Aside from the shooting spree, this guy could've been any number of leftists I know personally.

Seriously? What kind of leftists do you hang out with? Republicans have been involved in mass shootings before but I don't think of all Republicans that way.

The shooter was a Sanders supporter, but Bernie strongly condemned his actions.

Seriously.
The crap on his Facebook page is practically identical to what's on some leftist's FB pages I know personally.

I read his FB, I would have unfollowed or defriended him mid-2014.

I can't stand people like that.

Perhaps social media played a role in his radicalization, politically-speaking.

With sites like FB, you can surround yourself with only the people and content that will reinforce your views and block anything else that does not. You can create your own echo chamber and without people around you to bring you back to reason, you can create people like this.

Well said. I remember a discussion in here a few months ago where a user was asking for a "mute" function where they would just not see another member's posts. As I recall, most of the replies were that it would probably just be abused so you could not see posts from people who disagree with you, creating a de-facto echo chamber of this site. At least here, as is, you will be presented with opposing views. Not that you're forced to read them, but they're there.

Edit: rhetorical "you", not talking about you in particular.

In one particular case, it's a family member. 'THEY' have been 'unfriended' a couple of times since the election...but that, in and of itself, opens up a big can o' worms...with familial repercussions.

I hate FB.

Get rid of it. I got rid of mine years ago. I never miss it.

My point was just how nice it would be to get some accurate reporting because the reporters on scene have a clue and know what to ask. They don't have to be experts.

Just because they are ignorant of some aspects and do not know exactly what to ask, does not mean their reporting is purposefully inaccurate.

They report what they know or hear at the time and will correct themselves as needed.

If we want the media to give us info and updates as things progress in this world of instant gratification, we have to be reasonable and understand that they will get some things wrong and they will correct it once new info is provided.

When does the cycle end, then? "An eye for an eye" leaves the whole world blind.

When the people that follow these parties learn to respect each other and compromise on the big issues.

My original career was replaced by a computer.

But you blame the dems? Sorry but with a name like the redneck you should be able to deal with some honesty.

A hollow point 223 round will blow a hole the size of a softball into a coyote if the bullet hits a bone and fragments. I hope he makes it, hopefully he got to the trauma center in time. Getting hit with a high velocity expanding point rifle round is a lot different than getting hit with a handgun round.

Another member posted that CNN said it was an AK variant. That would mean it would most likely be a 7.62 round.

Any confirmation on the weapon used?

There are at least as many AK variants chambered for 5.45x39 as there are 7.62x39, there are even some chambered in the 5.56x45 Nato - but realistically, your average person might see wood furniture and think AK.

I didn't mean they were being purposefully inaccurate. Just ignorant, most of the time. And I for one can wait for details like what gun was used, there really is no reason whatsoever for them to speculate about that. If they don't know what kind of rifle was used, just say it was a rifle or a long gun and leave it at that until someone can provide accurate info. Why is that so much to ask?

Some pretty harrowing accounts of what happened from the Congressmen and Senators there. It sounds like a set of very fortunate circumstances that stopped a lot of deaths, from the gate being locked to block the gunman from getting access to the field, to the hale of bullets that missed Scalise whilst he was lying on the ground in the line of fire, to the route round the fence taking the gunman into the Capital police... and finally, of course, the gunman not being a great shot.

I think security costs are going to go up after this - because next time they may not be so lucky.

I'm just amazed anyone on the left feels that strongly about anything political.

You have got to be kidding me. Where the hell have you been? Did you somehow miss all the rioting, looting and protesting going on since the election?
Hint : It wasn't the Republicans doing it.

Its been going strong weekly for over a year since before i sat back up and took note how insane everyone going this decade.

I'm watching that presser with the "managers" of the baseball teams. He gave a lot more detail into the shooting. Did i hear right that the officer ran toward the shooter telling him to drop the pistol and then shot him. I think he meant to say rifle.

So brave of him to rush the shooter. He spoke of protecting his son Jack by having him hide under a car. Just so proud of those officers for stopping the potential massacre.

It also appears that either the shooter was a really bad shot or he wasn't shooting to kill. Probably just not a good shot, lucky for them.

Unless we have ever been in a firefight with bullets heading straight at us, we don't have a clue what our body will do that our minds say we should not. If it was the 1st time to fire at people ,and being fired back upon was not part of the plan A, he was probably going nuts not able to focus.

I unfollow anyone who posts too much political crap. Doesn't matter their party or politics.

I am fine with the occasional political post. It's the obsessive behavior that bothers me.

While we all may disagree with one another very passionately, I would never want to put up a wall between myself and those that despise me for my political beliefs.

Spirited debate makes us challenge what we know and believe.

I expect we will find out that this man created his own echo chamber and was rarely, if ever, challenged on what he believed.

The scariest thing about this guy's writings is it's not reptillians and black helicopters...It's basically personal extrapolations on everyday CNN and MSNBC panel discussions.

Stuff millions are being spoon-fed every night.

Excellent observation!

The rabble rousers of the Left wing media have got some explaining to do.

It's bizarre.
You post one positive thing about Trump...and they feel the need to immediately barrage your page with half a dozen anti-Trump hate posts.
It's like they're on a mission.
