"Ukraine war: Life appears normal in Moscow... but a sinister undercurrent exists as Putin's conflict drags on
Life goes on in Moscow but under the appearance of normality there is a sinister undercurrent, with many reluctant to leave their homes for fear they will be conscripted to fight in a war they do not understand and cannot explain." news.sky.com...

"Many left behind are reluctant to leave their homes afraid Moscow's myriad cameras will pick them up using facial recognition technology. Vladimir Putin's mobilisation has swept up men in wheelchairs, the elderly, even the dead have received call up papers. No one is safe.

Muscovites fear the knock on the door to take their father, son or husband away to training camps for a war they do not understand and still have no convincing explanation for."

How can't you have an opinion on something like that?

And as much as I hate to point it out I've got to say that nearly everything you post on the subject has a pro-Russian/anti-US-NATO-UK slant to it.

That's entirely up to you....

I think it`s possible that Russia do something very extra crazy and dangerous , the thinking there is just so mentally sick that they have the "going full mad" mindset ready ...hopefully that`s not the case, but i seriously doubt their mental health now even more than in February. The talks lately there has gone to next level....

Aleksandr Dugin continues to promote his “Holy War”.

Erm I don't think so, just the post above yours above is certianly not pro Ruskie

Opinion? I said it many times, an inter Slav mafia war which leaves me stunned, concerned, interested, amazed that it's going on even though many predicted exactly what would happen. There we go FB

He sounds just like American Right-Wing Fundamentalist/Dominionists.

I'm not "seeing" next generation agreeing with any of them.

Spot on Kenzo
Russia is too far into Ukraine now and there is no way it will want to be pushed out of the four new republics. That Dugin character he's got a settlement to make with the west, just hope they don't go all in and star WW3 with the nukes option. Keep your tins of fish, bottled water well stocked mate, you might need them sooner than we can imagine

The support Russia get from American right is stunning, specially now as more and more of Russian thinking / ideology comes to light.

Trump's yearslong crusade against Ukraine has finally come home to roost as Republicans call for abandoning Kyiv

YES (the "my porch" brigade)

And Russia loves Hannity and Carlson.

Here's a good one: Former televangelist Pat Robertson came out of retirement to comment on Russia's invasion of Ukraine, saying Russian President Vladimir Putin is being "compelled by God" to bring about the "End of Times," prophesied in the Bible.

Dugin character needs to take some meds asap, He`s been unforgiving against West for God knows how long...

If he know some history....when Hitler attack Russia, it was the west who supported Russia , and also helped to build factorys from Western design.

That's why I said 'most'.

I have no intention of trawling through all your posts for examples, I really can't be arsed - a worrying trait that I am developing - but its definitely the impression I have got over the last few months.

As I said; that's entirely up to you.

It may be a dispute between Slav's but that doesn't mean we should just ignore it and turn a blind eye to blatant Russian expansionism....and the FACT that one side is trying to hold the world to ransom by threatening to fling a load of nuclear weapons about sort of sets me against them.

There are some things and times in life when fencesitting just doesn't seem appropriate to me.

But each to their own.🍺

Check, this whole thing has too much of the 1930s blueprint to simply proclaim it is none of our business.

Putin needs to be stopped NOW and not later.

To this point, Ukraine is doing a credible job with equipment provided by other countries.

It is not Ukraine or the West who need to back down at this point. That is something elements of the Russian state have to do, Putin or no Putin. They started this war and they can end it -very quickly- by pulling their army back across the true international border. All other suggestions are errant nonsense.

Cheers

I really don't understand why so many of your compatriots on here are vehemently anti lefties and commies but hate their own country, NATO and the West so much that they root for a former KGB Dictator bent on crushing the life out of Ukraine.

Can you shed any light on this for the benefit of us here in the UK?

I'd get some popcorn in but I hate the stuff cos it's like eating bits of polystyrene, so will make do with a packet of Pork Scratchings.

I agree entirely.
I'm amazed that people don't recognise the echoes from '39 and the build up to it.

In all honesty unless something dramatic happens in Moscow I can't see Russia agreeing to a full withdrawal, at present.

But they can at least put a stop to the killing by calling an immediate ceasefire and agreeing to open and frank peace negotiations without preconditions.
Both sides would have to go into such talks with the stark realisation that compromise and concessions are more than likely necessary if a lasting peace is to be agreed.
Without the complete defeat of an opponent that is just a harsh reality.....and that would be a bitter pill for Ukraine to swallow given that they are fighting for their homeland.
Yet it would also be a massive blow to Putin's ego considering no matter how he tries to spin it his initial goal was total and utter victory and bringing the whole of Ukraine under Russian rule again.

I think Crimea is a lost cause now and possibly even parts of Luhansk and Donetsk.
I could easily be wrong, I'm no diplomat or military expert or anything of the sort.

There is nothing more I would like to see than those brave and proud Ukrainians who are fighting for their country push the Russian invaders right back to the previously established borders but realistically....?

I think the time is approaching when there'll be a military stalemate and that would just be a constant drain on resources and more importantly people.

Or that could easily all be bollocks and Putin decides to up the ante and escalate even further......

He isnt entirely wrong though... while not having an opinion isnt a good thing, there is the issue that for the most part all of our opinions mean jake all to the conflict, and have no actual impact on its outcome... that does put a big dampener on a persons actions towards all this... and we're really only fighting an impotent, fingers in ears, battle against each others camps on social media.

Hell, while im anti war and pro Ukraine and can get heated in RL about it, I know full well any opinion this NZer on the far side of the world has will make # all difference to the outcome in reality. It does make you kinda shrug and feel like saying 'call me when its over'.

(although that apathy is one of the things ruZZias banking on and has caused so much issues with ruZZia in the past, which is why the 'West' has to actively fight against that this time and Zelensky has artfully kept the conflict in the Western eyes as he needs too).

Because he's not the vile 'them'... he's white, rightwing, he's 'christian', he's anti woke, anti gay, a 'tough guy', speaks his mind, 'stands up to the world', rides bears bare back and shirtless, The 'corrupt, elites' world dislikes him so ergo he must be right... so he has to be a good guy, even if he's also elite and anti everything the right supposedly stands for on paper.

Theres a reason Trump somehow made it into a term of office (hes an 'anyone but them' option)... you also have to remember that a large portion of the right yearn for a country like what putler has, not because of what it can do for others, but for what it means they can do for themselves.

And just to clarify, im not saying thats what the right is, but it is what the right has become over the decades.

I'm under no illusions about how irrelevant I am and my opinions are.

I like ufo, he's a good guy.
I just don't agree with him on a lot of things relating to the invasion of Ukraine and at the end of the day, even though its completely irrelevant and will have zero affect on anything, the reason most of us come here is because we like to discuss and debate things.

As I said; I like talking to ufo.

Again with the nuke threats... although funny he hopes they actually have the nukes and that the nukes give him reassurance.

They still wont blame the guy at the top, always the middles fault. They never seem to say how it should be fixed either, all they ever say is 'who is to be punished for this?', they dont want to fix it since that would expose to many thieves in high places but if a few people that isnt them get shot, problem solved... til next time.

'Oh lordy' indeed.

Watched this last night, and from all the stuff ive seen of ruZZian state propaganda since this war started, she's spot on in her explanation.
