Agreed.

back in the 50's most families had a stay-at-home mother. One income was good for the family. I don't think Trump plans on reversing civil rights or making gas 10 cents a gallon.

I think Trump is looking at having jobs in America again that pay 60, 70, 80 thousand a year. Not perpetuating a service industry and having a country of bag boys and barristas.

A fantastic question to illustrate the point!

I eagerly await the responses.

And how is he going to force private companies to move manufacturing back to America? How is Trump going to force PRIVATE companies to pay people more?

We don't just need more jobs...

We need jobs that pay more....

Jobs that keep up with inflation....

In the 50's there was more manufacturing in America. there were more companies and plants and jobs in America.

While the Bernie supporters and socialists cry for higher minimum wage, others are looking at bring back companies and jobs that paid 60, 70, 80 thousand a year.

But please, ignore a 80 thousand/ year job but be proud that some day, you'll be making 14.50/hour.

By not having such high tax rates for one.

Why force when companies would gladly come back if there's a tax incentive?

Ah, the politics of division. You can't just say that the USA was doing pretty damn good back then, but we could have done a lot better for EVERYBODY. You have to divide us along racial and sexual lines. gotcha

Please tell me how to convince a private company to bring manufacturing back to the USA?

And no, lowering corporate taxes won't bring them back to the USA when their labor costs go up 10 times. What incentive does a company have to "bring jobs back to the USA" when someone in China will do the same job for $1/hr compared to an American who wants at least $10/hr?

Trump wants to charge higher tariffs on goods made outside the US.

It would be in a companies best interest to start manufacturing inside the US again.

You hit the nail right on the head. A false narrative has been promoted to make it appear that we can never regain the top dog status in the world again, economically. This just isn't the case. But it will take a national effort. I believe that we have people among us that want to see us fail....even Americans here at ATS

The idea that black people had it better back then is highly subjective. Were they perhaps more financially viable and less prone to single mother's? Perhaps.

At the same time the thought of being black, gay, or anything but a white person back then is terrifying. I'd rather not get lynched for pissing in the wrong bathroom, thanks. No freaking thanks. I am extremely happy I was born a white man. I never get funny looks, it's pretty freaking hard to insult me (calling me a cracker is basically calling me your boss/delicious crunchy snack - never sure on the etymology, you dummies), no one talks down to me, cops LOVE me (I have like 3 tickets and I've been pulled over probably 5 times within the last year alone), I can go on...

Now can we call out the complete absurdity in the argument that Trump means he wants America lynching n-words and gays? He's talking about economic prosperity, building infrastructure, being on the cutting edge on a global scale. Arguing that some things were worse back then is disingenuous at best. It's hysterical watching people that hate trump turn everything into his being racist, sexist, xenophobic, gleefully kitten stomping and/or sink poopery. Knock it off. You know very well that's not the implication.

Not just that -- if you were gay back then and open about it?

Except for Illinois, which decriminalized sodomy in 1961, at the time of the Stonewall riots, every other state criminalized homosexual acts, even between consenting adults acting in private homes. "An adult convicted of the crime of having sex with another consenting adult in the privacy of his or her home could get anywhere from a light fine to five, ten, or twenty years—or even life—in prison. In 1971, twenty states had 'sex psychopath' laws that permitted the detaining of homosexuals for that reason alone. In Pennsylvania and California sex offenders could be committed to a psychiatric institution for life, and [in] seven states they could be castrated." (Carter, p. 15) Through the 1950s and 1960s, castration, emetics, hypnosis, electroshock therapy, and lobotomies were used by psychiatrists to try to "cure" homosexuals. (Katz, pp. 181–197.) (Adam, p. 60.)

So, better not have been found out to be a gay person back then either.

I wonder if the people calling me a "race-baiter" and accusing me of using race for some kind of "divisive" purpose are anything but white males themselves?

*raises eyebrow*

Simple...we are the biggest consumers in the world. Our consumerism will make or break a company. We make them an offer that they can't refuse...come back home or lose us as a customer

what's wrong with having the growth and prosperity of the 1950's coupled with the civil laws of 2016?

Why do you honestly believe that Trump wants to reverse 65 years of civil liberties?

You know what's funnier? People getting all derppy derp over Trumps OPINION about when America was at it best not what he's going to do if he wins the presidency.

Let's not forget that segregation was real and thriving, women hardly had a place in the workforce post WWII, being openly gay was practically a death sentence, and interracial marriage wasn't going to be legal until 1967.

Economically we were in a good spot, socially we weren't. That said, the whole women in the work force thing really screwed everyone. Women by wanting to work doubled the labor supply and created a situation where women now have to work. It was a gain for any women that wanted independence but a real hit to families. That reason alone ensures we will never again have the prosperity of the 50's where a single person working could support a family.

I'd like to ask all those pro-Trump people one question:

Would you rather be a woman, black, or any other minority in 1955....or 2015? Which year would you rather live in as one of those people?

That's it, short and simple.

2015, but you're question is embarrassing.

He wants to bring the good economic prosperity to us in 2016, that doesn't mean we need to bring that bad stuff too. Come on man.
