Doesn't this POS know that it IS NOT his (nor any US President) job to decide a foreign country's capital. Guess not...

Both sides have been trying for a long time to get the USA to join this discussion.

To quote Machiavelli (and who really doubts Trump prefers Machiavelli's tactics?) :

A Prince is likewise esteemed who is a stanch friend and a thorough foe, that is to say, who without reserve openly declares for one against another, this being always a more advantageous course than to stand neutral. For supposing two of your powerful neighbours come to blows, it must either be that you have, or have not, reason to fear the one who comes off victorious. In either case it will always be well for you to declare yourself, and join in frankly with one side or other. For should you fail to do so you are certain, in the former of the cases put, to become the prey of the victor to the satisfaction and delight of the vanquished, and no reason or circumstance that you may plead will avail to shield or shelter you; for the victor dislikes doubtful friends, and such as will not help him at a pinch; and the vanquished will have nothing to say to you, since you would not share his fortunes sword in hand.

Israel's ownership has been a hot topic for thousands of years, with it being divided at different times into quarters for each religion.

But the position of it being both Israel's capital and simultaneously not its capital is just too tenuous. It create's tension, and tension put the powder in a powder keg.

Once it is settled, the powder goes off, but at least there is no more tension. The powder doesn't just keep building and getting partially set off, again, and again, and again.

Realistically, there is only one side this could have been settled on. Israel's position may not be morally the strongest, but it certainly is tactically and politically the strongest.

It's a bold move that's for sure. I'm not a fan of Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood tough, which makes it hard for me to come to a conclusion what to think.
Ultimately I'm pro Israel and to finally give it recognition. The islamic mess has to be resolved by muslims. Jerusalem belongs to Israel.
I'm just a bit scared. Fear can't be the ultima ratio so.... let's go all in.
I guess
you are quite right

so I guess all those Americans which support Israel cause will not have a problem if one day the native Americans become powerful militarily and decide to retake Their homeland as it's their God-given right. They will not resist the assault because they will be call terrorist like Hamas, instead of freedom fighter. Isn't it sad that the most conservative and patriotic Americans seems to have no problem that their leaders seem to be scared of a small middle east nation call Israel and will basically swear allegiance to protect that particular country even when it does not serve their interest? You may not have ellect him but Netanyahu is your real president and you are Israel bitch.

You are right. It is for congress' to decide.
And they did.

That is right. Congress actually passed a law *requiring* POTUS to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

He is just the first president to abide by it.

are you familiar with Noahide U.S. Public Law 102-14?

it is an American federal law which states that the “Seven Noahide Laws” (Laws from the Jewish Babylonian Talmud) are the principle on which the United States was founded, and that it is the responsibility of America to transmit these “ethical values” to future generation both in the U.S. and World.

We're not scared of Israel, that's asinine. We're their allies. In case you missed it, that "small middle east nation" is surrounded by people who want them dead, for no other reason than they are Jewish.

But, I suppose you're OK with that huh? Jews don't deserve a country in your eyes right? They have a legitimate claim to the land, like it or not. They have an extensive history there, and that's been proven by archaeological records. Were they there before the "Palestinians"? Possibly, possibly not, but they're there now. We'll never know the full truth, and possession is 9/10 of the law. The UN gave them a sliver of land to call home after Hitler tried to exterminate them, with the help of Arabs. Arabs have 99% of the rest of the Middle East. Israel has a right to exist as well. And you don't have a right to say they don't.

Egypt tried (and failed) to take it. The only reason it has not happened again is because WE keep Israel from annihilating anyone who tries.

Personally, I'd love to see us allow Israel to handle the West Bank, and Gaza Strip as they see fit in response to constant attacks. They've literally not known peace since they became a country in 1948.

How would you like to exist on your own land while everyone around you wanted you dead? Not just gone, dead.

It's not a law it's a " commemoration." You could not go into a court of law and base your case on the Talmud.

It is not for Congress to decide, it is for the government of the foreign nation to decide. That said, the United States can put their embassy anywhere they want. As for acknowledging that nation's choice of capitals: diplomats are capable of acknowledging both the People's Republic of China and the Republic of China (Taiwan) while maintaining there is one indivisible China.

It's not wrong by far. The Jerusalem Embassy Act of 1995 was passed to fund and initiate the movement of the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv. Jerusalem is the Capital of Israel . Embassies are located in the host nations capital.
Since 1995 Presidents have been, every six months, signing a waiver delaying the movement of the Embassy.
Pres Trump signed one 6 mos ago to delay it to this time. He moved our embassy to the capital of Israel. That is all that has happened here. The muslims are going nuts over this but it will be them causing trouble not Pres Trump.
Can you imagine if the rest of the world stated they did not like Wash. D.C. as our capital and wanted us to move it to say Omaha Neb.? Would we move it there?
If you are a sovereign nation you choose the location of your capital. No one else!!

This is what all the fuss is about.

The Muslim Dome of the Rock sits right on top of the Second Jewish Temple that was leveled by the Romans in 70 AD. A Muslim legend says that the prophet Mohammed ascended to heaven where the Dome is located. The Jews keep away from this exact location because there are warning signs put up by the Israeli authorities that say the ancient Holy chamber of the Temple may be near.

Second Jewish Temple

Modern day site with Dome of the Rock

I find it strange that this photo taken sometime between 1900 and 1920 reveals a sinister face in the rock that sits under the dome. The image appears as a face due to the Pareidolia effect.

Here’s an another example of a Pareidolia effect. It’s the Face on Mars in the Cydonia region.

Can anyone explain to me why ever in the world Trump chose this particular moment in history to recognize Jerusalem as the Capital?

I mean, honestly, how is this in any way in the best interest of the US? All it does is antagonize the Muslims in the ME and all to no particular purpose. Of all the problems in the world today, POTUS addresses this and its a non-problem except now it is of his own making.

Really weirdly stupid blunder in my opinion.

# the Muslims in the Middle East if something so inert sends them to violence. If someone in another country up and decided that Washington DC was no longer our Capitol and said hey we recognize Detroit, Michigan as the American Capitol would you riot and murder people? I highly doubt it.

Jerusalem is Israel's "Capital". Always has been... Always will be. No snowflake, "educated" liberal will/can change that. People argue that there is no "god". But yet they get all involved with "Jerusalem" and the "Jews". It was already written,.. "I will make you a burden to the nations". I laugh, when the libs hate on Israel. But yet? They're doing everything God, said they'd do. Pres. D. Trump "bucked" the "democratic/majority, "educated".. of the globe/world. I'm all for it! This is some man, being "made in God's image".. AMAZINGLY a good decision! Just awesome! And a breath of fresh air! In a world being run by boys, girls and women. God bless our President, Donald Trump. God bless Israel and the Republic of The United States! Amen!

long standing convention you say and who made this convention because officially its been the capital of israel since they declared it so in 1980 37 years ago their government is located there the u.s. congress voted to recognize voted in 1995 to officially acknowledge jerusalem as israel's capitol but clinton ,bush, and obama signed waivers to say they were not going along with it.
this is more non news why because they making it sound like israel just snatched this town no jordan lost this town in 1967 .the israelis have been using this town as their capitol for 37 years and its a valid risk for our ambassador to have to take a trip to Jerusalem. everytime he has to meet with their gov

Just a bit more on this, Jerusalem is directly mentioned 811 times in the KJV Bible and 0 times in the Quran, shows how sacred the site was/is they also face their butts to it to pray toward the black stone in Mecca the last idol kept from the pagan idols Mohammad didn`t destroy, the supposed farthest Mosque the false prophet Mohammad said he went off into heaven (to barter down how many times they are to repeat their prayers) riding a flying donkey (that only he saw himself, its a miracle!), many believe is on the Temple mount others don`t.

So we are still left with the abomination on the Jewish holy site and Gods Temple in Jerusalem where it used to be but not forever, the Dome of the Rock a Temple to Allah who isn`t God, one hint on who Allah is, is the fallen Angel who wanted to be "like" the most high and dethrone God and he has tricked 1.8 billion into worshiping him and bowing down to a black stone 5 times a day world wide, the death cult Islam which will eventually be defeated.

Interesting times we live in for sure.

What a stupid thing to do .

Tearing up long-standing convention, President Trump has announced that the US now recognises Jerusalem as Israel's capital. Mr Trump described the move as "a long overdue step" to advance the Middle East peace process and work towards a lasting agreement.
www.bbc.co.uk...

If there's one thing it won't do that's bring peace to the Middle East.
Russia is a red herring , we should be looking at Tel Aviv.

Speaking at the White House, Mr Trump said he had "judged this course of action to be in the best interests of the United States of America, and the pursuit of peace between Israel and the Palestinians".

If he believes that then he really does live in his own little world.

Dude... Jerusalem is IN Israel. It is already a city of Israel. So why should it upset people if say the U.S. declared New York our new Capitol?

Jerusalem is already claimed as part of Israel so what’s the difference if it’s just a normal city or the Capitol city?

I am not debating that prima facie. What does it mean when a law is passed in a constitutional republic with representation of the people?
It follows that such a law can be adopted by the representatives without the danger of political backlash, right? Without the danger of having to explain. Without the danger of being kicked out of office. Right?

So, if such a law is on the books, it follows that a majority support in a representative democratic republic for doing what the law (not resolution) says, yes? And as you will know, it has the support of both chambers of congress .....

So, what this beings into view, is simply doing what the law says. ...

That sight is what I am arguing!

That being said, as towards your President and foreign policy .... well, it is a matter of view. And we have to concede to the fact that Presidents today have .. eh ... inherited all the usurpations and smart moves of their predecessors. In comparison, the first presidents were impotent compared to today. ;-)
The senate is quite aware of the fact it has lost ground.
"However, the state of almost constant crisis that the Cold War spawned eventually resulted in the vast expansion of presidential authority over foreign policy. Since the 1960s, the committee has sought to redress this imbalance of powers."

We could add, the state of perpetual war since the war on terror started. ....
Or to revert back to imagery:
If your oneliner was truly describing the status quo: what the hell did John Mccain do in Syria?

You cannot be that naive surely? Do you really only get your Information from the MSM. Israel is a nuclear power with one of the most advance army in the world. It also have the backing of the most advance army in the world in The USA. Plus the support of most NATO state. It does not fear any Arab state. Most Arab state actually fear Israel as can be clearly seen when they attacked Syrian and Lebanon based target with the two countries army unable to do anything about it.Plus most Arab state could not give two figs about the Palestinians. They in fact want the Palestinians gone. This is why you do not see much outrage about the continued extermination of the Palestinians from the Arab Government. They give lip service to the Palestinians cause just for domestic consumption as the so called Arab street support the Palestinians. The Saudis and Egypt have both now been on friendly term with Israel for a long time. If you really believes that Jews deserve a Homeland then you would also support the Palestinians cause as they are a Semite people too and genetically brothers of the Israeli Jews. As someone once said the Palestinians are the Jews who stayed at home.
