I wonder what the cure for conservatism is.

The cure is Education, particularly in the Liberal Arts & Humanities (aka Liberal Arts & Sciences, depending on the institution).

So conservatism is a condition best described as uneducated?

Given the state of today's universities and the educational track being advocated, I would say a better word is unindoctrinated.

I note how STEM was missing.

You had a Liberal Arts regimen in your undergrad freshman and sophomore years?
Things like Western Civ, and Poli Sci, and Math and Science courses, Art and Literature? Anthropology and World History?
Logic, and Philosophy, and so on? Prerequisites, before you could even CHOOSE a major?

No? Doesn't surprise me (but of course, I won't mention where you went to school)...
still.....
think about it.

You are right though, that modern college/university curricula are more like "intense Vo-Tec" (Vocational/Technical School) than they are broad-based higher education. A real shame.

No wonder people like Brownback and Cruz have voters......and power.
yikes.

So the Flint "problems" are the fault of Detroit and themselves.

Sounds logical.

Also sounds like they are looking for a scapegoat.

So to correct conservatism, a person would have to be educated, or re-educated.

Educated. Properly educated. Disabused of the fantasies according to which they operate.

You don't like that term? Okay - let's say "sophisticated" then.

So as a conservative, I'm uneducated (need to be re-educated) and I'm unsophisticated.

I'm also, according to some, unenlightened.

But thank you for your answers.

I don't know what you are.
I didn't say anything about "re-educating" you. You brought that up.

I said "properly educated" - and then "sophisticated" as a synonym.
I didn't say anything about you. I don't know you.

To be fair that is why he said "As a Conservative".

But I never used the word "re-educate" - he did.

I never used the word "unsophisticated" - he did.
Don't put words in my mouth.

re-educating won't work

They will be telling you it's because you have no Liberal education.

They will be telling you the Liberal education MUST happen before age 22, or it is hopeless.

But only roughly 20% actually get brainwashed anyway.

You used the term sophisticated, I used re-educate as a play on re-education centers.

But that's all ok.

I'm not upset. It's good to know how people think when we're all debating.

If you know how people think of you or of a position you hold, then it's easier to communicate and debate with them.

No you did not say "re-educate"
Nope you did not say he was unsophisticated either.
You just said his education was unsophisticated, you sneaky philistine you.

So exactly how did I put words in your mouth again, by saying,

To be fair that is why he said "As a Conservative".

One might think with a sophisticated education, one could see the context. The Context in particular dialog would be this;

I don't know what you are.

being your response to the following statement...

So as a conservative...

Darlin' we've been around the block already on where I went to school. You seem to think I went to some kind of religious school which, of course, is your fantasy entirely.

I did indeed have all those things including a philosophy class as my major required a Bachelor of the Arts. I also had all the necessary coursework to graduate with a Bachelor of Science as I was originally heading into a STEM background course of study, but opted into something else when I discovered an interest in reading and writing.
