I understand how you are feeling and feel bewildered at the actions of people. My mother in law is in an assisted living facility. It is for the elderly who are able to live independently and just need some help. They instituted all kinds of protective measures, no visitors, no outings and trying to maintain a level of protection so that the virus does not take hold and sweep through the place like what happened in Kirkland.
However once they accomplished the check list, just like what you said, everyone was given the green light to head over to the grocery store. shaking head
It was just a check list and now that it is done carry on!

This manufacturer was on national TV two weeks ago talking about how he could provide chloroquine to the entire nation in no-time and even all surrounding countries...

No surprise there would be a heightened interest from multiple parties...

Exactly! I'm just hoping that it is about making ends meet and not about finding faster alternatives to a pneumonic death.

It's hard telling what the actual junkies think though. The last time I did a wellness check on the residents there one of the sick ones didn't understand why the meth was making him sick and itchy. He literally told me meth is a naturally occurring substance in nature and the human brain! Many of them seem to think it is like CBD oil but I haven't the faintest clue where they learned that.

Maybe you are right. My daughter was thinking maybe a write down of a certain amount like $10,000 so everyone has that feel good moment.
She is probably right but this is the time it should just be written off.
Who said the famous words "At this point what difference does it make?"

You’re right and I get it, reading some of the experiences these writers have had in China is insane. It’s also why some of their data could be biased, or at least the intent.

I do like some of the news they have been posting, the cell phone user one, great information and that fits what we should have seen during this first wave.

The truth has to be somewhere in the middle, definitely closer to the epoch times side, just view it carefully.

We’re already censoring information, stuff in the ER does not match the news. During the Spanish flu, only half of possible cases were reported, out of those they reduced it even further by 1/3 - 1/2 by changing nature of illness and cause of death on the treatment and care record.

I think you're right, I've got a feeling we're going to be hit the hardest, which also means we'll be the first to see other potential effects caused by the virus like societal collapse.

This stupid panic buying, is causing supermarkets to take advantage and increase prices of essentials, by simple means of supply and demand.

When there are going to be a lot of people stretched by the circumstances, increased prices are the last thing people need. Just adds another potential flashpoint, which we don't need at the moment.

North West England. I have around 1 month worth of food set aside from my regular food shopping. It is making me uneasy that although this is more than a lot of people have, it still isn't enough. This weekend has been the first chance I've had to really sit down and go through my final preparations, and I had decided I can afford to try get hold of a small/medium dedicated freezer to fill with another bunch of backup food. However, seems that every other person in my area has already had that idea too. All of the appliance companies nationally and in my local area, who supply freezers and are still delivering, are seemingly out of stock. Some of them are projecting they will have more in stock by May or June, some seem to have just given up and say "until further notice." Testing times indeed. Of course, some of these freezers are available on eBay for several times their market price...

Canada is trying to repatriate many of its citizens or permanent residents.

Incoming travellers have to self-isolate for 14 days. Yet, in this article we see a wife being picked up by her husband at the airport as she arrives. He is wearing gloves. He handed her flowers. They are walking shoulder to shoulder but will,

and the two will try to keep their distance from each other — as hard as that may be after spending months apart.

They will share a car ride home (he came to pick her up) and have already been in close contact.

The other picture in the article shows a tight hug and the incoming traveller greets his loved one.

Will those folks they are living with also self-isolate? We know that people aren’t, whether they are the ones who are supposed to as they are incoming travellers or those who they live with who didn’t travel.

Canada is trying the stern warning approach for people are supposed to be self-isolating, stating that continued failure to do so could "put our civil liberties in jeopardy."

Our Health Minister warned:

"It makes governments have to look at more and more stringent measures to actually contain people in their own homes," Hajdu said during a news conference attended by other cabinet ministers. "Our freedoms around the measures that we're taking right now depend on people taking them seriously."
.

In Quebec, a woman was arrested for going on a walk when she was supposed to be self-isolating.

Also, 13 cases of COVID-19 linked to a curling bonspiel that 50-60 doctors attended on the day a pandemic was declared...

Meanwhile, we are reading news articles of Canadians stuck abroad pleading with the government to get them home, criticizing the government for not doing so, or not doing so fast enough. People who went on trips in the middle of this.

I have been seriously shaking my head lately at how oblivious the average person is.

Just saw on the news that at least 100 flights (50 West Jet and 50 Air Canada) are trying to bring people home. Hopefully your brother gets on one.

Hey Blue, that really sucks. I think the phrase that sums it up is "they know not what they do". Unless you have followed this like most here, the reality will only be understood when it is happening. Here, we've painted a picture of what we could expect and seen it play out... most people are lacking that...

I cried my eyes out this morning when I woke, as I came to realise that I couldn't risk seeing my folks because the dangers of infection either way (from them to me or me to them). Then I thought about how I'd be the bad guy for telling my brother and sister to stay at home. The unwinnable scenario, no right answer. I was thankful after speaking to my mum that both my brother and sister were aware enough to stay in. It doesn't make it feel any better. Reading your story, well, my heart goes out to you.
In a few weeks, the picture will become painfully clear to everyone, and your actions will make sense. Very hard in the interim. Give it time. Staying in is being protective of everyone you know. 2 way transmission. They shouldn't want to give it you either. Tough all round.

Anyway, this thread isn't a support group, so I'll leave it there. But please, if you need to let off steam or what have you, just PM me. Happy to swap emails or what have you. Same to DankyDSmythe. Here in the UK, I'm not sure how many of us have a good handle on what is happening, which brings a deeper isolation than most. So, if you feel you need it, I'm happy to chat.

I love the emphasis on a "few weeks".

What are people going to think and do when a few weeks turns into a few months?

Look around at the rest of the world.

Earlier this week the local DFW news did a ' verify' segment on how safe the drive thrus or curb side delivery options would be at restaurants. Not sure if this is happening nationwide but it's a big deal here now. Restaurants will deliver to your car if you pull up and all the fast food driveways are still going. Also the Gov. made alcoholic drinks available for the same restaurants to deliver with meals. Sounds great right? But is the risk actually that low? Can't the food worker's breath or cough or sneeze get on your bag, the burger wrapper, the cocktail glass etc? I feel like its' actually not that safe at all but a means to keep some tiny segment of economy flowing, despite the risk.

Also, in our rural town we have one verified case. Locals on fb were demanding to know the name of the patient. The health department said he has mild symptoms, did recently travel and is resting at home. I felt very worried for him whenever people want to know his name. Literally sounds like a witch hunt. Be careful out there, friends. If you or a loved one does have it, don't post about it and don't tell others. You may get really mistreated by the folks who used to be your loving townspeople.

Well, if my local grocery store was to be the barometer, of panic, the meat 🥩 shelves were empty at noon. Ironically thou, plenty of fish 🤷‍♂️. TP shelves are still bare. All the laundry detergent was bare. Had a snotty old rich lady say something snarky to me. Also had some stranger guy eaves drop on a conversation I was having with my wife, saying some sarcastic # out of his neck. Lol I was joking to my wife on the way home that we will probably start hearing news of violence over food in grocery stores soon in my area. They already have cops handing out TP in some areas.

Breathing' is enough to spread flu
The common belief is that flu is spread through coughs and sneezes from infected individuals and from touching surfaces contaminated with the virus. However, studies reveal that people with the flu can shed the infectious virus into the air around them just by breathing.
