By suggesting white people would insult black people is applying a "personal quality" to all whites in general.

You just said that doing that is racist.

Heaven forbid! It is strange, but it isn't going to hurt anyone.

Just press the "No Thanks" button haha.

Or... use the tool to find black-owned businesses to avoid them if you would rather do that.

I did not suggest that, as I am sure you are well aware.

Unless you can come up with a reasonably intelligent response this time, our conversation ends here. Thank you for playing.

Also, if one was Black, one might wish to avoid the potential for being patronized, feared or insulted by a white person.

Why else would white people in general be this sort of threat to black people if they didn't have the attribute or qualities to make them so?

Come on don't quit now... you're so close to having absolutely NO legs to stand on in this argument!!!

This is nothing to the point, but it does reveal a great deal about you.

Right. So everyone's a racist...except for the guy who sees racism everywhere.

Not in general.

Are you familiar with the meaning of the word ‘potential’? It suggests possibility. It does not declare certainty, or even high probability.

Are you going to pretend that it is unheard-of for White people to publicly insult Black people? Why is there a word that white Americans are socially forbidden to utter? To whom does that word apply?

Come on don't quit now... you're so close to having absolutely NO legs to stand on in this argument!!!

You think you hold the upper hand in this argument? Curious.

Oh most definitely.

You've exposed yourself to be a contradictory hypocrite who runs away when his own logic is used against him.

"Thanks for playing."

But I’m still here. And you have demonstrated not a single contradiction or logical flaw in anything I have said.

Thanks for playing.

It says "identify as" .... so in reality they leave the door open to what you "think" you are, and I guess you could be like this guy...

But honestly it seems as though google is opting to use reverse sexism and racism as a means to decide what businesses you use.

I just wonder does the attribute also carry weight in SEO e.g. does a black, female, military vet owned business get higher placement on search.

I was just browsing google maps, I'm on a Randall Carlson and Graham Hancock kick right now.

Anyway, as I make the map full screen, I'm presented with a little pop up describing new options that I've never seen.

I understand the T&C about posts containing enough content. But I'm gonna keep this one short, I think the content will spark more than enough debate. Let the picture do the talking. Not trying to be cute or anything, I just honestly don't know how I feel about it. It doesn't offend me, but I can't help but be weirded out by it. I mean... theres implications right?

Take a gander at this screen shot and see if you find anything fishy.

Here's a Cnet Article about it... I honestly haven't read it.. I can't seem to form my OWN opinion about it yet... just thought I'd flesh out the post...

I kept this out of the mudpit... that could prove folly. Needless to say I've been derailed from a rather sublime track of ancient floods and alternative archaeology. Damn you google.

now what is it about black businesses that Google wants to tell me? I know it’s important they singled them out like that?

Where they are located.

Perhaps Black people have more reason to be concerned about this than White ones. Pogroms often commence with a list of names and addresses.

If you born after a time when those policies and cultural artifacts were widespread, then you personally weren't held down.

I did an continue to do fantastic things as a woman and never once felt like my sex held me back. There were no insidious men keeping me down. My own father was my biggest cheerleader as was my grandfather, my great uncle who worked not so subtly to recruit me to college, most of my favorite teachers, and all of my favorite coaches have been men. My husband continues to be at my back to this day.

How is this possible? Why haven't any them held me back, told me I can't, worked to repress me? Made me a victim?

**EDIT**

This isn't taking a single thing away from the women in my life either. My grandmother was a fantastically strong woman from a time when women really were expected to keep their place, but she stepped outside the bounds even then and did what she was determined to do and her family supported her at it, up to and including by her a man's suit and altering it so she could join the debate team in high school.

She went on to be a tough as nails farm wife during WWII when grandpa was deployed and a rough and tumble Girl Scout leader who taught her girls more than home crafts - they went Scouting a lot like the boys. Grandma was a formidable lady and good example for me. None of the other women in my family are pushovers either.

Huh, is this anything like doxxing conservatives and gun owners?

Possibly. Has anyone begun shooting and lynching conservatives and gun owners? Does the country have a longstanding, well-established record of such behaviour?

I seem to recall an outbreak in 1861-65, but it sort of died down after that.

Now, we mustn't let whataboutism deflect us from the thread topic, must we?

If you born after...

A list of all the special privileges you have enjoyed doesn't exactly forward your argument. But it may help you answer your own question.

Hmmm, special privileges? Hardly, not if I wasn't the only girl at it, and I wasn't. I can recall one high school class where I was the only girl, and none where girls were barred from taking them but I got special permission.

So if any girl could do it, then there is no "special privilege" involved. The only thing "special" in this instance would be that I did where others chose not to. And if someone chooses not to, then they aren't being held back by anyone other than themselves.

I thought they were talking about underground illegal business, not POC.

This world is twisted.

I go to a business based on what they have in terms of quality and service.

I don't care if the owner is plaid or not.

Almost seems like they put it out there hoping some fanatic will use it as a victim finder....

Basically what most of us are saying. We go where we get what we want to good standard, and we don't care who provides that. They'll get our business.

That's why we think this feature is creepy. Why should it suddenly be a thing to care more about who is providing the service than whether or not the service is what you want to the standard you desire which is kind of what the Google feature implies?
