No, Russia was the big looser of this event...
It was accused providing the BUK system and/or providing support.
No way Putin would be stupid enough to pull such card...
novayagazeta.ru is not even a Russian media source,

Just curios, did anybody figure out yet that BUK is a top attack SAM? It's been a long time since this whole mess, it should have been apparent for just as long. MH17 was not hit from the top as BUK does in its terminal active tracker tracking phase.
This is a post from a guy that served on BUK, he explains everything in detail, google translate it;

In short BUK is not the murder weapon, it kills from the top, not from behind.
Engineers from the Russian Almaz-Antey corporation, manufacturer of the Buk missile system, said at a press conference Tuesday that the Malaysia Airlines flight MH17, which crashed in Ukraine on July 17, 2014, was downed by a guided missile.
The manufacturer's investigation and comparative analysis revealed the missile to be a Buk-M1 missile, which is used by the Ukrainian military.

If it's on Sputnik it must be true. I see Russia has been forced to give up on the Ukrainian air-to-air missile story and admit that it was a BUK all along, as common sense and all the evidence suggested. Now they want to pin it on a Ukrainian BUK!
