they can be insufferably arrogant about their beliefs

So can Christians!
The point is their religious belief or lack thereof have nothing to do with the attitude. It's the person themselves. You know what they say about assuming?

I think you need to go back and read my post again. We don't disagree, except you have apparently taken umbrage with what you think is a blanket condemnation of all atheists.

Which is ironic, considering.

Anyway, I'm not sufficiently invested or interested in this to spend more energy bickering about it, readers can make up their own minds (and they always do).

So these grades of hers weren't from exams and coursework? They were just arbitrary numbers based on whether the teacher likes a student?

that's no way to run an education system.

I guess they felt Jesus would approve.

It's biology. The man's sperms drill into the female brain and leave the genetic material there forever.

WTF did you just say???

Men's sperm drills into the female brain???

Oh please show me where you got that information from and why you think that???

Or even just explain why sperm is drilling into someone's brain to start with and how the hell that would even be possible.

Go enlighten your own ignorance. I will give you one hint, there was a thread this year all about it.

And the whole idea was shown to be an unscientific load of horse#.

Grades are based on merit, not "social standards".

Agreed! Now if this same principle would be applied to our colleges and those who promote privilege based on race, this country might just start to dig itself out the political/religious hole we find ourselves trying to constantly dig ourselves out of?

We live in the era of "Fake News". Even if the source is valid, if you don't agree with it, it's fake.

I understand your point. I know you agree with me. I'm just saying don't jump to conclusions just because she's an atheist. That's all.

I definitely don't think it is okay for someone's religious beliefs (or lack thereof) to influence how a teacher grades their student in a public school. That being said, I would also support investigating this story further to make sure that things happened the way the student said. It certainly could have, and it should be easy enough to prove.

Grades aren't stars and flags or like "likes" on facebook.

This stinks of social engineering. Just being rewarded for saying what those in authority want you to say.

That's what it seems like doesn't it?
They always used to say school was a brain washing factory, I guess they may almost actually be such now.

It's definitely worth following - I do suppose the student could have got "senioritis" and slacked off hard. Seen it happen, but usually to kids who were pushed more by their parents than anything and were ostracized nerds. She seemed pretty active in high school culture, but, anything can happen.

Until the school responds, we can only speculate. They're doing a poor job of defending themselves through silence.

It's been going on for much longer than this recent Fake News issue though. Although that has made it so much worse. But we've always had this happening and it seems our advanced communications technology and other social structures have made some of it worse still.

But you're right in many ways. Lately it's gotten really really bad. But I can't blame just the fact that there are lies being pushed on people. That's always happened. But there are ways of weeding through false information usually that removes a lot of the negative effects it has. But we don't seem to do that anymore.

Like you said. We aren't looking for what is correct anymore. Just what we personally agree with. It's like nobody cares about carrying around a head full of incorrect information anymore. They're fine with it being wrong as long as it suits their beliefs. That's not good. That's like Dark Ages Mentality sh*t right there. We don't separate what is fact from what is fiction and think they both can apply equally because we believe it so. But that isn't how it works. What the hell happened to us???

I can't disagree with your first point. I just might call it propaganda, which has and always will exist. Now it has a whole new place that it can reproduce like a virus, infecting more psyches faster than ever.

Maybe "Fake News" is like a new antigen to the propaganda virus, allowing it to prevent "disinfection" by facts.

My mind makes this school anachronistic. And it's a scary thought that I might be totally wrong and this is a step towards a "New Normal".

ETA:
I wish I knew what happened. It seems recent, but I forget I am 15+ years out of high school. A lot of folks in this thread who grew up in the bible belt don't seem too surprised, so I think geography has a lot to do with this case. I didn't know Colorado to be so religious until now. It must be to counter all the New Agers that moved there in the 70's/80's

I don't even know what to say about not only this school and this student but some of the stuff people claim in this thread.

Sperm drilling into the brains of women?? I mean that is like some horrible Low Budget Porn/Horror Movie or something.

We are so doomed as a nation if we are teaching people stuff like this. I don't even know how anyone would think that would happen. How could sperm get into anyone's head in the first place??? I don't care how many BJ's a person gives that just isn't how it works. OMG.

Why on earth are we trying to raise up generations of people with false information all the time??? How is that in any way going to benefit anyone??? It makes no sense. We are dooming ourselves as a species.

But fake news is good when it is against Trump or Christians or guns, basically anything promoting your progressive bias. Right?

Nope, they just showed alternative ways for the male sexual partners DNA to be retained by the female, while confirming that the female can retain the DNA of their male partners.

I don't recall buying any lies because they fit my paradigm.

And on a different note: Why do you think this student should have just fallen in line? Pretty weak choice, if you ask me.

Because as an atheist they do not want religion discussed openly in front of them so they should do the same, not express their atheism in a public school where they know those around them are not of the same belief. It is common sense.

Her revealing her atheism was a response to religious teachers/faculty being overzealous and dragging religion into the school in the first place.

I guess she could have just went up the ladder, which I am sure would have went just as well in a district that has this going on to start.

So, if you're being pushed around, you have no right to push back?
