somehow, there is a black superman and a chinese superman, in the dc comics. they are actually in print from years ago.

if they recast him as a black, its fine, if you ask me. but the fans want a few more films with henry cavill, and that would be a mistake on wb.

one of batman's army is black, and he is taking over for batman for a bit in the comics. but commissioner gordan, dick grayson, alfred, etc have become batman in the past.

it sucks when they do crazy stunts like killing a main superhero, because you know its temp.

they got rid of spiderman, replaced him with a clone for a year or so, which was stupid. i do not want to see the 'clones' adventures, i want to see peter parker's adventures.

unless they make ma and pa kent from some neighborhood in newark nj, if they kept the core story, just him as a REGULAR kid, then it will all be based on the script and director whether or not its a good movie.

Who cares? Why would someone who doesn’t care about race care what color a person in a movie is?

Why would they care if a character is changed from white to black?

The right wing has nothing left but identity politics.

And yes, Stan Lee did create characters of other than white races. i'm not, but it could be suggested that THAT was pandering to minorities. One might also suggest that if not all, then the majority of those characters were ''side kicks'' and other support characters.

One your first point, pigs "could" fly too. I understand your needing to play devil's advocate by even mentioning that but if you knew the history of the writers, you wouldn't even bring it up.

On your second point you would also be wrong, there were many minority characters that were major players. At the moment I can't think of any "sidekicks" in the Marvel world, which is where I spent most of my youth but there may have been. Most of those characters were loners by nature.

Anyway, my original point stands.

The point I was trying to make Hal, was not that those writers were racist rather that those ''times'' declared that the clear choice for main character would be one that would sell to the largest market target and that, at that time was young white boys just as the market target for Barbie's were young white girls. Nothing more.

And if the point you say still stands is this one

it's really just a poor movie-making trend out of a business with no new ideas.

then i agree, that the movie making trend has no new ideas is the real point here, Stretching a concept to it's ridiculous extremes.

Because a person is who they are the same way that characters are who they are. Are you suggesting that it would be perfectly acceptable to cast Natalie Portman as Martin Luther King, Chuck Norris as Bruce Lee (or Jackie Chan as Chuck Norris) and why then is it considered racist to watch those scenes from Breakfast at Tiffany's where a white man portrayed an Asian or why is it bad for Johnny Depp to portray Tonto or John Wayne to play Genghis Khan?

Pretty much all of these don't fly, and you know why, and it's for the same reason people look at this and say, "Oh, FFS!"

Alot of the times DC and Marvel, copy and make their own adaptations of certain characters. Imitation or flattery, you be the judge.

They did pull it off with Nick Fury, but that because of Samuel L Jackson charming personality when it comes to english. They do have Steel, even though they tried it with Shaq.

I could see Morgan Freeman pull off a Zeus role.

Broadcasting and the science behind it all is vastly imo credited to a few individuals and government funded military research. The notion that it's racist that there aren't black actors through its rather short history is so blatantly misconstrued.

Who invented and developed the radio and tv tube? What we've seen over history is the natural evolution of broadcasting.

Being racial isn't negative it's natural. If we are going to live multiracial it isn't going to happen over the course of 10 maybe 100 years that is what is natural. It's nobodies fault.

We need to be able to see the people who use this problem to do what they want.

entertainment industry has been inherently racist since the days of blackface and before. I don’t see it’s current behavior as much different and I find it quite condescending to their entire audience. a reply to: ChefFox

It has to do with marketing. Why pay millions to promote a new character fans are unfamiliar with when you can just pull a known character from the bag and slap something new and edgy on them? The industry is lazy and instead rides on the hard work of those who came before.

I'm glad they picked the worst black actor, I'm sure Superman will grow up in the Bronx and live in a pimped out crib and speak ebonics.

I wonder why Hollywood is obsessed with casting black actors but seems disinterested in Hispanic actors? Mexican Americans alone comprise 11.1 percent of the population, while blacks comprise 12.7 percent. Hispanics of all races are about 18 percent of the populace. Yet you see far more black men cast as love interests of white actresses; almost never a Hispanic man with a white woman. Hispanic actors in general — especially Hispanic men — seem grossly underrepresented in TV and film. Why is that?

It depends. If the hispanic person in question serves the liberal narrative (example. AOC) then they are considered a POC. If the hispanic person in question doesn't tow the line, they are written off as white. We are seeing white liberals call black people white supremacist, because the don't tow the line. That's how extreme the mental gymnastics get with leftists.

On the subject of comics, there are 2 black Superman. Too not use one of those existing characters and race swap the original is racist in two ways. One, is the obvious, it's racist against white people. Why is now not ok to have white characters? Two, race swapping is racist against black people, because you are ignoring existing black characters. Basically, saying, those characters are not good enough to stand on their own, which is B.S.

For instance, it would stupid to race swap Hal Jordan from white to black, because John Stewart ( a black green lantern) already exists.

John Stewart, one of the characters known as Green Lantern, is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics and was the first African-American superhero to appear in DC Comics.[1] The character was created by Dennis O'Neil and Neal Adams, and first appeared in Green Lantern #87 (December 1971/January 1972). Stewart's original design was based on actor Sidney Poitier.

Whats next.. white panther ?

I hear Marvel is planning the aggressively progressive adaption of the She-Hulk "to be called He/She Hulk" and DC is planning to fire all current male actors in the Arrowverse and is replacing them with gay, colored, female actors.

In my opinion, this is all so very, very WOKE of them..!!

And if you disagree.... Well then, your some kind of -------Phobe..!!

Some are, some aren’t, e.g., Hispanic blacks. They aren’t a separate race if that’s what you’re getting at. But if someone used an epithet like beaner or greaser to describe a Hispanic person, that would likely be labeled as racist. But getting back to my original question, why do the TV and film industries seem to discriminate against Hispanics? Why the hard-on for blacks and coolness toward Hispanic actors? I’m genuinely interested.
