Last month, New York City Health officials told people that coronavirus was nothing to be concerned about. To go ahead and attend their festivals.

UPDATE:

So, my friend's uncle who was expected to pass away last evening from the virus has not died. They gave him some meds that he is responding to positively and he is being transferred to a bigger Boston hospital I guess.

This is very good news because we were told he was a goner last evening.

What meds? This inside knowledge is invaluable. Keep us posted!

If I knew I would tell you. My friend is a bit blase about the whole thing and despite my repeated attempts to find out more info he just either says, "yah, he is too far gone" or now it's changed to, "yah, he got some meds that he responded okay to and looks like he may pull through".

I repeated have asked him about the hydroxychloride/azithromax treatment combo but he is like talking to a wall. He doesn't "want to pry" etc...

But I bet that was the drug combo used since he was apparently brought back from the brink of death.

A friend of mine has just received an email from the NHS informing her she's one of the 1.5 million at risk. She's 39.

Also, Canada had more than 1 million citizens and permanent residents return to Canada last week.

How many do you think are self-isolating or have their family members self-isolating?

For those who don’t know Canada well, 1 million is a lot as our population is roughly 37 million.

Oh yeah quick UK update.

My sister (who is really annoying me - she's going nuts at out parents to stay indoors because of health issues - she's had cancer and extensive treatments for it - yet she's out at supermarkets and shops every day) went to a Tesco in Yorkshire today at about 10-30am.

Very few shoppers, lots of full shelves of goods, even the dreaded toilet rolls.

Looks like the panic buying is subsiding, although if BJ announces a lockdown tonight I guess the panic buying will ramp up again.

I'm going to wait and eat what we have for 10 days or so, then go only if necessary.

will run out of coffee - knew I should have bought more.

Am I nuts or is the CFR gone up dramatically? Currently at 13%. I swear it was at 8% or 9% on Friday.

On a good note, we've eclipsed 100K recovered.

www.worldometers.info...

Yeah, but what exactly does "recovered" mean? And permanent disabilities afterwards?

And how many of those are permanently recovered? Meaning they won't develop symptoms again nor become infectious again? I think this is the "other shoe" that some people are holding their breath waiting to hear.

In the Midlands UK, very quiet in the local area most cars are parked on driveways and barely anyone around. It’s the first day of school closures too but so far I’ve not seen any kids around which is good. A lot of shops are now closed and more being announced throughout the day, Costa, Subway and Greggs just today. It’s all feeling very strange, everyone is talking about it and lots are worried, especially about trying to get meds.

We’re now waiting for Boris to address the country at 8.30pm regarding stricter measures... what that means we have no idea quite honestly.

Update from Virginia and Shenzen:

As this week starts, I am seeing a significant change here. Understand, my business circle has always been heavy on work from home, and Wife has always worked at least 50% from home. Last week was more confusion and distraction than work. This week, we are both seeing business resuming. We are both thinking that we better lock down, get our productivity back up, and quit obsessing over CV19 info too much.

Also, I received an exceptionally nice personal note from a Shenzen equipment supplier inquiring how life was on our side, telling me that they are slowly getting back up and running, and offering to "find and ship masks or anything else you need for business". No price or description. I read it as genuine concern for a customer, and an offer to help in any way they could.

Some of our US vendors have also reached out today, indicating they have their ducks in order and are ready to get materials in motion again.

From my perspective, we are adapting. But, I gotta get my butt back in high speed with work.

Michigan goes on lockdown tonight but nothing really any different than we have been doing. Work is confused, our labs need to work to support the company but labs are supposed to shut down because we can't work from home. If we shut the labs all the rats have no work so it pretty much shuts the company and 10,000 people just in the US.

My contacts in Shenzhen also seem to be back and working. I believe it was a couple of weeks after they were supposed to, as there were some that were still not coming in to work, but they seem to be back up and running now.
