Ha ha ha ha ha.

I think its #ing hilarious.

All those smug southerners who didn't give a toss about the North more or less being totally locked up under Tier 3 regulations even though numbers were falling.

Ha ha ha ha ha.
Now you have a brand new Tier 4 all for yourselves.

Seriously though; I am now beginning to lose my patience with all this bollocks.
At some point we are going to have to start getting back to something at least resembling 'normal'.
Sure, take sensible precautions at the same time but this just can not continue.

I don't think the government and their ever increasing contradictions and constant U-turns are doing anyone any favours and are certainly confusing and frustrating people.

I've got plans for a trip into North Yorkshire next week....just to do some last minute Christmas shopping but I've heard they do some wonderful Scotch Eggs and it'd be quite rude not to partake!

I'm a smug-free northern-born lad living down south in posh 'ole Surrey, so I see both sides, mate!

Tell me about it!

Something's gonna give very soon, the effective 'cancellation' of Christmas for Tier 4-ers could be that straw on the now fully-exhausted camel's back.

Here we go again. Absolute joke. At the eleventh hour families looking forward to spending time together will have their hopes dashed.

Remember; all for a virus so deadly you need a test to confirm you have it.

A virus that 99.5% of the world will not be bothered by.

At this point I have no words

You find it funny?

I have family in Kent and London.

We are not laughing. The new variant is 70% more transmissible. New data fresh out. Infection is skyrocketing. In London and SE England.

I hope you folk wake up and take this seriously.

For all his faults, and he has many, this is the last thing Boris wanted to have to do.

Please stop with the denial and the sneering.

Viruses mutate. The more it spreads the more chance of it mutating. God forbid it should happen to the US. Please take this seriously.

I couldn't agree more OC. Too many out there not taking this seriously. All these anti mask/lockdown protests and people wonder why it's not going away?

Boris Johnson announcing U Turn on Xmas restrictions shortly

The real reason for his U-turn is because he can't fit down a chimney. Thus, in a fit of petulance, he has decided that if he can't get into other's homes, neither can people wanting to visit with loved ones. If you're not going to comply with the rulings, makes sure you keep an eye out for little-Hitler jobsworths dressed as Santa.

Maybe Boris Johnson should lock himself away instead of the country. I personally see much benefit to that arrangement. What a fraud.

At least his approval rating has dropped from 66% to 34% in under a year. Might not be PM for much longer, especially given the brewing disatisfaction from the tory backbenchers.

He did. When he had Covid.

Indeed. Shame he came out really.

I preferred it when he was in the fridge...

Umm. Thank you for that.

Do you actually have a cogent and sensible point to make?

This seems like a good time to drop this reminder....

www.merckmanuals.com...

Common colds are among the most common illnesses. Many different viruses (rhinoviruses, adenoviruses, coronaviruses

Covid is literally the common cold.

The common cold is a Coronavirus, Covid-19 is a novel strain of Coronavirus.

Thanks, but no thanks. Are you completely mad?

Are you?

There are literally hundreds of trillions of viruses living in each and every one of us every hour of every day.

Fear a virus with a 0.05% CFR (or less)?

No thanks. What I fear are those who would give up one iota of essential liberty for a small dose of fake security.

You want to huddle in fear in your basement? Knock yourself out.

LEAVE THE REST OF US ALONE.

Sadly, the only guaranteed way of reducing the infection rate on a longer term basis has been demonstrated by countries who used genuinely draconian measures. The Aussie authorities, for example, clamped down extremely hard on freedoms during the late Summer/Autumn (at least OUR version of the seasons), extending to armed guards outside many apartment blocks.

Anyway, the Aussies are enjoying a relatively Covid-free Summer heatwave now!
Lucky bastids!

It'll be a cold day in Hell before we see armed guards in the UK, of course; it would go against every British instinct, ie 100% unconscionable, no matter what the benefits would be.

So, we'll just plod onwards... lockdown after lockdown... until herd immunity is achieved - the end goal for all pandemics, whether via vaccine or naturally.

But WHEN?

Not in my basement.

Lots of people dead here.

Will leave you alone.

One day you will wake up.

Please stop shouting in capitals.

Please also educate yourself.

I know that most Southerners aren't anything like the stereotypical brash, arrogant Cockney....but many are.
And I've got to say when most of The North went into Tier 3 it was met with either casual disdain and/or ridicule from many Londoners etc.
Many up here see this as some sort of karma.

Most of it is frustration with me and when I sit down and think about it logically I do sort of understand the need for these measures.

I think we should have gone into the original lockdown earlier and a lot harder.....no-one allowed in or out apart from essentials.

Now?
If I'm being honest I don't know what is for the best.
I've lost friends and family to this bloody virus.

But it's starting to box my head in.

The complete lack of any sort of long term, thought out, joined up government strategy and plan to deal with this pandemic and its effects hasn't helped anything or anyone.
There is such a lack of direction and leadership and the government seems to lurch from one knee jerk reaction to another whilst contradicting itself on an almost daily basis.

Initially I had a bit of sympathy for Boris - no-one had ever had to deal with anything like this so there were no precedents to learn from.
But now I have nothing but contempt for him - I always have really but I was prepared to give him a chance on this.
I honestly never thought he could be so incompetent and lacking in basic management and leadership skills and abilities.

This approach can not continue.
Its literally killing this country.
Businesses are closing at an unprecedented rate and the mental health of the nation is at breaking point.

But we do we just allow this virus to run its course and allow potentially tens of thousands of people to die?
Surely we can't do that.

But we must let people have a bit more 'normality' and trust that they act responsibly.
Clampdown hard - and I mean very #ing hard - on those who don't follow guidelines but these draconian measures simply can not continue.

How so? All the common symptoms seem to be the symptoms of the common cold, the people severely affected by it are the same people severely affected by the common cold, the complications it causes in the vulnerable are the same as the common cold, the deaths are concentrated around the same demographic as deaths from the common cold, it spreads pretty much the same as the common cold, in what way is it not other than the name?

What actually differentiates covid-19 from the common cold? Every symptom and complication described from covid is something that can be caused by the common cold. What makes covid different other than the name?

I've never ever heard of anyone dying from a common cold, I personally know several people who have died of this coronavirus.

I'd say that's a pretty big #ing difference!
