I find it really odd given JE's profile that he's not segregated - officially.

It's weird Cranky, earlier today I heard a news report on MSM while serving Pop's lunch, so wasn't totally paying attention, but pretty sure I heard that JE was on suicide watch, which meant someone checks on him every half hour, huh ? IDK, seems 24 hr. surveillance is warranted at this point. Why even mention that a window of lack of surveillance even exists?

I didn't think such a thing was required to search an inmate in a prison.

It isn't. Inmates and their property can be searched any time, anywhere for any reason.
