True story:

At one time I was thinking about buying a house in South Carolina. It was one of the old large, colonial styles. The owner, a much older lady, was showing it to me. She took me out behind the house to what was once the "slave-quarters". She showed me a row of tassels in the front room of the horse-stable-like structure, of different colors; pink, white, blue, yellow, and she explained that the home-owner, slave-owner, could pull a color coordinated tassel from one of the rooms in the house, and it would ring a bell in the slave quarters, so the slave could look at the color and know which room they were needed in.

Then she looked at me with a smile on her face, and said "Oh Ladyinwaiting! Those were the good ole days!"

That's what I think of when I see a confederate flag.

You got beat near to death with the ignorance stick huh? There's more white conservatives on welfare than any other demographic. Conservative states are a drain on the US economy. Now the cause of that isn't any particular ideologies fault... but you guys damn sure aren't doing yourselves any favors by sticking with these outdated, backwards traditions.

People that cry the flag represents southern traditions have no idea what they are talking about. They should go read the cornerstone speech made by Alexander Stephens the vice president of the Confederate states if they really want to know what the flag represents. This is what it stands for.

I agree with the OP that flag needs to be protested against as it symbolizes racism in this day and age. Wether your with them/those who support the Confederate flag or against them, the protests will start. Those who dont like what the Confederate flag represents which is racism to many, will express thier disgust with the flag and those who brandish it. I can see that America needs to grow up and let go of old bad habits. Unity in thought will happen between all people in time in my opinion, but it wont be easy, nor will it be painless, but our duality and seperation will eventually come to an end. Then there will be no more racism as we will all see ourselves in each other, and rejoice.

I say its time for this flag to go.

Maybe if they'd stop living in the past, they'd progress more in their thinking/ideologies.

You know what Lady? I've heard a similar story, but only told from the perspective of an American living for a while in India. Something about having lower caste children up on the roof working the pulleys of a manual kind of swamp cooler all through the hot night while the white American guests slept below in comfort

I get tired of the dishonesty. The worst kind of dishonesty comes from people who don't want to wear the racist label, so they will either defend the most bizarrely obvious examples and pretend that it's not racist - or turn it into a free speech issue

The battle flag was never adopted by the Confederate Congress, never flew over any state capitols during the Confederacy, and was never officially used by Confederate veterans’ groups.

Well fortunately Georgia has seen fit to fix that as this is our state flag...



And this was our former state flag...



As you can see the south is proud of their heritage...and their confederate flags.

I say fly whatever flag you want......This is liberty guys and it is a slippery slope if you go the other way down the hill. Who decides what is OK or not OK..........Liberty is not subjective.



Fear and the lack of understanding what freedom actually is will cause tyranny. Whats next should we limit free speech out of fear.
