Students in the eastern city of Kharkiv are learning about bulletproof vests and explosives as well as practising evacuation drills and first aid as Ukraine prepares for a possible big assault by the Russian military.
The city, which is under Ukrainian government control, is home to tank, aircraft and tractor factories and lies 40 km (25 miles) from the Russian border.
It has been identified by President Volodymyr Zelenskiy as a possible Russian target, though his spokesman said he was speaking hypothetically.
Russia has denied it plans to invade Ukraine but the authorities are taking no chances, especially with the stakes now higher after Moscow's recognition of two separatist regions in the former Soviet republic's east.
Poland’s government approved a new defense bill that would vastly increase the country’s military spending and the size of its army, in what officials described as a direct response to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
The bill, tentatively slated to reach parliament next week, would allow the funding and legal instruments necessary for “the radical expansion of our army,” said Poland Deputy Prime Minister Jarosław Kaczyński, who is also the head of the ruling Law and Justice party.
Mr. Kaczyński first introduced the proposal last year, saying Poland should roughly double its troop levels to as much as 300,000 personnel, which would make it one of the largest armies in Europe. Ukraine’s crisis has accelerated those plans, officials said.
“Poland must have an armed force adequate to the situation it is in today,” he told reporters. “That means forces that will be able to counter an attack and that will be strong enough to prevent that attack from happening.”
Poland isn’t the only Russia-bordering member of the European Union looking to quickly ramp up the size of its army in response to the Ukraine crisis. Latvia is considering three weeks of mandatory military service for young adults, an opening that it hopes would increase recruitment, said the country's defense minister, Artis Pabriks.
The network and Joe Biden really want a U.S. involved war against Russia, it seems.

‘Full-scale invasion’ of Ukraine ‘likely’ in 24 hours: Australia begins Russia sanctions
Prime Minister Scott Morrison has revealed a “full-scale invasion” of Ukraine is likely within 24 hours as he announces a burst of sanctions in response to Russia’s aggression.
“The invasion of Ukraine has already effectively begun,” Mr Morrison said on Wednesday.
“This invasion is unjustified, it’s unwarranted, it’s unprovoked and it’s unacceptable.
“Russia is at peak readiness to now complete a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, and that is likely to occur within the next 24 hours.”
Mr Morrison said Australia always stands up to “bullies” and will be doing so with Russia alongside like-minded partners – revealing sanctions on Russian individuals along with Donetsk and Luhansk.
“The Australian government will immediately begin placing sanctions on Russian individuals in response to the aggression by Russia against Ukraine,” he said.
“We will also amend the Autonomous Sanctions Regulation of 2011 to extend existing sanctions that apply to Crimea and Sevastopol to the regions of Donetsk and Luhansk.
“These two actions will align us with key partners – the United States and the United Kingdom.”
