The police chief and FBI agent JUST SAID at the press conference that they would NOT comment on the identity of the shooter.

Just woke up to this.

The FBI is being extremely close-lipped at this point. Typically that means they are taking it extremely seriously.

This is, so far, one lone lunatic, from reports a political loon on the left, but still one lone loon. It's not a political civil war... yet. But this thread alone convinces me that such is building. A US Congressman was shot. Yet we have people almost applauding the shooter because he seemingly targeted one party over another. We have people talking about skin color. We have people indicating Scalise deserved it because he was against further gun control. What?

Really?

Some people should be ashamed of themselves, but sadly they won't be. The anger in this country is growing unabated. It's not over gun control, skin color, Trump, Republicans... those are excuses. Hate needs no excuses to exist.

I will withhold judgement on the motives of the shooter and potential implications until more information comes to light. Another poster (Grambler?) was absolutely correct when he referenced Dylan Roof as not representative of the right, and thus this loon is not automatically representative of the left.

My prayers to Representative Scalise, the security detail, the other Congressmen, and all their families. My hopes that whoever did this be punished to the full extent of the law, including, if applicable, capitol punushment.
