Would it even be possible?

President Trump and a Fox news host said there will be civil war if he is impeached.
Let's just say for a moment he is impeached.

Let's say the pro Trump faction is inflamed and ready to fight. Would it even be possible in this day and age to have a civil war?
During the first civil war there were defined geographic lines. I just don't think we have that today. California is the only very distinct are I can think of. There are some other liberal areas I can think of, but there are a lot of conservatives in those areas too.

Would the new civil are be a cyber civil war?

We are in a cold civil war as we speak. A coup is already happening trying to get rid of a sitting president by a group whom have been very open about their agenda to have him removed from office the second it was announced he was the winner of the election over Hillary Clinton.

It will go hot when and if they are successful in removing this President from office.

Describe "hot"...

If you would kill another American over politics, you're the problem.

And I can't help but think you're a useful idiot for Americas enemies that want us all to kill each other.

I don't see it happening.
People are too comfortable.
The only way it happens, is if a LOT of people are able to organize and rebel against the govt.
It would get swatted down quickly, unless they have the support of the military, or at the very least, police/sheriffs.
Only then, would it turn into something serious. Other than that, you would just see (probably) violent protests, that the police and/or military would handle.

The "Civil War" has been going on for years now, it's being fought on social media and in the minds of the brainwashed. "Democrat this, Republican that", it's history repeating itself and people refuse to see past their own nose. ATS is fully invested in the psyop, as are places such as Reddit that lean heavily to the left. Controlled opposition.

Guess what year "Captain America: Civil War" was released. 2016. Not a coincidence IMO, it's been in the works for a long time.

Not sure who you are talking to, but I know it's not me. It is amazing that I just asked a simple question about a civil war and you jump to conclusions. You are are perfect example of why people do want a war.
You have so much hate in your heart against someone you don't even know. Are we not allowed to even ask questions in this country anymore?

Unfortunately, that also seems to include him not winning re-election.

All through the 2016 election Trump claimed that it was all rigged, but he won. He'll use the same playbook in 2020, and if he loses in 2020 there seems to be plenty out there that will be willing to pick up their rifles to fight. His current rhetoric as already fanning those flames to divide the country even further in preparation for 2020.

That's my guess.

I can't imagine too many people laying down their lives for something political, even if the ends were dirty (haven't they been for decades).

We could argue how egregious this would be, but I don't see that many calling it the straw that broke the camels back to the point they give up everything.

It would be (in their mind) fighting against a tyrannical gov't, at that point.
CW2 did break out, it would not be people killing others because they agree or disagree with the impeachment, it would be people who disagree with it attacking gov't. (in my opinion)

It has become crystal clear what "side" condones offense and which condones defense.

On topic; we've been in a civil war for quite some time. The causalities and damage has been great. Lives, liberty and freedom being chief among them.

The extremes on both sides have been fanning those flames. Whether it be Trump in calling things rigged, or the other side calling most of his camp deplorable just because they believe in a different political approach.

The divide isn't as big as many would have us think though.

Democrats and Republicans both hover around 30% at any given time, and the far right or left even less. Than you have the independents who are around 40%, many of whom are apathetic. All these numbers are to be taken into account the fact only around 50% vote in a presidential election.

If we distilled the numbers down, it's a minority of people trying to wedge the country.

JAGStorm, if the way counties voted in 2016 is an indication, open conflict would at least initially be really mixed up. Further along, I expect some consolidation would occur with "blue" enclaves on the coasts and perhaps around some inland cities. The rest would be "red". But that description leaves much to be desired. Many in both "color regions" would either openly or covertly not support armed conflict. I may be recalling incorrectly, but perhaps early Civil War Kansas would give an indication of how ugly such a conflict could be.

Cheers

I wasn't talking about you in what I said. I was talking to the poster above me that said a civil war would happen if impeachment goes through.

Maybe the real problem is people like yourself jumping to conclusions about others like you just did?

I only see one side threatening the other with civil war.

I agree the flames have been fanned by both side's extremes, but there's a real and clear difference between a fringe group like antifa calling for violence, and the POTUS doing it.

As for people being "too comfortable", I can't agree. Grievance politics of the country's discomfort is exactly what got Trump into office.

"Civil war" likely won't happen, but I have a strong feeling if Trump loses in 2020, or is convicted in the impeachment and removed from office, then there will be riots and violent civil unrest.

Ok, and I see one side actually asserting their will with violent means.

So where does that leave the topic?
