On a side note I challenge the origin of the slang usage of "fish" going to gay men. Because I've been familiar with that term being used in the exact same way by straight men for a really long time as well. The only difference would be that "born a woman" was automatically implied.

Is it possible to get off topic any more than this BTW??? I think we should end it here before a mod steps in.

A great victory.

However I cannot help but cringe when people of my generation mindlessly think America is the greatest country on the planet now and Obama this great leader. Gay marriage has been legal in many places for years. Heck it used to be legal in ancient Rome.

It's funny we think we are so free yet there are so many things that used to be legal but now are not. At least this can be crossed off that list now.

I don't... there are far too many more steps that need to be taken for Equality that many have listed within this topic.. marriage was a step forward and we must continue.... i hope people don't just stop now and consider this the ultimate victory

but today we get to celebrate this step!

I wouldn't exactly lower my guard just yet either if I was you. While I agree that those in favor of this ruling should consider it a victory and be proud and happy about it, I wouldn't assume that it's all smooth sailing just yet either. The old phrase, "You may have won the battle but haven't won the war" I think still applies in this case.

There are some very powerful forces that won't take this lightly and I have no doubt to them it's certainly not over. Already there is an organized resistance that is and has been preparing for this. The ball is in their court now and it will interesting to see what their next play is going to be.

But for now, congrats!

I don't get it - why is this still an issue? I don't even think there needed to be Supreme Court Ruling - isn't equality guaranteed by the constitution?

Now the whole benefits thing I understand, there is a legal process involved and I guess that's the foremost the reason for the ruling.

So now the question is, what about marriage between 2 + 1 or 2 + 2 or 3 + 5 or 1 + 6 or 1 + 25 .. ?

Or, and to the religion nuts .. I don't see where are you can be threatened by that?!

Thats great if someone benefits from it, but usually when they do something really big in America, we will hear something soon after, that was slipped under the nose of Congress, or some big new constitutional destroying policy.

It's official !!!

The Supreme Court says same sex marriage is protected by the 14th Amendment.

State bans are now illegal.

The decision was just handed down.

Supreme Court extends same-sex marriage nationwide

Who cares! A guy can be on acid and have sex with his pet goat. So wha? I't not my problem. Christian and Muslim groups are in an uproar because this new philosophy does not jive with their antiquated books of beliefs. Religion is a farce.
WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Supreme Court has declared that same-sex couples have a right to marry anywhere in the United States.

Gay and lesbian couples already can marry in 36 states and the District of Columbia. The court's ruling on Friday means the remaining 14 states, in the South and Midwest, will have to stop enforcing their bans on same-sex marriage.

I am still in awe of how President Obama can compel the Supreme Court to do his bidding. He did it in 2012 AND 2015 with ObamaCare. Since the Chicago "Gay Pride" parade is this coming Sunday, the President probably called the Supreme Court, urged them to deliver the Same-Sex Marriage decision on Friday, instead of Monday, as was originally planned. Naturally, the SCOTUS complied.

Within a few hours of the Supreme Court announcing that Same-Sex Marriage is legal in all 50 states, our local news media began describing how the social media is lighting up with thousands of people suddenly planning to fly, drive, etc.. into Chicago this weekend to celebrate, before/during/after the Gay Pride parade.

Not everyone "believes" people are equal and they often times come up with clever ways of getting others to believe that also.

Now the whole benefits thing I understand, there is a legal process involved and I guess that's the foremost the reason for the ruling.

As for the "religion nuts" they bring up the polygamy argument as well. Which is a strange argument coming from those who claim to follow a book which promotes polygamy in some very extreme ways actually. One of their most cherished and Respected Kings was known to have something like 300 concubines along with his many wives even.

But mixing reason and religion works about as well as oil and water most times so the debate just goes on and on.

Not foolish at all. Again I bring up the Loving v Virgina ruling in 1967. How many religious liberties have been trampled since then in reference to that ruling?
That's different. Interracial marriage is not against biblical principles, and the churches largely fixed the apostisy within the church thereby mitigating any infringements that might have otherwise come to pass. There is however clear and concise teachings about homosexuality and what marriage is. Though some churches willingly ignore these teachings, it does not negate how obviousvthe teachings are.

Deuteronomy 7:3–4

3 You shall not intermarry with them, giving your daughters to their sons or taking their daughters for your sons, 4 for they would turn away your sons from following me, to serve other gods. Then the anger of the Lord would be kindled against you, and he would destroy you quickly.

2 Peter 3:16
"He speaks about these things in all his letters in which there are some matters that are hard to understand. The untaught and unstable twist them to their own destruction, as they also do with the rest of the Scriptures."

The passage you provided has nothing to do with marrying people of other races, not for a follower of Jesus. It is the principal of being equally yoked, i.e., Christians should only marry Christians be they white, black, or brown. For the Jew it means to only marry a Jew thereby making it a more ethnic issue being that only descendants of Abraham are true Jews. But, again, for the Christian this means little more than 'marry someone who believes as you believe and lives as you live."

Why do you think celebrating Gay Pride is bad, MonkeyFishFrog? To me, the more diversity, the better!
