The Confederate flag should be taken down and burned.

Conversely if it means so little, and people shouldn't be so stuck on it... why can't it just be taken down?

Read the link im going to post. I think it should be moved OFF the statehouse Grounds but STILL FLY somewhere dedicated to the HISTORY of the State. The OP says it should be out right banned and burned. Taking a play out of the NAzi handbook about burning things they didnt like.

COnfederate flag not budging.

All flags SHould be banned then because all flags have negative things then to be fair. Such as the Russia flag for oppressing former members of the USSR. the chinese Flag for its support of a regime that has some serious human rights abuses. The french flag.and so on and on. Are All of them deserving of burning and banning due to a few moronic idiots?

Like the swastika, the confederate flag has become a symbol of hate and should be banned.

Aww you mention the obvious elephant in the room, as it has been a long time symbol for racists and crickets start chirping.

Good on you for calling a spade a spade.

As to those who think having the symbolisms of racism and terrorism abound in our society are a good thing, and would decide to throw in with racists, well then I can only say birds of a feather flock together. You can claim to not be racist, but if your waving around racist symbols people wont think your anything but a racist.

Its like someone waving around a swastika flag in Nazi garb and saying they arent racist and mean well to the Jewish people who happen to be around horrorfied by thier actions.

I'm not calling for the banning of the flag. I want it removed from the top of federal buildings.

However if you want to be associated with the kind of people that proudly display it on the back of their pick up trucks, then you are more than welcomed to do so if you like.

Ask Them if they would be happy with a Black flag with a big X on it to see th ehypocrisy in the question of Removing the ALABAMA battle flag.

Defend your traitorous flag all you want. The good guys won the civil war, why would I honor the soldiers what tried to destroy the Constitution?

Just dont be suprised when people think someone is a racist if someone wearing the Confederate flag draped like a cape over their back.

As soon as the British flag is burned because of their involvement in the Transatlantic Slave Trade and the crimes against humanity committed under the British Empire, I'll get on board with this idea.

As soon as the Russian flag is burned for the atrocities committed under that flag, I'll get on board with this idea.

As soon as the Chinese flag is burned for the atrocities committed under that flag, I'll get on board with this idea.

As soon as the Japanese flag is burned for the atrocities committed under that flag, I'll get on board with this idea.

Until then, shut up about historical symbols.

News Flash-

None of the flags you mentioned are flying on top of state capitols or in front of them in the U.S.

No, they're just the national symbols of entire countries and they're not only associated with the past atrocities that they once symbolized.

Apparently my point went right over your head.

Look at this fine young man celebrating his Southern Heritage by holding the Confederate flag

Some die hard believers actually think these pics are photoshopped and refuse to believe he just be some racist waving the Confederate flag around. It amazes me that some people refuse to see the reality of racism and accept that it is the root of the problem.

I have herd it could be:
meds
mountauk
false flag
photoshop
various mental disorders
he wasnt a racist
temporary insanity
and the list goes on and on, why all the deflection?

So some folks find it offensive (which is understandable IMO). Well I find hanging a giant rainbow flag on the side of a federal building just as offensive. Any chance we can kill 2 birds with 1 stone?

There's an interesting article over at The Atlantic I was just reading. I got to this part and thought it might warrant some discussion:

It has been documented in scholarly books, articles, and official reports. The flag was created by an army raised to kill in defense of slavery, revived by a movement that killed in defense of segregation, and now flaunted by a man who killed nine innocents in defense of white supremacy.

Why Is the Flag Still There?

Just one minor, but rather crucial detail (IMHO) about that statement..........
The Confederate flag isn't the national symbol of this here United States of America - the Stars and Stripes is.............

Back in the 70's, the Cross of St. George (National flag of England) was seen as the property of the far right and football hooligans in the UK.

Anyone displaying it was seen as a probable member of one of those two groups and consequently it was rare for a "normal" person to want any association with it for fear of being branded antisocial.

What happened was a gradual readoption of the flag by the mainstream football fans and ordinary folks until we reach the stage where those who object to the sight of it are in the minority.

It hasn't been a quick fix, or an easy ride, nor is the journey over, but gradually the flag has been taken back by the ordinary English person.

Maybe that's what needs to happen with the Confederate Battle flag? It needs more ordinary Southerners to take the leap and display their flag. One day, the association with the KKK will be just a distant memory and there will be fewer calls for it to be outlawed.

Historically speaking, the Confederate Flag is part of EVERY American's heritage and history. That flag represents the OTHER SIDE of America's big mistake, The Civil War. If you remember your history....it wasn't just about Slavery. However we got through it and we became a better nation. Will some Black People want the Mexican flag treated the same way as the Confederate Flag next???? Oh yea, let's see that Black Panther Flag, I haven't that in awhile......That always pissed me off (LOL)

I thought it represented the original thirteen colonies and that the design was a spin off of the Union Jack.

I imagine with all this fuss about it, manufacturers of this flag will probably start selling a lot more in the upcoming weeks. Just seems that how things work sometimes. If something is perceived as good or bad, if it's popular, it's going to sell.

Last confederate flag I saw was flying over the grave of a black confederate soldier.
He had bought his freedom and taken up arms against the north knowing that if the south lost the war it would mean economic devastation.

Imagine trying to explain to the ATS crowd that Moses Levy was actually an African American Herzl leading warring tribesman to the promised land in chains.

UGH, couldn't be done

Every time I read post like this I just scratch my head, no wonder America is becoming what is today, rather than trying to learn from history lessons, new generations just want to erase them, no wonder people never learn and are bound to repeat the same mistakes, in another time in another history.

Lets create the new utopia where nothing bad ever happen and everybody just worship the history they want.
