She should be set free and praised. He should have his "insert body part" removed. In my opinion, anyone who is the target of a rape should have the right to use deadly force with no repercussions as some rapes end in murder. Any law that prevents you from defending yourself is BS. It should be repealed immediately, especially in light of what has been going on there with regards to rape.

Typical government #.
and the guy trying to rape her will be going to court. Not because of what he did, but to complain about how he "has to live".

The funny part is, this particular knife (automatic switch blade, to be used with one hand and automatic lock mechanism) is the only knife of that sort that´s allowed:

Böker Speedlock

that´s it. The knife laws in europe are so ffed up.

On the other hand, I´d read, now on flys to the US, you can carry a knife if it´s
-shorter than 6cm
-width of the blade is max 1.3cm
-not lockable
-no ergonomics

WTF?

You could in theory carry a folding karambit for EDC and still be legal. These are insanely brutal and effective weapons in the right hands as they're designed for hooking and tearing.

You named it -> in the right hands.
In a situation where a weak person has to defend itself with a weapon, most of the time, the weapon lands in the hands of the attacker.

That´s a fact.

That's why you send it to the jury.

Juries are generally, though not always, smarter then people give them credit for.

Overlooked? Not if her lawyer is even remotely competent. That's all the trial should be about.

What part of the world do you live in that sexual assault isn't serious? I would move.

I live in London UK and I have seen the witness statements along with statistics that show a alarming amount of sexual approaches for the Transport network, Underground and Buses respectively.

It is also alarming about the under of girls 16 and under that see sexual approaches as a everyday thing when they travel in and around London or to School and many will not report the incident as they feel the Police will not take the crime seriously. It actually got some public recognition mainly from Public media and the powers at be had to act and they created "Operation Guardian" as a tick box. It was put in place to Highlight to Police officers both British Transport and Met Police along with Rail and transport staff about the seriousness of these approaches and assualts and the correct channels to go down when they are reported.

The fact is that most of the assailant will never be caught and the best you can hope for is a blurry CCTV image to go on.

P.S In deed I will be moving very soon, London is now a cesspool and I am thankful that I have the option of getting out as many do not....

Its not a fact at all, it happens sometimes. Carrying any weapon without knowing how to use it is pretty stupid anyway. You can disarm any weapon under the right conditions, that doesn't invalidate their overall usefulness.

It does not, if the one carrying has propper training. The weapon you advised on contrary, needs proper training.

It is fact, that in situations where a victims body is so weak it needs a weapon, the chance that the weapon is switching hands is very high. Just ask every self defense instructor.

I spent over 10 years as a self defence instructor and have run anti rape classes for women.

The index ring on the karambit and the way its gripped makes it much harder to disarm than a regular knife. Try doing it with a trainer blade against a small girl manically slashing and see how you get on.

Then you collide with the opinion of every single instructor I have met. My father was running a international security team, his company protected pope Ratzinger, the spanish football team during the european football challenge 2008 and many more.

Every instructor I met until now was the opinion a weapon in untrained hands is much more dangerous to the victim.
Yet, you advise random people on the internet that they should use the karambit as a self defense weapon, because it´s not as easy to rip it out of the hands.

The problem is, keeping it in your hands is one thing, defending yourself with it, another.
As an instructor you should know that in an event of attack, even trained people confident with weapons are not granted to get the upside.

The next problem is, your karambit is forbidden in most european countries. So it´s as useful as the pepper spray in the girls situatuion. That´s also something you should be aware of, if you instructed for ten years.

It´s forbidden because of the very fact you stick your finger into an opening.

Link to pdf explaining why forbidden

And not only for germany. In denmark for example, knifes in public will get you in trouble.

I already said having a weapon without knowing how to use it is stupid. Not sure how much more clear on that I could've been.

If an instructor has told you most untrained armed people end up disarmed, they're wrong. Most deaths from knife attacks aren't the aggressors being killed it's the victims, it doesn't take a genius to work that out but there is pretty voluminous data to support that if you really need it.

I'm not required to know international laws on prohibited weapons. I taught weapon defence in reality based scenarios. The legality of whatever weapon is being used by the attacker is less important than how the defence application fits the constraints of reasonable force.

The law can't protect people as well as they think.

Last I heard lead defeats paper.

Pay his bail, load your shotgun, wait outside. That's going to have to be the new justice system. The uniformed bafoons aren't working.

I am pretty sure that first mugger is going to be terrified of little korean high school girls for the rest of his life. A little instant negative feedback on that level may have done more for justice and peace than the Korean prison he was destined for.

www.independent.co.uk...

An elderly woman used an unconventional self-defence technique to ward off an assailant while walking her dog in Cheltenham.

The woman fended off her attacker by squeezing his testicles after he accousted her in an unprovoked assault at 11:30am on Monday.

According to the woman, the man stomped out of a wooded area shouting “get off my land” and hit her in the mouth, leaving her with bruising and a small cut.

The victim said she immediately grabbed the man by his testicles causing him to fall to the ground.

She then calmly walked away in the opposite direction without looking back.

The man, who was wearing blue jeans, a dark jacket and a navy baseball cap, is described as white, between 25-35 years old, of slim build and has dark hair.

The woman described him as suntanned and said that he spoke with a “young voice”.

A Gloucestershire police spokesman said: “Clearly this was an unusual method of self-defence and the attacker got more than he bargained for.”

"It would have been a terrible experience for a person of any age."

Officers are appealing for information about the incident which occurred near to an old airfield in the village of Stoke Orchard. They are urging anyone with information to come forward and call 101.

Another way to go. Good on this 83 year old.

Thanks for those links, I will be looking at them.

I have quite a few old friends who live in, or around, London, and work in the City. Some ride the Underground to and from work.
