I don't like the idea of total socialism, nor total capitalism. We are currently a mixed economy and I think that needs to be tweaked and fine tuned. I do believe that any monetary system is doomed to fail, however, and it is simply a matter of postponing the inevitable doom as long as possible.

For those older ATS members... Who was the last president that affected/changed your PERSONAL life for the BETTER?

I don't think anyone is advocating turning the USA into a Communist state...
Some people would just like to see some 'socialist' policies introduced into the USA, like universal healthcare or an adequate minimum wage. They are things already enjoyed by the majority of the developed world, and it isn't as if those things will destroy the fabric of the USA or severely cripple it.

Uh no. It doesn't work that way. Congress has to approve his nominations. All of them.

What you are claiming is what every socialist claims, that everything good under the sun is socialism...
Well, sorry to rain on your parade, everything is not socialism...
As an example, a socialist police in a nation will follow ONE set of rules, in the United States every state has different laws. Yes some laws are basic, but that doesn't make LEAs socialist... Are LEAs turning socialist?... Sure they are, thanks to more and more implementations of socialism into the system.
Turning socialist doesn't mean they are socialist already. At least not yet.
Public libraries are not socialist... You know why? Because under socialism there is a lot of control over what books you could find in a library. Public libraries are funded under a variety of sources in the U.S.
For example, public libraries in Vermont receive no state funding.
Just because a military, sewer waste removal, highways, etc etc exist in a nation it doesn't make them socialist...
Sorry, but it doesn't...
Socialism means the government owns all means of production. Socialism means all property that produces in large quantities are owned and controlled by the State. Socialism means to ban liberties, and rights of people as individuals for the collective/common good...
You have to learn what socialism is first, because sorry to rain on your parade....everything under the sun is not socialist...

Being totally ruled by crony capitalist isn't my idea of freedom and liberty. It's more like a fascist oligarchy tyranny imo.
Throwing around "socialist BS" isn't going to change anyone's mind. It's a numbers game now....place your bets.
I'll take socialism over a religo fascist like Cruz any day!!

Just to clear something up, despite calling himself a "democratic socialist," Bernie Sanders is actually a "socialist democrat" which is not the same thing.

What's funny is you obviously KNOW this because you linked from a Daily Kos post I've actually read and know to be about this very distinction.
I don't think Sanders would be effective (actually quite the opposite), I'm not particularly impressed with him and ultimately I see a Sanders presidency as being a disaster that could lead to a certain GOP victory in 2020.
On the other hand, you're straight up being disingenuous. You're also quite the chicken little:
"He would completely destroy or re-write the United States Constitution"
Yea, because the president can do that. Ugh.

*snort* I know, right?
I think people just want to see a better return on their taxes. Under Sander's most people's taxes would stay the same or only marginally be raised...but they would save money by not having to pay for expensive private insurance...
