Not to piss on your chips; a few investigative journalists, bloggers and research students will have already done this. With there being no whispers (yet), I suspect the key is for something else and a small audience.

There'd be a rush on to be the first to break the news. Everyone would want to be "the one who broke the Snowden file" for the fame and the ability to dictate the narrative.

I could be wrong. In that scenario, we could expect a media rush of articles and hullabaloo.

Instead, the key seems specifically aimed at one or more persons who will know what it means. It could be file access only to those handful of journalists he's on record as trusting.

Good luck in having a go at it though. If you don't try, you'll never know and it'd be quite a moment to have eyes on access to explosive documents.

The only ones having a go with this are in the dark web and not advertising it. This is playing with fire.

If he produces something tangible then his book would be worth buy theoretically.

Your point of view may be right, but I believe that the info would take a while to come to light (unless WikiLeaks uploads them) because the journalists for example would have to go through the whole archive to find the "ground breaking" info.

If this is the actual key and the above is true, we could have access to all the data that is not at public light yet, from which an independent investigation can then be done.

The thing I don't understand is, if Snowden has such hidden knowledge and secrets regarding matters of national security, how come he is allowed to tweet so freely?

I mean, twitter has been caught red handed deleting tweets from trump even censoring them.
How did snowden even get the chance to tweet said key?

They could have easily done something about it.
Like others have said, Snowden is the prime example of controlled opposition.

And this whole show before "releasing " a new leak.

Its like in those movies, where the enemy keeps talking so that the hero uses the time to kick his ass.
