Tell you what I think might have an impact, letting it be known that anyone with a HK passport will get right to remain in the West if they ask for it.
No way China wants to lose all their best bankers over this.

Exactly if those protesters support and love America and Britain that much they are free to move out aren't they? they have an airport.
No one is stopping them from moving.

Just the idea that they may not be welcome to stay here. Remove that and HK will just be a couple of grannies selling scrawny chickens outside a run down casino.

Are you suggesting that the only way people in China will have food or jobs is if they bow down to the Communist Party running the nation?

You are talking about millions of chinese people effected if your "plan" works. You are talking about China's main source of there ecomony gone.

You do not have to be a rocket scientist know know that this would be devastating for the Chinese people!

But hey! As long as it effects the Chinese government, the rest is collateral damage, right?

That no other form of Govt will provide/facilitate an economy for jobs or food?

Seriously! I mean seriously!?

Well than how do non-communist nations feed themselves or have jobs?

You are talking about a whole nation that will lose its main source of income! Use your bloody brain! Millions will lose their jobs, millions will have no money! It will be a domino effect. Nothing to do with bloody being communist or not! So why the hell do you keep on saying that!

We are talking about millions of innocent people!

Currently it is suppose to be an autonomous region somewhere between the Western and the Eastern systems

Like I said the reason for HK to be a supposed "autonomous region" was to be a puppet for the western interests and influence in the region.

While keeping an eye on China.

So in order to seek "Peace", I should want China to kill innocent people who want their freedom?

Ah that wording again that went so well in Libya?
"We have to go in Libya to stop the madman from killing millions of innocent Libyans!"
"We have to stop Assad, his killings millions of innocent Syrians!,we gota support the rebels! start the bombing"

Should you prefer an military intervention then? only to start a war with China over HK?

China's the one that wants to kill people for disagreeing with the govt policy.

And for the record I opposed military intervention in Libya and in Syria.
Every situation is different and calls for it's own unique opinion.

I dunno what anyone thinks we're gonna realistically do. Hong Kong is part of China. To stop China from sending troops in, we would have to invade China. This is nothing like Crimea. That was part of Ukraine. Ukraine was begging the UN for help. The UN could've just stationed some troops there and Russia would have never invaded because it would start a major war. Same reason US can't do anything about Hong Kong, it would start a major war.

It's funny listening to all these people calling for sanctions, the same people that swear tariffs don't work against China.

ETA: Didn't the UK turn Hong Kong over to China? Instead of everyone whining that the US isn't doing enough, blame the Brits.

I wanted tariffs way before Trump ever came in.
I've been against "free trade agreements" because they have been crippling the US economy.

Hong Kong isn't exactly part of China either, it's in a twilight zone/gray area transitional spot. Currently it is suppose to be an autonomous region somewhere between the Western and the Eastern systems. It's confusing I know.

It has its own government but China has sovereignty over it. That's the important question, who has sovereignty over it? Even if the HK government asked US troops to come in, we can't unless China approves. We'd be violating China's sovereignty, an act of war. Do we want a war with China?

This situation in HK is kinda exposing your stance.
But one thing is clear the NeoCons and interventionists are loving the protests in HK to.

North Korea condemns China?

I don’t think so
And forget Trump sending any troops anywhere near China over this.

Likely, the US is already helping the protesters.

The obvious reasons being that we don't want another Tianamen square from the government.

I can't speak for any Americans, but plenty of Brits I know aren't too happy with the thought of Mainland China stomping all over the rights of the HK people, many of whom have families here.

And this is why the Second Amendment is so important here in the United States of America. And also why some members of our elected officials want to take it away from us. a reply to: muzzleflash

Agree 100%!!

Thank God we have that Constitution - but it is under attack and we need to do everything we can to protect it and to push back against the tyrants who are continually trying to erode and destroy it.

We need to remove restrictions that were placed upon that 2nd Amendment, it's insane that people want more added. It's scary and sad to see people hating their Freedom so much.

Thank you for posting the plain Truth!

Freedom? Freedom is an illusion. You really think you are free, or ever have been free? Seriously?

I never said anyone was 100% free.

But I sure am free to post on ATS.
China isn't.

I'm free to speak out against my govt.
China isn't.

I'm free to draw pictures of Pandas getting hurt.
China isn't.

That means you are free? Why don't you loom into it deeper, then tell me how free you really are? You think you are free because you are told you are free. You are not free, no one is free, one way or another!

Not to mention Trump risks losing his re-election of proclaiming to be a none interventionist. A few of his known base supporters had already left Trump because of his slow promises to fix the borders.

Starting a war with China over HK wouldn't be wise nor a war with Iran.

There's a spectrum of freedom and it's different everywhere, even between various municipalities with the same state. Context is important too.

Of course is that because they miss the old days of being an imperialist empire? and think they own HK? when the British empire had taken over the region, they killed a lot of innocent Chinese people while trying to defend HK for their own reasoning.

Of course they are they were the ones who started them and organized them with the help of NGOs. No different from the so called Arab Springs.

Trump's border wall isn't even a good solution for the illegal immigration problem. He should end the Drug War and that will solve it by eliminating the cartels who are destroying the nations where the immigrants are refugees from.

We aren't starting a war with China, we are just defending our friends that want Freedom from monsters that shoot people for disagreeing with the govt's terrible policy of censorship.

Look at it as payback. They were treated pretty badly, all the more reason to try and offer a bit of support to them now, don't you think?

We didn't start the protests or have to convince anyone.
China started the protests by being tyrannical and repressive against Liberty.

We will help the protestors though, you can bet on that.

I'd hate to see a war with either, but war with China would be a lot more serious. I think he'd have a lot bigger things to worry about than re-election.

If anyone was treated badly I would assume the innocent Chinese people were the ones who got treated badly who just wanted their territory from the imperialist British.

Still trying to bend me over to support an NGO regime change protest? good luck with that one.

Before Trump was elected I said if he was, that China would be made to pay for doing all it could to cripple the US and other countries economies... This is a CIA op doing very well and will pave the way for the end of communism in China if successful combined with steps which have already forced the devaluation of their currency has them very very vulnerable should Hong Kong see the right to open elections...
I’m not saying that this is make believe in anyway shape or form the strife is real and the tensions are high the situation is ripe for conflict and mass death is likely. Sadly this too may well have to occur for the global embarrassment and pressure which China will endure because of it and therefore also very much part of the plan...
China has enjoyed some success recently and is growing in ways which present a threat to many nations, know that it will not be permitted to continue unchecked for should it not be the stranglehold it would gain over the global economy would be virtually impossible to reverse...
While I agree in most ways the OP wishes for an abrupt end to this situation I’m very much afraid it is only the beginning and that things will only continue to worsen until desired goals are achieved. And if they are not then China will be facing new scenarios this isn’t just going to go away...
