Prince Philip, Queen Elizabeth II's husband, has died aged 99, Buckingham Palace has announced.

The prince married Princess Elizabeth in 1947, five years before she became Queen, and was the longest-serving royal consort in British history.

The couple had four children, eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Prince Phillip Duke of Edinburgh dead at 99

Sad day for royalists and the royal family.

R.I.P Phillip.

A deadly variant of Covid-19 got him?

Do you have to? He was two months off his hundredth birthday.

Would he have been the first Royalty (or whatever you call them) to make age 100?

Princess Alice was 102 and the Queen Mother was 101.

Superior Universal Healthcare and clean living paid off apparently. Thanks for the info!

Clean living? The Queen Mother was very fond of Gin, so, not really, no.

Gin and Vodka destroy bad bacteria.

Princess Alice was forcibly confined to a Sanitarium so not so privileged. You might want to actually do some research before posting.

I have no particular fondness for the royal family; I’m a republican, small ‘r’.

But I don’t wish ill against them. Philip was a character. I liked him because he was un-PC and definitely not one of these new fanged radical lefties, he had that old grandparent politically incorrect sense of humour. Made me chuckle.

And it sucks to lose a family member, especially for the queen who has been with him for so long.

Yes. I'm not particularly a Royalist - I think they need a bit of pruning as there are too many "hangers on" but the Duke was a character and has my respect.

I wonder what this sad loss after all those years will do to the Queen? A bit worrying.

Yes agreed. And yes, I wonder, without sounding doom and gloom, how long the queen has? Often for people who have lived their entire lives together, or reached such old ages together, the loss of a partner can often lead to their passing out of grief.

Happened to my mum’s parents; when my grandmother passed away at 97, my grandfather passed about 4 months later and he was pretty healthy. But you could see the light in his eyes fade after she was gone, like there wasn’t much point hanging on.

Sad, but true..

That's pretty sad, to think so little of the dead. shame...

Who cares . If they’re dead and are bad people then that’s what it is . When Reagan died people were all up in arms but he was as evil as it gets . Not sure about this guy . Did he know J saville and did nothing about it ?? If so then I hope he lives a horrible afterlife . Just because someone is dead means nothing . If they were evil then hopefully it’s time to pay the piper .
They’re called opinions , people have them and will continue to . Maybe listen to some instead of controlling the narrative and perhaps you can dig your head out of the sand

It did cross my mind - But I thought under the circumstances I would

use a bit of decorum.
