Terry Pratchet made a whole lot of people very happy with his tales of a flat floating circle/disc world and he was a literary genius. Shame that the Bible, which lets face it is possibly also fictional to a certain extend, and a work of Man to boot, cannot achieve the same and causes such discontent in our world. Or is that just Christianity and organised religion in general?

If Terry Pratchet was a genius of any kind he would've cut a circle
out of a piece of paper and compared it to the earth. Or employed a compus.

Four directions four winds.

So... how do you distinguish which parts of your religion are from Satan, and which parts from Christ?

You saying that religion was "created by Satan to destroy mankind" kind of invalidates your whole point of view... you seem to be suggesting the story of Christ and the Bible were created by Satan...?!?

I know I'm twisting your words a little there.. ;-) It is obvious that you think that Christ was a real dude, doing awesomely dudish stuff, and it was only after he was gone that the big bad Satan came along and twisted it all about, spreading his "Evil" bad things across the world...

The point I'm making is... and is really the basis of this whole thread... you're picking and choosing to suit your interpretations, rather than looking objectively at all the information around you.

Hey man - their words, not mine!

Hell, as far as I'm concerned it's a hollow earth filled with Reptillians while the moon is made of green cheese.

That all seems more plausible than a burning bush and a guy with a boat and 2 of every animal...

His genius lay in other fields, fictional ones at that, yet none the less interesting.

I'm sorry but the Bible does imply the Earth is flat.

The Earth has four corners:

Revelation 7:1
After these things I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, aholding the four winds of the earth, bthat the wind should not blow on the earth, on the sea, or on any tree.

The Earth has edges:

Job 38:13
That it might take hold of the ends of the earth, And the wicked be shaken out of it?

The line is marked across it (flat) instead of 'around it' (spherical):

Job 38:44
Where were you when I laid the earth's foundation?Tell me, if you understand. Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know! Who stretched a measuring line across it?

God is referring to the four corners of the Earth (North, South, East, West).

The "ends" of the Earth, if you read the scriptures before it, refers to the end of the world.

The line is referring to the diameter.

Reptilians are what people consider aliens. The fallen angels are capable of shape shifting into any form, but God turned them into hideous reptilian creatures as their real identity, hence why the snake is always considered evil.

Funny how the devout just completely avoid questions and posts that they have no answer for and keep spouting the same lines like a mantra...

I'm still waiting for a response from the OP to Krazysh0t's question:

If I were to walk up to you and say that there are two lights in a room lighting it up, would you EVER assume that it was actually one light bulb and a mirror reflecting the light bulb's light?

Im certainly not a genius by any measure of the word. LoL

What would you like me to add pray tell?

I did point out that the Arabs and Muslims taught us far more about astronomy, and also measurement and mathematics for that matter, than a book that allegedly contains the word of God.

Or do you disagree?

So... enlighten me then... what is the bible saying when it says "circle of the earth.

You don't have to be enlightened at all hombre. But being
obtuse certainly won't suffice. When you look up and see the
full moon the sun and all the other planets thru a telescope.
The Bible is simply describing exactly what you see to make it's
point. Nothing more nothing less. That's it, that's all. Be realistic
and just admit you'll latch on to a turd to float away from the
Bible. And you don't even have a reason to at all. Best example
of ancient literature I've ever come across.

You do realize that the Quran and Bible are basically the same right? Same stories and originated from the same tablets and scrolls.

Donkey ages ago -- when I was in college -- I set out to re-read the Bible and highlight all references that resonated to me as "strongly scientific". Well, I expected that the book of Ezekiel would be fraught with highlighting, but what was curious to me is that when I began at Genesis, in the mindset of "strongly scientific", a majority of Scripture became highlighted.

For myself, there isn't a conflict between the Bible and science. For me, both use different language and nomenclature to describe similiar phenomena.

You mean an abrahamic religion?

You should probably relies even those had predecessors.

Unless of course you subscribe to the notion our Earth is rather young by nature? And not in fact 4.543 billion years old.

That's okay tho Andy, I'm not either and most likely less
educated. But I do guard against saying things that just
sound retarded as much as possible. Something you
must admit Pratchet is guilty.

Well these were some rather insightful words from a fictional retard.

"Mama always said life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get."

Sometimes i think everyone is a little retarded in there own way, thats what makes us special.

I actually was rather partial to Pratchett's books.
