Some old tanks and some green troops (maybe even throw in a few incompetent generals)?

Yup, that's all it was, 'some' tanks and soldiers. Don't need those to win a war.

I don't see it. Europeans (NATO countries even) are still buying their fuel from Russia (except Poland and Bulgaria Ahhhhhahahahahaha). Now ... that ... is embarrassing.

Fuel sales aren't going to help them get the required restricted components they need for critical industries, it won't reverse the brain drain and it won't make investment return.

Is February well before it happened? It happened in February.

Good moves though.

Early Feb. I had divested a bit last year due to the Afghan War winding down but the handwriting was on the wall for this and the fact that American defense contractors would be having to ramp up arms production.

Serious question:

Since the start of this, the Biden administration and the media, both left and right-leaning media, have all been saying the Russians intended to showcase how badass their military was and launch a blitzkrieg-like offensive that would put the U.S.'s "Shock and Awe" campaign of Iraq--which lasted weeks--to shame by completely overrunning the country in 48 hours.

Has anyone seen any Russians claim that was their plan?

Nope. Not once. They are on a liberation mission just like we did in Afghanistan...and Iraq....and Libya...and Vietnam....

At some point he will die of "natural" causes, and the war in Ukraine will end quickly. This will cost Russia a good deal in so many ways, and people here are like, Russia is fine, nothing to see there...

I was thinking his autocratic ass would be around for awhile longer but then I saw some of the recent videos and there's an obvious health issue which appears to be Parkinson's. Not sure how long they will let Shaky stay in power with him barely able to control his tremors in public since a huge part of his image is that public macho stud nonsense he likes to play.

Kind of hard to ride a bear shirtless when you can't hold the reins.

That VX in his orange juice does not help either...

I just have to reiterate, because almost all of the official analysis of what's happening and what it means for Russia is based on this assumption. But where did it really come from? Because if this is wrong, any analysis based on it is compromised.

As a rule in a rumble the dangerous one isn't the one who doesn't care what happens to you it's the one who doesn't care what happens to themself.

So my question is how far do the button pushers in the Kremlin care what happens to Russia?

After all, they'd be pretty much out of a job if the country was nuked - what would they have left to defend?

Perhaps you didn't see lavrov declare today that russia intends to keep any Ukrainian territory that it's able to occupy for russia, and that this was always their plan?

Time to give up on the fake russian propaganda already, like lavrov and putin just did.

Russia Finland Switzerland has plenty of nuke shelters, all fully stocked to wait out the radiation to evaporate. When was the last time the government told you what to do in this type of emergency? The government and the top officials will just disappear before the strike, these are the people that caused it. they will also emerge mostly unscathed to control what is left. That's in Russia as well. Job done. Who then is the real enemy?

Glad I'm not the only one who knows this.

The government and the top officials also don't want anyone tripping them up as they're high-tailin' it outta there with their families.

The bunkers'll be easy enough to find for survivors. Chlorine gas, napalm ... hell, nasty rancid sewage is enough ... just dump it in the air intakes and give 'em what for.

Or just a canister of pepper spray nonchalantly dispatched into one of the intakes.

It's interesting how nobody has dared touch this and the thread straight up died.

Well there was this a few years ago...

www.euractiv.com...

www.telegraph.co.uk...

Although after it became public, damage control was in put into affect...

www.reuters.com...

www.theguardian.com...

"The problem is not this, but that if I want I'll take Kiev in two weeks," Putin said, according to La Repubblica.

The Kremlin did not deny Putin had spoken of taking Kiev, but instead complained about the leak of the Barroso remarks.

bolding mine

So take it for what it is but I have to ask...

If Kiev wasn't part of the plan, why spend so many men and so much materiel and take so many casualties to attack Kiev from two directions for over a month?

What other major invasion of a country can you think of that the taking of the capital was not part of the plan?

Perhaps you did not get the sarcasm.

This entire thing is only going to spiral farther. China will make a move and then with a nuclear Iran I am sure Israel with act.

We were expecting to listen in on a bonanza of new awesome Russian equipment in action. What we got was outdated equipment and unencoded transmissions in plain FM transmissions. A tin can and string setup would have been harder to hack communication setup.

Russia didn’t think it would be this complex and coordinated of a resistance, they under planned. Similar as that. Now, do they crank up the warfare with more tech, more experienced troops or other means. The threat of nukes however limited does lean towards “the other” category. Skipping through Ukraine to Moldavia is an odd tactic as they could be caught between resistances rather than “liberating local supporters.”

I appreciate someone actually attempting to address this.

I don't see how that's the same thing though. I mean the U.S. could have defeated Vietnam in a few weeks as well, if we went balls out with every weapon at our disposal, including nuclear weapons.

Claiming what you can do is a little different than "this is our plan."

As for what his actual plan is, I couldn't say. I did a thread speculating about that. Of course I have zero proof, it was pure speculation.

I'm just asking if there is any proof supporting the media claiming that Russia's plan was to win in 2 days. That also appears to be pure speculation.
