By age 40 most people I know have held a job. In fact, Burn is the only person, I know of, who # 1 started working at 40
#2 accumulated vast personal wealth with such a late start #3 didn't start a business, invent something new and useful or find oil on the family home stead.
The only other way would be theft or inheritance.

Are you also including the land purchase?

I meant average for the property on the water.

But regardless, the average senator's pay is almost 200K a year. You can easily get a loan for 600k or more.

Doesn't take being the 1% to accomplish what he did. Hell I have a house valued close to that and I'm nowhere near the 1%.

Maybe his timing for this purchase could have been better, verse a few months before the biggest election possibly ever in the US...

That I would agree with

Really?

So the guy buys an AVERAGE priced house in that market and suddenly he's all bad and stuff?

Jesus, forgive him for buying a house, I didn't know that automatically made you a shill.

Some people, complain about anything or anybody for some partisan kicks.

What a non story.

The average price of a home in Vermont is 200k.

www.zillow.com...

You just need to admit he is in the one percent.

You're missing the point of what he said. WATERFRONT averages 2-3 times non-waterfront average. Bernie paid average for the waterfront market. You think that's bad, take a look at what a waterfront mobile home on one of the islands costs you in Florida.

I'm not saying he overpaid for the house or land.
He just bought a house 99% of Americans could not afford. The vary 99% he was supposed to relate to.

With everything going on with US politics, it just leaves a bad taste... They supposedly are working 'for the people', but the "people" for the most part, are struggling all over this country, while our politicians live a very comfortable life.. I wish a man of the people, like Bernie, would have thought first before this purchase..

His choice of house is not what I do or do not relate to. If you can afford to buy something, buy it. What do I care, I'm not living there.

I've been saying for years, drop the average pay of all Senators and Congressmen/women to the average US worker wage.

Watch how fast income inequality would disappear then.

I can't imagine that people would expect somebody to live in squalor just because they don't support the Oligarchy that America has become.

So living in anything less than a $600,000 summer home is 'squalor'?

Can I also add on Term Limits (two times max) to all of Congress?

One doesn't have to live under the bridge with the hobos to get the gist of issues they face. The ability to empathize is either there, or it isn't.

How does living in a 600K home equal out to being the 1%?

Again, it's kind of faux outrage. The man bought reasonably priced water front property with money he was paid by the Fed Gov for his work as a Senator.

Unless he got it through some awfully, let's say sketchy circumstances, there's no reason to complain about this at all.

Other than what was mentioned - bad timing.

Your hatred of the United States is clouding your judgment and making it impossible for you to effectively debate.
Beside that, don't you have some toilets to install or did you just take the deposit and then not do the job?
I'm certain you were wronged in some way and deserve the money, right?

Some people view him as a parasite.
Living off of tax dollars.
Owns a 'summer home'.

Some of the little peons that actually earn something other than tax dollars don't own their own home because they don't get a 'living wage' that we heard so much about from his type.

His 'type' is a hypocrite.

So policemen and women are parasites for living off of tax dollars?
Fire departments are parasites too?

This part is not directed at you Butcher.
What has being a socialist got to do with buying a house anyways?
Just more ignorance of what socialism is.

Firemen and policemen actually provide something of value for those tax dollars... big difference between these type of civil servants and a politician.

Hmm your founding fathers felt differently about that.
That's why they made congress one of the 3 focal points of life in the United States.

They also lived in plush houses while claiming to defend the common man.

This... Is bull#... and you know it.
