A real civil war involves current and ex-military, you would need Generals and Admirals commanding armies and navies and air power on both sides. So let's say Trump is impeached by the senate, but instead of going he calls on the military to intervene and a couple divisions with there Generals respond. Now the rest of the military would have a choice support these 2 divisions or kill their own. Personally I think it would start a domino effect that might leave a few battalions with anti-Trumpers officers. It would be over really fast either way, with very few deaths. It could result in liberal states wanting to break away like California, which might declare it's Independence. In that case would it's national guard and militia be able to fight off the federal army, unlikely.

a reply to: JAGStorm A civil war would be devastating. We are now on a National Banking System. States in rebellion would be cut off of funds. Local economies would collapse over night. The U. S. Navy and Coast Guard would seize all GOM or any offshore oil fields. It's just nasty even before the shooting would start.

I think the next civil war will have a very different dynamic. I think it will be very specific targets and all at once. I also think it will be very fast and it will shock the nation. I am not sure what the fall out would be but I don't think it will be widespread violence. I just don't see us all lining up on a battlefield that has no lines.
Either that or I read way too many books..

I think that, with due respects are undervaluing the commitment and understanding the Generals have for the Constitution. If McConnell betrays Trump...and he will...the Senate finds him guilty, he is no longer president. They no longer follow his orders, and in fact cannot. I wouldnt trust Pence to act for Trump, either.
True. He doesn't seem to have much of an imagination but shiny things catch his attention. He often seems to miss the point though, hearing what he wants to hear. Much like his base.
It is not like Donald Trump made up this notion of a civil war like fracture.
Walter said while she does not believe a second civil war will happen in the U.S. it's still important to discuss the topic.
I think a new civil war is possible. It will be different in many ways but in one particular way it will be very similar: It will be two very motivated groups willing to fight for their ideals and a whole lot of non-combatants caught in the middle.
