube for free on patreon. He also has a premium patreon channel with more in-depth analysis but I never subscribed to that.

15 April Update

Ukrainian Main Military Intelligence Directorate (GUR) Head Lieutenant General Kyrylo Budanov stated that Ukrainian forces are preparing to repel a future Russian major offensive expected in late May or the beginning of June but noted that this will be “catastrophically difficult” without Western military assistance.

Russian forces recently made confirmed advances near Siversk (northeast of Bakhmut), Avdiivka, and west of Donetsk City on April 15.

16 April Update

Zelensky signed a new mobilization law on April 16, codifying a difficult but critical decision in Ukraine’s efforts to stabilize its force generation apparatus and adequately prepare the Ukrainian fighting force both defensively and offensively.

Spokesperson of the Ukrainian National Guard Colonel Ruslan Muzychuk stated that Russian forces in eastern Ukraine have not recently used large units to conduct assaults but are instead using groups split into two detachments reinforced with armored vehicles to conduct ground attacks.

People’s Republic of China (PRC) President and General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Xi Jinping met with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on April 16 and proposed prerequisites for the end to the war in Ukraine in a manner that suggests that Xi is continuing to posture himself as a neutral mediator in the war despite increasing reports of China’s support for the Russian war effort.

Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) recently destroyed a Russian Nebo-U long-range radar station in Bryansk Oblast.

Russian forces made confirmed advances near Bakhmut, Avdiivka, and Donetsk City and in western Zaporizhia Oblast amid continued positional engagements along the entire line of contact on April 16.

17 April Update

Ukrainian forces struck a Russian military airfield in occupied Dzhankoi, Crimea, overnight on April 16 to 17. Geolocated footage posted on April 16 shows explosions at the airfield in Dzhankoi, where the Russian 39th Separate Helicopter Regiment (27th Composite Aviation Division, 4th Air Force and Air Defense Army, Southern Military District) is based.

US aid to Ukraine more or less ended in 2023 and while the US senate passed an aid bill for Ukraine, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson wouldn't put it up for a vote. I thought he was a puppet being pulled by Trump's strings to delay the vote. Now he has come up with a bill that's almost the same except he has replaced the financial support part of the senate bill with a "forgivable loan", which if it's forgiven, it will end up being the same thing. After the attack on Israel he finally sees some urgency and is now saying he wants to support Ukraine, seems like a turnaround for him, and will put up the new bill for a vote probably on Saturday:

On Wednesday, Johnson told reporters: “History judges us for what we do. This is a critical time right now.” According to reports in the Washington Post, Johnson’s opposition to Ukraine aid has changed since he became speaker and began to receive intelligence briefings more frequently.

So, Johnson was opposed to giving aid to Ukraine, but he's apparently completely changed his tune now that he's getting security briefings and knows how dire the situation is, he is finally saying some things that make sense. Let's hope for the sake of Ukraine, the bill passes, since Zelensky said Ukraine will lose the war without US support.

On a related note, some other republicans still haven't seen the light like Mike Johnson has, about how much Ukraine needs US support. "Moscow Marge" as she's been nicknamed because of her repeating Russian propaganda as if she's on a Russian payroll, otherwise known as Marjorie Taylor Greene is a heroine in the Russian media for saying things like Ukrainians are nazis and shouldn't be supported. As we've discussed before, many countries have a small fraction of nazis, including Ukraine, Russia, the US, and EU countries, but it's just propaganda to claim Ukraine has more nazis than Russia has, I'm sure Russia has more.

She makes some nonsense argument that supporting Ukraine is causing people to die, and that's why she doesn't want to support Ukraine because she doesn't want so many deaths. The reason it's nonsense is we've seen both Ukrainians and Russians die both with and without US support, so cutting off support isn't going to stop people from dying, it will just tilt the war in Russia's favor since as someone said, "The side that can't shoot back, loses". Almost all the comments to this video seem opposed to "Moscow Marge". I don't see how she can have any sane supporters, but I think she somehow does, though I didn't see their comments to this video for some reason, maybe because this really makes her look bad, being the hero of the enemy of the USA:

She is being praised in the Russian media. This is a really bad look for a US congresswoman and many of the comments call her a traitor for repeating Russian propaganda talking points which are basically lies.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed on April 17 that Ukrainian forces conducted a successful strike against the Russian airfield in Dzhankoi. Ukraine’s Main Military Intelligence Directorate (GUR) reported on April 18 that the strike destroyed or critically damaged four S-400 air defense launchers, three radar stations, an air defense equipment control point, and a Murom-M airspace surveillance system.

German authorities detained two individuals suspected of aiding Russia in its ongoing efforts to sabotage NATO member states’ military infrastructure and logistics. German outlet Der Spiegel reported on April 18 that German authorities arrested two suspects in Bayreuth, Bavaria for allegedly planning sabotage operations in Germany on behalf of Russian security services.

It has been reported last few days that American separatists Russell Bentley in Donbas who was fighting against Ukraine was killed by Russian soldiers in the occupyed area there.

Russian telegram channels report that either russian or DPR soldiers killed an American citizen, military Z-blogger Russell Bentley, who was fighting on the side of russia. In the USA Bentley was convicted of drug smuggling and spent 5 years in prison. In 2014 he decided to come to Ukraine to "help" the russian army to "liberate Donbass". He took the callsign "Texas" and as part of the "Vostok" and "Khan" battalions he took part in combat operations against the Ukrainian army. Over time, he became a war correspondent, obtained russian citizenship, settled in Donetsk, and married a russian woman. His wife reported: "My husband was detained and continues to be illegally held by the military - tankers, from the 5th Brigade. Russell was brutally detained on April 8, 2024 near the Autobase in the Petrovsky district of Donetsk," she wrote. According to some public chats the American Z-blogger was detained by a group of heavily intoxicated Russian military officers who took him for an American spy (because of his accent) spying for NATO and kicked him to death. Russian authorities have not yet issued official comments regarding Bentley’s death.

After that, communication with him was lost. Some Russian war correspondents suggested that after the rape, one of the officers said that it was no longer possible to let the American go, so they decided to kill him. He failed the test of traditional Russian values.....

If he was raped by Russian soldiers i am not surpriced .....traditions...

19 April Update

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov signaled Russia’s intent to seize Kharkiv City in a future significant Russian offensive operation

Ukrainian Air Force Commander Lieutenant General Mykola Oleshchuk announced on April 19 that Ukrainian forces downed a Russian Tu-22M3 strategic bomber that had launched Kh-22 cruise missiles against Ukraine. The Ukrainian Main Military Intelligence Directorate (GUR) stated that Ukrainian forces shot down the Tu-22M3 at a distance of 300 kilometers from Ukraine with the same means that Ukraine used to down two Russian A-50 long-range radar detection aircraft.
