Something tells me that this was more about showing America what's up! This is the type of force you are up against if you choose to rebel against the government. This heavily armed force of 200 officers and National Guardsmen moved into what was left of the NoDAPL protest camp in North Dakota yesterday to arrest the 50 people who remained after the eviction time had passed.

Only 50 unarmed protesters left just sitting around in the camp, not chanting anti-American rage, not throwing rocks and bottles, not starting fires, not spitting on law enforcement, or calling for assassinations! Just sitting there refusing to leave after they had been evicted.

So be it, they should get arrested, but is this overkill, or is it just me? All this at the expense of the taxpayer, and for what? I'll tell you what... to set an example. This is the force you will deal with if you ever think you can rise up against the government!

Edit to Add: Especially love the image of the 80 year old elderly woman being escorted out in handcuffs. Ya gotta laugh at this show of force for these people. She had to be a major threat!

No, it's not "just you."

That is the exact message being communicated.

If I'm not mistaken, the ride gets bumpier from here...

If we've learned anything from the Bundy's.

No one evicts you if you have guns.

Yep. It was like using a stick of dynamite to kill a fly. But like you said, this was probably more of a "display of force"... a deterrent to groups who are considering breaking U.S. law.

I'll only say this much. While the optics are bad on this, I also heard the statement from the lady representing the protesters. They set this up to look as bad as possible on their end too. If you don't think they orchestrated the leftovers and holdouts as carefully as possible, then you're also being naive.

There are far more defiant ones than just the 50 or so they left and they chose the elderly 80 year old on purpose to create just the kind of image you are seeing.

You're being manipulated on both ends here.

BTW? Who left behind more TRASH to be cleaned up?

I can see why you would see it as being overkill and I have to agree.

At the same time, consider recent issues, I figured it was more of a statement of, "You will be moved".

Another thing to consider is that whatever else, they had to be moved. There was a serious risk to their life and limb from seasonal flooding not to mention the increasing health hazard they posed from their encampment that has to be cleaned out before the floods wash all the detritus down river.

One way or another it all had to be moved and yesterday.

Very sad. This should not be happening.

This will lead to something I'd like to call "asymmetrical protests", you know flash mobs, sabotage....
And this will probably make history as the most expensive pipeline ever built. Would have been a lot easier and cheaper to make a for everybody acceptable compromise before they started building.

But then what do all these heavy armed troops do while the blm front stays so quiet? No riots from the Latinos because of the deportation crack down... Send them to clear out 50 protesters and add some oil to the almost burned down fire.

No matter how I look at it, smart move through and through!
Whoever gave those orders, great job!

You are seriously worried about trash cleanup?

They could have left without incident.
But they decided to ignore the eviction order.
Oh well.

Yea, kind of hypocritical for those protesting against the destruction of the environment to leave tons of trash behind! Don't ya think?

Considering the "trash" in question is improperly disposed of feces ... yes. It's about to get washed into the local watershed as raw, unprocessed sewage and head on downstream.

Something needed to be done, but that's certainly bad visually. There is more to the story though.

LINK

North Dakota originally offered protesters a carrot. If they agreed to leave peacefully, they would receive a hotel room and bus ticket to anywhere in the U.S. As of Wednesday night, none had taken it. They also offered a courtesy or ‘ceremonial arrest’ for anyone needing a picture for their Facebook page. Again, no takers.

A 17-year-old girl and 7-year-boy old were burned after protesters set fire to the last remnants of the camp. They both required medical attention and one was air lifted to Minneapolis because her injuries were severe.

No child should have ever been there
Parenting at it's worst.

Now the cleanup efforts begin. The camps span more than 1,000 acres, which had been, according to state officials, sensitive wildlife habitat. Now, because of an early thaw and thousands of “water protectors” it is a wet, muddy cesspool of human waste and hazardous fuels after protesters turned the native grassland into a dumping ground.

According to the Col John Henderson of the US Army Corp of Engineers, crews have already removed some 250 truckloads of trash, but his agency plans to spend upwards to $1.2 million of taxpayer money to rehabilitate the area.

"To ensure that none of this garbage and waste and debris and structures and vehicles ended up in the reservoir. That would be an absolute environmental catastrophe,” Henderson said.

Sounds out of control to me and dangerous to those there, not to mention the destruction to the environment they falsely claim to care about.

Still though, it could have been handled better minus the National Guard. There is likely more to this though. Perhaps they were dealing with gunfire and the violent radicals who always plague protests?

I think the trash left can easily be cleaned. Not like the leaks of this pipeline. There was already at least one.

A few more times and maybe people will get the point. I don't care if they send in law enforcement, military, or pissed off locals, when you overstay your allotted time, it's time to get out. If you don't listen, you'll be forced out. We'll see what happens to the wannabe martyrs who try this next.

So you're volunteering to go clean up the human waste? Go get it!
