If you know how people think of you or of a position you hold, then it's easier to communicate and debate with them.

Yup

And nobody needs a Liberal education to understand that concept.

Democrats always revert to subjective tests like claiming republicans aren't intelligent because all objective statistics favor republicans. Democrats both earn less and are less likely to have a college degree (as if that means anything, I have a doctorate btw) than republicans, but republicans aren't intelligent.

No - my sophistication is showing.
Darlin'.

"Sophistication?" I think the word you are really looking for is sophistry.

Would you like to come live here in your home-state?

How's your boy Rand doing?
Has he got 3 million individual contributors?

Hi. Welcome to ATS.

I have a Master's Degree....(as if that means anything).....
I have two grown children also.
I'm not a Democrat - I'm an Independent/Unaffiliated voter (as if that means anything). I'm also a Freethinker......

If people who claim to be "Christians" are offended that Bernie says things that reflect the exact things their "Jesus" said, it's not my fault. If they are too kerfuffled to even consider it, then - that's not my fault either.

The information has been presented.
Readers can take it or leave it.

Really scare quotes?

Anyway...

You might be able to claim that, you did not at the time, (Which I question, but lets give you the benefit of the doubt) however you do in fact know now. and it does not keep you from saying it must be unsophisticated.

How do we know this?

Because he said,

So to correct conservatism, a person would have to be educated, or re-educated.

Followed by you saying;

Educated. Properly educated. Disabused of the fantasies according to which they operate.

You don't like that term? Okay - let's say "sophisticated" then.

And him informing you of his worldview...

So as a conservative...

Does it matter?

I'm no Christian, so I may be wrong. . . but Jesus didn't spend 30 years working with the "money lenders and such" in Jerusalem.

hahaha

When it comes to mine, you seem to think it does. As far as yours, I could care less.

I long ago learned that education doesn't matter nearly as much as what you do with it. And some of the richest, most successful people in the world never completed college.

As far as how many degrees you have, all it really tells me is that you were willing to sit and put up with a professor's crap longer. It's what you did after that matters in the big wide world.

I won't argue with that. I think Christians have developed a culture that's contrary to Christianity.

From my perspective, I believe the evangelical right has deterred any true hope of fiscal conservatism.

I think we'd all be better if they would grow out of their delusions.

Somewhat.

There are a branch of Christians who think they ought to spread that to government and use government as God's instrument, but you can't confine them to any one denomination or even to conservative. There are plenty of liberal Christians who believe in tenets of Liberation Theology or Collective Salvation which does extend their beliefs into government because "if we aren't all saved, then none can be saved."

Obama is a good example when he talks about "my brother's keeper" and such justifications. I don't mean that to say that Obama himself is necessarily devout, but he is appealing to that liberal facet of his base - the liberal Christian. John Kasich and Mike Huckabee also use similar justifications when they grew the social welfare states in Ohio and Arkansas. One reason why Kansas has such a top heavy government is because of the coalition between liberals and Christians on this same issue.

This is the same sort of belief appealed to by politicians and others to push for socialism and it doesn't just catch those who would be conservative in all other ways. It does catch the religious though.

...sigh....

You have to pay attention if you want to come to these meetings.

You also have to pay attention to all of the candidates if you want to get involved in political debates.

Thank you, much better stated than I've attempted to explain while banging my head against the wall. The City of Flint's water department was simply inept, and the MDEQ is just as much to blame as well for not enforcing Corrosion Controls on them as well. At least someone from the EPA realized the danger, good on him....

michiganradio.org.../0

Corrosion Control should have been expected....for a boring video on Winnipeg's Water Treatment for all, have at it. At the 5:36 point everyone can see they add chemicals to prevent lead leaching in their pipes as well. Basically, this seems to be an industry standard.

www.youtube.com...

Regardless of how they ended up using the river water, if the City of Flint's Water Dept was unable to properly treat, sanitize, and provide safe drinking water it is firstly up to them to realize, and admit that. They are the ones operating the water treatment system ! Unless it can be proven that the Emergency Director under the direction of the Governor made the City of Flint's water Dept not use Corrosion Control chemicals or additives to save money, then it is still very much the City of Flint's Water Dept's fault.

It is obvious that you have not awoken from your programmed slumber. Fan of The Young Turks?

The real problem is that we have corrupt and evil politicians that work together. There is no right and left, there is just them, and us. Assigned numbers from birth, the powers that be claim ownership of every facet of our life.

Very well said...but you forgot to bash conservatives somehow...that's the theme of this hate piece.

Isn't Michigan very blue anyways... Like Detroit hasn't had a republican mayor in 50 yrs. I know we are talking about Flint but the state as a whole is what I'm talking about...especially since Flint had a contract end with another city.

Stupid conservatives! Rawr! Bible humpers!
Liberals and commies good! Hail Obama and Satan! - there now my post looks legit for this thread.

"nyder said that Detroit, after being informed of the Flint council vote, sent a "letter of termination" of water service. Detroit sent a letter giving Flint one year on its existing contract, but that didn't mean Flint couldn't get water from Detroit after that date. In fact, there was a flurry of negotiations between Detroit and Flint to sign a new contract that would carry Flint through until it could connect to the under-construction pipeline. That new contract was going to cost Flint more money."

From the same source as above.
