With all due respect, people need to stop sighting the ''flu figures''

They are meaningless for a number of reasons and it gives people a false sense of security.

No one is saying ''PANIC!''... but stop trivializing this.

There has been weeks of warning signs and red flags.. If you haven't gotten your self prepared and your affairs in order, then its only you and yours who will struggle.

People are going to lose their heads, that's inevitable - no one will stop that happening.
People need to understand that, focus on yourself and your own loved ones. Prepare, reach out, react accordingly.

This nonsense of ''its just the flu'' is dangerous!

Harvard epidemiology professor Marc Lipsitch predicts that within the coming year, some 40 to 70% of people around the world will be infected with the COVID19 virus. The World Health Organization reports that @ 3.4% of people that catch COVID19 die. Medical Doctor Anthony S. Fauci, Director of NIAID, reports that up to 20% of people that catch COVID19 require hospitalization. If 50% of the USA catches it, potentially over 30 million people will require hospitalization within the next year. The USA currently only has @ 1 million hospital beds. With hospitals full of COVID19 patients, the numbers of causalities in the top 10 causes of death may all increase due to lack of hospital care/resources, exhausted by COVID19 patients. Wash your hands!

Another big concern is its effects on markets. Gold is near $1700 per ounce, 10-year U.S. bond yields are below .8%. Oil is near $30 per barrel & will probably go towards $20 per barrel this week. DOW futures are set to open -1000 points & this just the begining of financial turmoil caused by COVID19. Supply chains from China are halted. there are over half a billion people under quarantine around the world. Nearly everything we consume comes form China, including some prescription drugs, some food, automobile parts for new cars, etc.. I have a feeling the media is downplaying COVID19 & its lot worse than what they want us all to think.

You have a feeling ... I have a feeling. That's the real problem isn't it? We all have feelings, and we'd rather indulge them instead of looking at facts.

It's fun to be scared. It's fun to scare other people. It's thrilling to think that in the next few months we'll all be living our very own gritty survival scenario, but reality is going to be different.

I hope you are right but it is not looking pretty.

I do not see many people "doom porning" at all. Most of us are citing WHO statistics, real news sources, and notated world events.

I see way too many people passing up sensible stuff and opting instead for the worst case.

Are bad things gonna happen? Sure.

But I'm looking at a personal level. Am I likely to live? Yes. Are you likely to live? Unless you belong to certain demographic groups or get really unlucky ... also, yes.

Where there's life, there's always hope. Society isn't going to end because of this because most of us are coming out the other side. Even if the economy crashes in the short term, it has the potential to correct quickly if it's allowed to once the dust settles.

I cannot be bothered to spend my days stressing over problems I cannot control. And I don't see why everyone thinks it helps matters to do so. I am ready to get me and mine through, as ready as I can be. Otherwise, I walk with God. He knows what's going to happen, and it's up to Him.

I'm kind of looking forward to a quarantine. Me and the lady of the manor, along with our trusty half viszla, half, pit bull are gonna get fat and work on our fish tanks and play video games.

I've been working 70 hour weeks and could use a vacation.

I just hope the banks give everyone that's been quarantined a break on mortgage payments or what have you. Everyone is going to be late on their bills. That's my only real worry at this point.

I own a restaurant, so it's a bit tricky for me. No work, no customers, and on and on it goes.

Gotcha,

I am seeing specifically the opposite. Getting hounded when real statistics are posted by the "Flu-Truthers / Flu Bros" who seem to be in every thread downplaying this. I am really not liking what I am seeing on the internet today from these guys who are now saying "let the old millions die" because their lives are not worth the trouble of caring for them and they are a burden on society. No problem, it doesn't kill the young people (like these fools don't have parents or grandparents they care about).

Others are acting like this is a political stunt. Italy is not a political stunt to get Trump people. This is a real virus, with real people infected, with real people dying, with real world wide economic turmoil, supply shortages, and possibly an overwhelmed medical system in 60 days.

To be honest I don't see any people acting like society is coming to an end or overreacting in any way but I do see people trying to brush it away or even hide what is going on which is just as bad or possible worse as people wont be on their guard.
I am a level headed person. You guys know I dont buy into most of the conspiracies around here.
Obviously we will all have to deal with this on our own level whether we get sick or not.
Trying to trivialize it is also not the best way to deal with it.

Ask yourself if you know anyone, personally, who has contracted the illness.
If the answer is no (which it likely is), ask yourself if you know anyone who knows anyone who has been infected.
If the answer to both of these questions is no, then rest assured that the threat of Coronavirus is less imminent than top-of-mind thinking might lead you to believe.

Corona virus comes out, everyone goes apesh*t. 3000 deaths.

300,000 people die from obesity per year. Doritos comes out with a new flavor, mmmmmm.

More people died in Italy from corona virus today alone, than obesity today, wise guy.

Lol using generalized statistics to normalize a painful novel virus for many.

I am done playing with stupid tonight. 🤦‍♂️ The ignorant will remain the ignorant and the wise will remain the wise, Darwin’s law, there are just more ignorant people alive now because we developed a system to keep them alive and safe.
