um.... well...

A few weeks, at best.

The clans concept is just that, a concept. For it to be fully integrated and part of the forum software will take some time.

like Communism, it's a good idea on paper. I see it only further dividing the people. (ok, you talked me into it, only if I can be in the tech clan)

Sound like it might be fun.
As long as we don't have to wear kilts.

Sounds like a very good idea. I don't have nearly enough time to get that heavily involved in ATS, but for those who do, it should be an interesting new feature. Just as long as membership of a clan is not compulsory...

I expect that most members won't be in a clan, but many of our more active memebrs will be.

The idea is to give a structured way for like-minded members to band together and really dig into some quality content and concepts.

I thought that was what ATS is? Or did I miss something? I know what your getting at though. Can the "Clans" have other titles? For instance; tribe, assembly, instead of clan? I take it the name can be anything reasonable, I'm actually thinking about this and know who I would prefur to be "Clan" with. But...patience is a virtue.

Actually yes...

But this would help people transcend the forums and develop content for the main site, have a clan blog, perhaps each clan even has their own site with is a subdomain on abovetopsecret.com. Dunno... there are several ways this could evolve... one way might be in the crapper (
) but we won't know until we try.

will the "clans" have a clan e-mail, or something along those lines? Or is that subject to approval?

Reasons to not have MaskedAvatar in a clan

1. Masked lone wolf image
2. No kilt long enough
3. Bucks authority
4. Smells funny (after 72 hours at the screen)

P.S. then you have to run the obstacle course completely naked in the middle of winter while it rains fire singing the theme song from "Jesus Christ: Superstar"

I'll honest,I've gone off the idea.

Clans as a name is not a good one for more than one reason.

And allowing posters to form clans will make the forum clanish.

When I went to school I did not choose which house I became a member of I was asigned to it.Bonds were developed rather than reinforced.New house members could get help and support from their house members.

Instead of picking however many clan leaders and allowing members to join whichever clan they wished,it would be better to asign each member a house randomly and then allow each house to elect their leader.

That's only my opinion.Of course.

Hmmm...

I kind of like that direction... let's follow the thought...

Everyone who wants to be in the "ATS Clans" (we'll keep the name for now) enters the clan pool. On some pre-defined date, a random selection is made to split the pool up into six pre-defined clans aligned along conspiracy topics.

New members who want to join an "ATS Clan" can specify, and one will be randomly picked.

Clan members pick their leader, who then has moderator capabilities, but only for the members of his clan.

hmmm...

this has potential as well.
