All Trump has to do is sign an EO neutralizing the highly illegal Individual Mandate, and people can make the choice to opt out of this sinking ship that is crony socialized healthcare.

He can't do that. He did this because a court already ruled these subsidies illegal because Obama instituted them illegally through EO in the first place.

All Trump did is backtrack something that should never have begun, a court even said so.

Yes, it appears he lied, along with many that parroted the same line.

He should have stuck with the single-payer aspect. But on the other hand he did do us a service by showing us the Right Wing plan was a disaster waiting to happen. Now even many on the Right are calling for a SP or UHC plan.

That is a huge plus.

He did no one a service. Objective people know dems and repubs want to mark us as their property. Keeping up this crap club mentality is why we have this problem.

Again he did no one a service....except the status quo.

He did no one a favor.

I disagree.

He has proven that the Right Wing idea of an individual mandate does not work and it does not improve healthcare.

It only increases profit motive and drives prices higher.

It is a favor to us if we are willing to learn from that mistake and move on to better systems, including a SP or UHC plan.

So to show us that there are people who only care about money Obama is willing to pass the ACA and cause untold numbers of deaths and financial problems ?

If true, he is dumber than I could have ever imagined.

And what, you think health insurance costs are magically going to go down? At the time of the crash, 25% of housing foreclosures were due to health care costs that people couldn't pay. If you're that north of 60 guy in the OP, you NEED health care, you're not going to pay less without Obamacare. The only bright spot out of this is when it fails hopefully people can wake up to the fact that single payer is the only way to limit costs.

Insurance companies are a racket.

The deductibles are what really kill the ACA. CSR should be the model of what every deductible should be with the ACA. It's not very fair to those who make even moderate incomes. The real fun happens when you don't get any premium subsidy and a 7,000 per person deductible. No one should have to pay so much of their income just for healthcare. It's just not right.

We need to have healthcare everyone can afford and use. Neither side has got that down.

Yes..ObamaCare has several levels of "pain". People who earn enough for subsidies, but not enough for the low CSR $500 deductible, complain of what you're describing. The insanely high deductible. What's even nuttier, is that the ObamaCare LAW dictates that the deductible INCREASES every year. In 2018, it goes up to $7,450 per person!

Here in Illinois, ObamaCare is in such bad shape that 40% of the doctors no longer accept ObamaCare patients... Premiums are going up 43% in 2018...And, there is only 2 reputable health insurance companies... Blue Cross and Cigna.

Obama didn't just tell "white" lies... They were almost criminal. But Democrats still think ObamaCare is in pretty good shape. Just a few "tweaks" are needed. The ACA slipped into critical condtion at the end of 2015, and is now seeking to stay on indefinite life-support...to maintain its comatose state. The private insurance aspect of ObamaCare has to GO!

Insurance co's pay the price of medical cost and can keep 20% for profits.

It is a combo of the medical industry costing way way too much and insurance co's keeping way too much %20 profit is alot of $$$$$$$$.

We need to let the insurance market crash so that people can wake up and see that the cost of health care will come tumbling down with it. Its the insurance companies that inflate costs. Why would people think government intervention could ever help? It never does. If ObamaCare is bad, imagine how tyrannical a full-blown single payer system would be.

ObamaCare is bad for many reasons, but to your point, the government would have to fill the void for a time, after the private health insurance market crashes.

Single-Payer would not have insurance companies in the mix. That would be a big savings right off the bat.

What's preferable is a Medicaid/Medicare/Private Health Insurance system for America...that doesn't restrict who and who can not enroll in each. Everyone should have those 3 choices, IMO.

Liberals defend ObamaCare because its named after the President they voted for. Only a few of them (or anyone else)even remotely understand what's in the 17,000 pages of rules, counter-rules, adjusted rules, etc..

I work with various aspects of the ACA and how it interfaces with people. But still, every week brings a new surprise. In our industry forum, some of the ObamaScrew horror stories from individuals and families are worse than the Halloween movies.

this is part of the reason Trump used an EO to allow insurance companies to be able to sell across state lines, effectively ending monopolies.

The most important aspect of that particular part of the E.O. last Thursday, was to enable people to buy the plan that they want.

Certainly, by buying into an Association, you will be in a nationwide risk-pool, but the biggest savings will come from not having to pay for benefits you'll (most likely) never use.

Unless a 60 year-old man plans on dating younger women, visiting from foreign countries, that man probably doesn't want to pay $80 a month for maternity. With health insurance piggy-backing off of an association, he will not have to.

Seems like they have this sort of thing solved in Canada for about 1/2 the cost plus Canada has a better life expectancy.

.

If we could get Canada's system, and keep the SPEED of treatment you find here, that would be the best of both worlds.

People act like what we had pre ACA was some sort of Eden. It's not somewhere I wish to go back to. Dollar Limits and pre-existing conditions were horrible ideas for those who get really sick and are in the most need of health insurance.

I'm not a great fan of the ACA , it has glaring faults, but it had some ideas that should stick around. Going back to the pre ACA Insurance isn't something I yearn for. The levels of coverage back then weren't very good for some plans should you actually get really sick.

Healthcare in the USA shouldn't be like this beheamoth that eats almost 20% of our GDP and income. Something has gone very wrong with our costs for Healthcare in America.

That's why I've said since 2015 that the best system for the USA would consist of Government and Private. Let each individual choose which one he/she wants to buy into. Those who make too little for enrolling in Medicare, or applying for a Private plan, can enroll in Medicaid.

Our system was, and still is designed to pay into and not to take out of.

The US medical system is designed for one thing-make money and if sick people get taken care of, that is a side effect.

You boiled it down nicely, Seasonal. Capitalism and Profits are KING in America. All else is a lower priority. Defense is even above healthcare on the priority list.

Yep, trumpcare is really going to hurt.

Not if he can get the last few health insurance companies to throw in the towel. Then, ObamaCare will be 100% Medicaid for the poor and the sick.

You say that like that would be a good solution. Every American should have decent, affordable to their income healthcare. We need to do better than Obamacare and better than the so far proposed Trumpcare. Even he hasn't truly signed off on the Republican plan.

Our lazy selfish Congress needs PRESSURE in order to get things done. You'd think that watching ObamaCare deteriorate for the past 4 years would have made Repeal-Replace a no-brainer this Summer.

But apparently that wasn't enough PRESSURE. So President Trump is applying more, by bringing ObamaCare right to the edge of extinction.

When the country begins having counties where NO ObamaCare coverage will be available...Congress will act. "Proactive" is a word that is not in their dictionary.

The union I am a part of has our own insurance company that we pay out of our package. It is stupid expensive. We pay almost $7 an hour into our insurance. The upside is that we don't have to really deal with the ignorance. We just are forced to pay for an over priced product that keeps getting worse.

Healthcare is a complete disaster and as long as big business keeps making the laws, then it is going to stay a complete disaster.

You pay $55@DAY for your health insurance at work? Wow. Sounds like someone (Company or Union) is taking a cut. In 2019 the 40% ObamaCare health insurance excise tax kicks in on companies that have plans like yours. That will bump the cost up by 40% instantly on 1.1.2019, unless ObamaCare is repealed, or President Trump convinces Congress to delay it indefinitely.

Obamacare is screwed up. If you work hard and try to get ahead, it sucks you down to the poverty level to get insurance. Obamacare needs to be replaced with a decent system. I would prefer that we had socialized medicine like in Europe, but evidently that will never happen.
