Germany was too far behind..they where working on it but did not have the infrastructure and money to make atomic weapons..it cost over 2 billion to develop the Manhattan project.
I thought we stole German scientists to make ours?? But reguardless it's an interesting question.

That's operation paperclip, and it was Einstein and Oppenheimer that were the true masterminds of the bomb.

Yes von Braun..I think it was the German's that discovered the potential from splitting the atom no?
Von Braun was the rocket guy, he designed the missiles to carry the loads.

Didn't einstine flee the nazis?? That means he started in their clutches. It isn't hard to imagaine the alternative reality that saw Germany win the war. Also saw Einstein stuck in Germany.

wwi we joined months before the end, in ww2 we waited 2 years due to isolationist sentiment and anti-war protests, korea was started between themselves(we just helped the favorable side), vietnam was fought for france and the dutch, iraq 1 was fought for kuwait and we never set foot in most cities, kosovo war was fought because europe asked us to intervene, afghanistan was mostly fought by rebel war lords and US air power, iraq 2 was an exception, libya and syria were initiated by europe and we took over later on and we barely put boots on the ground either time, with isis we are barely doing any real fighting against.
most conflicts since ww2 we have used air power and blitz tactics or special ops backed with air support, we americans rarely actually risk our necks physically in conflict as much as possible.

Einstein didn't flee, he was persecuted because his beliefs went against the reich's. He left on his own accord.
Of all the WW2 names, Von Braun stands out simply because of his breakthroughs in rocket tech. Without him we literally wouldn't have gone to the moon!

Didn't he sneak out?? Or did he jump ship early enough?
I seem to remember it was a close run thing.
My Einstein is rusty lol

What was the state of human rights and intelligence at that period?
Total crap lol...
Well maybe not intelligence , but 1950's America wasn't exactly known for its tolerance of different cultures lol.
Yet, it is still known as "The Greatest Generation".... why? Look at the sacrifices made by Americans in the 40's. How many of us died to free Europe?
We are but a shadow of what THEY were.

well lets think about how rome, macedonia, mongolia, russia, the US and canada got so big.
much less people lived in all these places than in the world in 1945 and the targets were mostly far less advanced and not used to war.
less people = easier conquest
but the biggest reason is that americans are mostly cowards that hate fighting and look for the easiest way to benefit off others, that's why we put so much focus on air and sea power, on drones, missiles, on space, technology, etc.
we have always stayed at a distance from combat and rarely get into full scale wars
Lol we love to fight...
We love to fight soooo much we don't nuke people so we can..
I don't think it is that easy to push that nuke button.

Said every generation ever.. about its preceding generation.
