Translation: Northern delegates (later to become known as lincoln republicans) argued slaves count as zero people.

We see this same debate taking place today with illegal immigrants. Democrats again want to count their slaves to apportion themselves power. Republicans don't want to allow them to count their slaves so they can keep their power and get rid of the modern slave trade.

LOL, what a twisted revisionist take on this.

The reason the north only wanted free people counted is that free people can vote and slaves cannot and it would give the south a disproportionate amount of representation due to counting slaves as part of the population when they were no where near being part of the population, they were property. Also, as I said earlier, they should have not made the compromise.

Did Piclnckney and Wilson also oppose mixed race schooling , like joe biDen did?

And like joe does, did they think blacks were somehow ‘less capable’ than whites?

Back to the topic. I agree with reparations for the Tulsa victims. That was more than just dEmocrat-fueled racism like the KKK routinely practiced.

It's not twisted. It's the factual take. Your take here is the twisted one. Free people could not vote at the time of the founding (when the 3/5ths compromise took place). You had to also own land, be male, and in some places be christian. Yet women, non-christians, and non-land owners were free. So they counted towards representation and apportionment.

Even if you ascribe the noblest of intentions to the northern states, they were still arguing that slaves deserve no representation and no apportionment. The republicans make the same argument today about illegal immigration. Conversely the democrats today make the same arguments that the southern states were making.

My point is that the parties are making the same stands today that they were 150 years ago. They never swapped ideologies. The party swap is a myth that just won't die. It's not an argument about geography. It's not an argument about progressive or conservative labels. It's an argument about ideals and republicans ideals on these issues (freedom, slavery, apportionment, etc) are the same today as they were leading up to the civil war.

The best part is when you start to understand history this way, the parallels between trump's lead issue on illegal immigration and lincoln's lead issue on slavery start to really paint two pictures that are eerily similar and the removal of trump by the democrats looks an awful lot like what they tried to do with lincoln (illegal voting and all) before they finally resorted to killing him (weird how is detractors were also communists).

If you ask a democrat today your answer will be: We should be allowed representation based on the number of people we have in our state, illegal or not.

If you asked a democrat back then the answer was: We should be allowed representation based on the number of people we have in our state, slave or not.

If you asked a republican today your answer will be: There should be no illegals so you should have no representation for allowing them in your state.
