Do you remember this scene from American Werewolf in London??

Well that is the kind of welcome that smaller close knit communities will be giving over the coming weeks. I know people around where I live, and they are tight and everyone knows everyone. It might all get a bit weird...

Well, if pubs were open that is.

I don't know....do I have to quote your last three posts. "wash your hands a little bit more, don't go out in public"......this one by you:

a reply to: Fowlerstoad

Feel free to wear a mask. Many are.

Better yet, don't go out in public unless necessary.

I'm not sure feeling free to wear a mask or not would really apply to docs on the front lines.
Just seems really flippant by you right now.

Just popping this here for anyone who's interested....a consultant from the UK telling it how it is, and how it will be if people don't start taking this seriously.

Powerful stuff.

And, of course, you ignore context and conflate posts.

Here, btw, is what another doctor says:

"The current recommendations regarding masks are that if you yourself are sick with fever and cough, you can wear a surgical mask to prevent transmission to other people. If you are healthy, there is not thought to be any additional benefit to wearing a mask yourself because the mask is not airtight and does not necessarily prevent breathing in of these viral particles, which are very tiny," says Dr. Nipunie Rajapakse, a Mayo Clinic infectious diseases specialist.

It's easy to misunderstand something when you jump into the middle of a conversation.

And I doubt any of that sage advice applies to doctors going to work right now dealing with active patients.
context? really? AFTER I told you he's a doc? I'm not conflating nor ignoring context for anything. Methinks, it's you that's doing that.

Kansas City Metro area (both Kansas and Missouri sides) will be under a shelter in place for 30 days, starting at 12:01am on Tuesday. They want time to allow people to go to work and get what they need to work from home on Monday.

Johnson County, on the Kansas side, has had community spread this past week. We just had our first death today from it, and the person got it through community spread.

Fun times.

Perhaps you weren't cognizant of the context of the whole conversation about masks.

It's not about health care folk. Read back a bit.

Perhaps I am not. But having read back three pages, I think the context is that FowlersToad is a doc. Different rules, completely. I apologize if I have not fully grasped the reality. However, his/her wearing a mask vs. the public is entirely different.

Source?

CDC - Dr Fauci. I'm on my phone no link, believe me or not.

Other statistics I saw came from closed cases, including the source you linked to.
If the case is not closed, the outcome isn't known yet.

True, it is a fluid situation, which is why trends are important. As I said, USA rates have been going down steadily.

WTF 1000 deaths in the UK in the last 24 hours, is that a mistake...

I hope it is otherwise this is way worse than we think.

Update: Tokyo, March 22, 2020 Sunday 9am

1. Japanese people are still going to the cherry blossom areas. I understand they can sit down for 15 minutes eat their rice balls and have to leave.
2. Crime against the elderly is increasing. Thugs are poising as professional people and getting the elderly to open their doors. These criminals follow the elderly home and work in pairs. I haven't heard of any arrest yet.
3. I'd like to stress that there is no panic in buying or hysteria going on. (will this change in the future... don't know)
4. Olympics is still on. ( funny thing about this, most airlines are on restricted entry into Japan )

This is a current update from March 21 Saturday

Out of 1,055 infected persons in Japan and travelers / returnees from China, etc.

The above is subject to change today.

I'm listening to the speech of the President. All sounds great. Good job President Trump. Pence and his wife are getting tested. I assume by now the testing is done. Results ?

Stay safe every one. If you go out, at least wear a scarf and keep a distance from people. I'd suggest to at least have 2 weeks of supplies for the time being. And watch out for criminal activity in your neighborhood.

Our community, ABQ NM, is doing the same thing too as a way to increase the longevity of the supplies they have. It really is better than nothing but the majority of people don't understand particle size and what the 95 and 100 actually stand for. What worries me is someone wearing the mask alone and thinking they are protected.

On a separate note, 15 out of the last 22 cases here in ABQ were people < 50 years old, 68% to be precise with one infant, 2 teens, 3 people in their 20s and 4 in their 30s. We have a total of 57 now in our state, most in my county Bernalillo:

infant 1 5%
Teen 2 9%
20 3 14%
30 4 18%
40 5 23%
50 2 9%
60 1 5%
70 3 14%
80 1 5%
22 New cases a/o 3/21

Begs the question, just how accurate are any numbers were getting from all these sites, it doesn't give me much confidence in them.
