I thought this would be a good question because it would think about ourselves and not all the BS we are surrounded by daily.

For me, I've downsized my life style due to a few factors that I really had no control over, but with negative I had to look at the positive approach of making things better or at least seeing the bright side of life in its changing living environment.

Once outdoors ( safe environment that is ), nature is like a painters canvas with so many joyful colors of expressions. Each color is like a new movement in our surrounding as we wonder among the nature that someone created for us to survive in. Not much can be seen in the large cities unless redevelopment is taking place, but in nature it always a changing path and moving of life. Lets enjoy life to its fullest.

I work too much, eat too much meat and don't exercise enough as i'm too tired after working and eating steak.

Otherwise i spend time with my kids, go camping, fishing, hiking and generally enjoy my life.

Oh, once i retire if the apocalypse hasn't arrived i'd like a new dog. Lost my mutt last year and hurt me more than losing the wife (divorce).

Well, as a retiree I think having some kind of hobby of enjoyment keeps us both physically and mentally active.
Now if I can only figure out how to play an F#7#9 chord on the guitar, I'll be happy today.

I'm very happy with my life right now.
I've said this many times here on ats , that my life has been getting better and better over the last 15 years.
These years have been the best of my life.

As we get older, life does get better. At least I think so. We struggle when young, but seems like at a certain age we begin to think about playing again like a grown child.

Someone once told me to behave as if every day was my last day on earth.

So I lie around in bed, drifting in and out of consciousness.....

Just kidding.
I suppose I could complain about not having much money or doing exciting things all the time but no one would really care so I read instead.
Wanting things makes people unhappy.

......although, there's always that one record that I've been after for a while but can't seem to find. ....

Food, water and shelter should probably be factored into that.

I hear you like food more than most things.

I'm closer to 50 then I am 40 and also year 30 into my career of choice which is Telecom and Collaboration.

On an hourly, daily and weekly basis I am having more fun , finding myself fulfilled and enjoying more then I think I have had at any other point in my life.

I am also in the video game industry which is one of the few that didn't get hammered by COVID but because of that career I haven't had to live check to check in years. Still where I work def saw major upticks in concurrency across all games which also was a good thing financially.

I wouldn't change any element of my equation right now for a different variable because things are damn good.

That doesn't mean that bad things haven't , don't or won't happen . That doesn't mean some days aren't tougher than others . That sometimes everything is annoying or that the last thing I want to do is get up and find a schedule of 9 meetings in a row. It doesn't mean that things don't hurt or confuse or annoy. Overall though my biggest complaints of the last 3 years would be the following and all things being equal I can't complain about anything:

1. Watching friends struggle during COVID
2. How disappointing the last 2 episodes of Supernatural were after 15 seasons.

I'm happy for the most part, but it didn't really turn out like I dreamed. I had hoped that when I became an adult, I'd get to spend all my time driving around in a van, solving mysteries with my friends.

No. Not really. I liked the Before quite actually.

Anyway. I didn’t feed beagle puppies to sandflies after having removed their ability to Yelp for help so….

Your one of those work till your dead guys too huh?
It’s quite common to see that in the mining field.

3/4 of our work force are of guys over 55 years old.
Hell we have one guy 72 years old on site that works in the wash bay.
A friend of mine was told at age 55 he could retire down in Florida and live life to the fullest and still leave a handsome sum to his kids.
He was home for a month, for the first time since he was 16 years old, since starting a career in mining.
He said he was ready to kill his wife so had to come back to work to get away from her hahah

ETA:

For the OP - I love my career. I have a very unique job that was once my expensive hobby.
Now I get to play with the latest toys (drones) and conduct photogrammetry surveys.
I only have to work half the year and Get a very nice salary.
I’ve been finding myself enjoying being at work more than I do at home.
If it wasn’t for my kids, then I probably would just live at the mine site haha.

I try to be the best version of me, that I can be, for them.

I’m very happy with my everyday lifestyle.
The most important thing my wife and I have done is cut out other peoples drama.
Best damn thing ever.
It’s amazing how peaceful life can be when you are not involved in other people #.

Oh, your husband, who you stole from another woman, cheated on you? Bummer
Oh, your wife ,yet again, is ruining your finances? Bummer
Etc etc etc

Nope… don’t want to hear it.
