JetBlue bans passenger who notified crew after landing that he'd tested positive for coronavirus

Stupid people that do this should face jail or very hefty fines for putting other peoples lives at risk.

One of my employees reports that they went to the supermarket yesterday and it was crazier than Thanksgiving & Christmas. Stuff is selling out.

My spouse (1st grade teacher) is handing "learning bags" out to all the students "just in case they close school" (I'm pretty confident they will beginning on Monday). Spouse worried summer break is in jeopardy now - I said that's the least of our worries (not to be alarmist but just a realist)

Also I received TWO responses to my Front Porch Forum posting about mobilizing efforts, talking with town officials, limiting public events etc. One of them teaches public health at the local State University so they might be a good contact - happy I had some response at least (my February 1 posting had zero responses of course).

This weekend will be interesting... I want to go to the supermarket - they have a "Groceries to Go" option where you pay a little extra to have an employee do the shopping for you and deliver it to your car. Will disinfect myself and packaging if I choose to do that. Just not sure what inventory will even look like...

Stay safe this weekend everyone.

Keep the faith and remain logical, not overly emotional or irrational over what you are witnessing and hearing. Only time will tell. These forums are such a valuable resource and I thank each of you for your contribution during these crazy times!

Much love from FamCore to the whole ATS fam

Canadian scientists make COVID-19 research breakthrough, isolating virus

TORONTO -- A group of Canadian scientists has successfully isolated and grown copies of the novel coronavirus responsible for the COVID-19 pandemic, paving the way for a potential vaccine.

Researchers say isolating the virus will help develop treatments, vaccines and tests for the virus and allow them to conduct long-term research to understand the biology of COVID-19.

"We need key tools to develop solutions to this pandemic,” Dr. Samira Mubareka, microbiologist and infectious diseases physician at Sunnybrook, said in a statement.

Spain is now up to 812 for the day... approaching Italy's numbers 5 days ago
Spain now 4209 and 120 deaths! All schools closed in Spain bar one.

I posted daily cases, not total cases!

Anyway,it's gone up again for the day to 1,063 new cases and 34 deaths!

Waiting on Italy's numbers but it doesn't look contained to me.

Also the UK have posted just 19 new cases today but I think that will increase, if not, then I think its false numbers if you look at the daily rise yesterday and the days before

Has anyone heard anything about an upcoming national quarantine going into effect in about a week? I’ve heard from a few different sources that are in the know that the government is already drawing up plans to do this.

It’ll be in one to two weeks, and it’ll last a month. During that time no one will be allowed to shop for groceries or do anything in public. Just to be safe make sure you have enough food stocked up. It may happen, it may not. But it’s best to be prepared.

I figured there are probably people here who know people in the same type of circles I do, so if you’ve heard anything let me know. I’m just trying to figure out how true this is.

Things got very real here yesterday. I am always moderately stocked and also picked up extras here and there the last month. I'm in ok shape I think. It seems we are somewhat neighbors. PM if you get low and you can drive by and I'll throw some supplies in your car. We gotta help each other when we can. I am going to check on an elderly lady up the street today to see how she's fixed for supplies.
That panicky feeling is the tool of the enemy. It's hard to resist but know it's by design. We'll be ok

I believe all governments should seek emergency orders that public utilities not be allowed to disconnect people during this outbreak for nonpayment. I put cell phones in that category too since people are dependent on phones to communicate with health care providers and others during isolation or self-quarantine. We are also going to have to look at rent for apartments/home mortgage payments and other expenses as this carries on. Many hourly workers are losing jobs and income today because of mandatory shutdowns.

The announcement about halting shutoffs comes the day after Attorney General William Tong sought an emergency moratorium on electric, natural gas, and water utility shut-offs in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

The petition seeks to cease all utility service terminations for a 30-day period subject to renewal to ensure all residents can safely remain home during the epidemic.

I wonder who termed the phrase 'Herd Mentality' because this chief scientific advisor wants over 40 million brits to get the virus so that we can begin our own body defenses against it and therefore create our own Immunity!

Chief scientific adviser wants 40million Britons - 60 percent of the entire population - to catch coronavirus for herd immunity to take effect

www.dailymail.co.uk...

Sir Patrick Vallance said millions fighting off the virus that has killed ten in Britain and almost 5,000 worldwide will 'help' in the long run because it is likely to become an 'annual virus'. He told Sky News: 'Sixty per cent is the sort of figure you need to get herd immunity.' Sir Patrick told the BBC that the advice the Government is following for tackling coronavirus is not looking to 'suppress' the disease entirely but to help create a 'herd immunity in the UK'.

'That is exactly the risk you would expect from previous epidemics. If you suppress something very, very hard, when you release those measures it bounces back and it bounces back at the wrong time. 'Our aim is to try and reduce the peak, broaden the peak, not suppress it completely, to build up some kind of herd immunity so more people are immune to this disease and we reduce the transmission, at the same time we protect those who are most vulnerable to it. Those are the key things we need to do.' Herd immunity is normally achieved through vaccinations, in which millions of patients get a jab to train their immune system to fight off pathogens such as the measles virus in future. But Britain’s attempt to develop herd immunity in a real-time outbreak – of a disease for which there is currently no vaccine – is controversial. It means tens of thousands will be infected – and thousands will ultimately die because they have caught it – in order to protect the population as a whole from catching it down the line.

TBH, I don't think 40 odd million brits will want to catch this virus!

A lot of people seem furious about this in comments I’ve seen on news articles and social media... I don’t like this plan one bit! Lots of people complaining about not being able to buy pasta, tinned items, loo roll and hand wash. I knew this was coming so I’m glad I got what we needed weeks ago.

So folks, I’m now in self isolation.

My mum has been working in Paris and her office has a number of people test positive. She returned back to the Uk, then started to develop symptoms. She rang 111 and they said they’ve stopped testing for mild cases.
An ambulance did come and take her to north manchester general. She had her temperature took and they listened to her chest. They will not test her as she only has mild symptoms. She has had face to face meetings with people who have tested positive over the past week or two.
I have seen her recently and have started with a cough myself today and feel shivery. 111 is almost permanently engaged in the U.K.

She has said that the hospital she went to was being emptied out. They are converting all available spaces to wards to keep people on if they go bad.

She has worked with the NHS before when building hospitals at a very senior level and is party to information about what would happen in the case of an epidemic. She said there starting to take measures that she had heard discussed in meetings previously. Looks like there expecting it to get very bad and quite soon.

I have been told not to work by my employer. Luckily I have enough food and what not so I’m ok. Also went to the Lego store the other week just in case.

I’ll update as I know more.

I think you should possibly post in this thread. Keep everybody posted.

On the plus side the article states that;

the company is taking “reasonable precautions” in response to the spread of Coronavirus disease 2019 - in Connecticut and remains confident that COVID-19 poses no risk to drinking water.

So that's a bonus!

Except for some reason I don't believe them 🤔

Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro tests positive for coronavirus after meeting Trump

Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro has tested positive for the coronavirus just days after downplaying the outbreak.

The right-wing Bolsonaro came up positive for the COVID-19 virus in his first test, according to local media reports.

Bolsonaro and his press secretary have both tested positive for coronavirus after meeting and dining Saturday with President Donald Trump at his Mar-A-Lago resort, where they also mingled with other top U.S. officials and conservative media figures.

Okay, the theory that ACE inhibitors could affect how patient's with COVID-19 progress now has some more support. Unfortunately, it is the OPPOSITE of what I had wanted to hear / predicted. ACE inhibitor drugs taken for high blood pressure are predicted to make the severity of symptoms WORSE (it is just a theory, but seems plausible). I am going to consider discontinuing my patients on it where possible, and will look for another type of high blood pressure medicine, after reading this article, at least for the time being:

Not really but,

About an hour ago my throat is starting to act a little sore and getting a bit more as time goes by.

I am also feeling a bit dizzy and kind of strange.

No fever. Will continue to monitor the situation. I'm hoping it isn't from the corner mexican food stand.

Damnit

That's you favorite place off of 55 though! It cant be!

I'm hoping for the best. I'm not feeling any worse this morning so I guess that is a good thing.

I brought a sandwich today, just in case..
