I wonder how many people didn't have the 'virus' but still passed away due to the drastic measures their government took.

Good question, probably quite a few...

Well it's been a while since I was on but seeing as the internet is lighting up with all the crazies I thought this may be the most rational of places to get some information.

I don't really have much to add so I will lurk.

I do work and travel a lot within the UK so if anything pops up I'll be sure to add it.

Stay safe people.

Pretty much the same here. Strangely, I came back here just to see if there was much being said about the whole UFO subject, but found a lot of political threads. This place didn't look the same, and I wondered what happened... then Corona really started gathering pace, and my spidey sense was tingling like crazy... so here I am.
It's really nice to find quite a few people such as myself sticking their heads up again (I've seen a fair few saying hello)... even more so from the UK (hello fellow Britains).

Anyway, welcome back and to this thread!

Just a reminder to anyone new around here, that this thread is for broad general discussion around corona/covid19. For general information updates, they can be found at the following links :-

Many thanks to saladfingers for starting this thread - I will make this my home base from here on.

I mentioned before that I had being trying to persuade housemates to contribute to a month's worth of supplies, but met with blank stares - well things have moved on rapidly, with tonight's TV news virtually all about Corona, and warning at the end that the ghost city that is Rome now could be any major European city tomorrow.

Well, all of a sudden the housemates are suggesting putting £100 each into the kitty and stocking up - exactly what I suggested last week.

I think it is sinking in, and yet how bad must things be behind the scenes that the MSM's presentation of the situation is making the placid and disinterested sit up?

I remember reading your story a few days back. LOL. How quick the work turns huh... Well, better late than never eh.

And yes, the information they must have to be taking these extreme measures must be more dire than what we are being told. I suspect that the overall death rate is up, but underlying illnesses are being used as cover to hide the true figures... that is my guess.

I think it is interesting to read between the lines of the rhetoric from Boris. Weeks...Months ahead, ...Very significant Expansion... I mean, just from internet knowledge this was clear a week ago. I'm glad they are actual now saying it. I think they were buying time. They still could have been making advisement back then given other countries. Containment was never a realistic option, and I'm pretty sure they knew it.

It took President Barack Hussein Obama many months to declare "Swine Flu" a public health concern. He did so only after more than 1,000 (One Thousand!) U.S. Citizens had perished.

The Obama-friendly mainstream media gave him a pat on the back for a job well done.

Sigh. Please fact-check your [vaguely racist] propaganda before you regurgitate it.

Did Obama do ANYTHING AT ALL like what you said? Did he let thousands die from swine flu? OF COURSE NOT

There are several factual inaccuracies in this excerpt alone. For instance, PJ media writes that H1N1 became a pandemic in April 2009. But that’s not the case. The disease emerged in April but wasn’t declared a pandemic until June.

The excerpt also claims that Obama “declared a public health emergency on what was already a pandemic” in October 2009. But this is also wrong. Obama declared a national emergency, not a public health emergency, in October 2009. The Obama administration declared a public health emergency in April, months before swine flu was declared a pandemic. At the time that the Obama administration declared a public health emergency, only 20 confirmed cases (not over a million) of H1N1 existed in the United States.

Amazing what having the MSM in your back pocket can do for a President/Party.
The journalists that did not play ball were spied on and intimidated.

It is the 'unprecedented' response and attention that makes this so interesting. Numbers have slowed to a drip out of China. Spooky. Has China just stopped testing?
Common sense would seem to dictate that all of China would have to be super infested,

So if the majority of COVID-19 recipients are only going to experience middle symptoms; if at all; how are these people going to know to stay away from others?

For example I was very mildly sick over the week end; watery eyes, face congestion, headache, even a bit of a chill. Cleared up in little over 24 hours. And it coincides with 7 to 14 days after I was on international travel. Same for my wife; and my kids haven't complained about feeling sick but thay do sound nasally. We likely just have a round of the common cold; but how would we know if it was more than that and we are spreading it around?

Except, like the poster you quoted, that’s just not the facts. Jesus, if we have a country full of people who blindly believe anything they hear just because it hates on the people you hate, or praises the people you Love, then we are well and truly effed. We deserve a pandemic if these posts are representative of how stupid this country actually is.

No, I don't necessarily think he caught it from the Dr.'s office. They have an acute entrance to use when sick. His job takes him daily to different homes all around Columbus.

Those interested may want to read the WHO's findings: www.nejm.org...

My apologies if it was already posted.

I'm plotting infection totals to make long term predictions for various countries, and I want to place them up here to see if they are accurate. I'm thinking this might be useful to accurately gauge at what point various countries are implementing certain actions. It might just help giving a "heads up" before things come down the line. It may or may not be useful. It's certainly a little interesting. So, with that said.....

See predictions and actual figures compared below that I made yesterday privately for estimations for the end of today.

My model made the following predictions for today:-
Europe
Prediction 2779
Actual 2734
Notes This is actually pretty close, just under 50 out. So I'm hopefully close to accurate for short term prediction.

Italy
Prediction 2255
Actual 2036
This is a fair bit out, Slower growth than predicted...So that is good news.
Whether it is reflective of reality and a slow down or just how many were tested is impossible to find out.

Japan
Prediction 278
Actual 275
Pretty close, just 3 out.

United Kingdom
Prediction 56
Actual 40
Being in the UK, I'm sceptical that the given figures are currently accurate. So here I am quite a way over. It is still early days, so this will become more accurate as time goes on, or the figures will jump tomorrow to account for it.

France
Prediction 159
Actual 191
So quite a big leap, so clearly France is still finding it's actual rate of infection... still on the up-curve of the bell.
I'll plug the actual figures into my graph now, and make tomorrows predictions below.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------->>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

So predictions for tomorrows figures are as follows, and I'll compare them at midnight tomorrow and do the same again for the next day and so on. I'll also make some long term predictions at the end (i.e. A week ahead)

So...

Europe (End of Day 63)
Prediction 3297

Italy (End of Day 63)
Prediction 2662

Japan (End of Day 63)
Prediction 290

United Kingdom (End of Day 63)
Prediction A 77 (This is staying on the path that I created yesterday)
Prediction B 44 (This is altering the vector to the slow increase given today of only 4 people)
I'm expecting Prediction A to be correct, not prediction B

France (End of Day 63)
Prediction 251

New to the prediction today...
USA (End of Day 63)
Prediction 147

This concludes tomorrows end of day overall case predictions.

If anyone would like me to track any other countries, then please let me know. I'll probably try and get all the major ones in there in time, but it all takes time that I don't have tonnes of.

Finally, here are estimates for overall infection case numbers predicted for the end of day, next Monday.

Europe (End of Day 69) Monday 9th March
Prediction 6676

Italy (End of Day 69) Monday 9th March
Prediction 6424

Japan (End of Day 69) Monday 9th March
Prediction 377

United Kingdom (End of Day 69) Monday 9th March
Prediction 204

France (End of Day 69) Monday 9th March
Prediction 613

USA (End of Day 69) Monday 9th March
Prediction 428
Edit to add> Fleabits prediction 800-1000

It'll be interesting to see how close these are. A week is a long time, and so the margin for error will be much higher.
We shall see!

I hope this is interesting to some folks. Cheers!

I think the U.S. total will be much higher, if only because they are starting to "allow" testing (and have more working test kits). In a week, I have a feeling we could be closer to 800 to 1k. Or more.. if they test as aggressively as they suggested they would.

It makes you wonder, at what point do you stop keeping track and writing down numbers? If it goes beyond a point, predictions are probably all they need and might be working out strategies instead.

You must not realize that complaining about someone in the past that you hate, with biased and untrue #s, cancels out anything the current administration and POTUS does. It's a carte blanch ticket to excuse Trump and his administration for all poor handling and stupid decisions around this crisis.

To be fair, I think some discussion of at least the political situation as it pertains to the current decisions of our government and their bodies (FEMA, TSA etc.) should be in order. As long as it's not dredging up items that don't pertain, whatsoever. The government and the current admin can critically impact the daily lives of Americans, be it from quarantines, lost work, medical help, how this all gets paid for, and so on.

Our government is integral in how this unfolds - it shouldn't be exempt from discussion.

I believe it will be higher as well. We do not know the extent of the backlog the CDC needs to work through. A family member is telling me they still have not heard back on any swabs they sent to have tested.
