The Picts are often said to have practised matrilineal kingship succession on the basis of Irish legends and a statement in Bede's history. The kings of the Picts when Bede was writing were Bridei and Nechtan, sons of Der Ilei, who indeed claimed the throne through their mother Der Ilei, daughter of an earlier Pictish king.

In part of the Middle East, pregnant women were considered most vulnerable to the evasion of "neighbors". I am not sure why, but the most vulnerable of the pregnant population, was the woman pregnant with a baby boy.
It was thought that a neighbor clones the boy and creates an identical twin spirit which is of opposite gender, a girl. That girl is called "Areene" or "Kareene". That Areene is considered malicious and is thought to want to take the place of the boy. The danger was heightened during the third trimester.
I had a pregnant female relative who would stay up all night when the areene's activity was high. I would wake up at night to get water or something, I would see her sitting up in the dark, eyes wide open and sweat on her face. As though she had been fighting the areene. She would describe the areene climbing on curtains and jumping through the house. At some point, the areene leaves the mother and her dreams alone.
A pious Muslim woman would pray to resolve the issue. Some women would melt lead in boiling water and read the outcome to send the areene away. If a Muslim woman melted the lead in boiling water, she had to pray for forgiveness for 40 days, as it was considered some form of magic and frowned upon.
Have you ever seen what the Koran says about the Jinn?
I have it from good authority that I can say the word "Jinn".
A good place to start can be "Sourat El-Jinn" which is the scripture specifically concerning the Jinn.
You may already know everything here.
But if not, it is a good place to start. People's knowledge and lore expand beyond what the Koran says.
The jinn apologize for their past blasphemy and criticize mankind for either neglecting them or encouraging their disbelief. (underline mine)

I got through to my friends and got the step-by-step remedy they use in my hometown for areene. I gotta admit, it is a little weird, for someone like me, very engrossed in this world, I am unable to see how on earth these things would come together for the desired effect.
The sulfur/yarrow/beeswax remedy you mention is interesting, I'd like to give that a shot and see what happens. Yarrow is not native to my area, but I see I can get it from botanical shops in dried form. Do you think that would work as well?
