Thank you. I was going to explain that nearest city thing which makes it difficult for me to explain where the heck I'm talking about. Anywho, that area, the one in Nevada, not the Reno ones, but, the ones near Oregon are at it again.

The Northern Nevada earthquake swarm is at it again. Over the last day there have been almost 50 earthquakes. I noticed it because a 4.4M showed up on my Yellowstone graphs. I'm lazy remember, I just watch them and the big maps and read Muzzy's Maps and graphs.

In the past I have tried to associate these Northern Nevada earthquakes to the ones in Idaho, and I once again am looking and finding nothing at present. There has been some activity in Idaho and Montana, but I can't link anything. Yellowstone in general has been quiet. So, I should just give up on the idea that these intercontinental earthquake swarms are not linked. Except Reno peeked my curiosity. I want to link it the the whole mess.

Oh, South America, it still is kinda quiet. Yes, there's been some popping off, but overall slow.
I'll just mention a bit on the moon. As I've stated, the activity, (if LInked) happens after the peak gravitational force. So, I am looking over the next 48 hours to watch and see if there's some unusual clustering. I usually look for interplate areas and volcanic areas. Or, the areas which according to the experts aren't volcanic but are unusal anyway. Like Reno, etc.

Eric, Isn't the Nevada/Oregon swarm due to the fact that it is a thermo plant. They do inject water there right?

I do keep an eye on the area when it perks up, but in my opinion it is strickly man made.

The area still interest's me, in, I wonder if this activity so close to the Juan De Fuch plate are could trigger something.

No, you're mixed up again. That's in California. The earthquake swarm in Northern Nevada is natural. i think. The whole area where they are located is in a park and there's nothing there expect animals. No drilling even. So, the question is tectonic or volcanic. The experts say regular faulting. A

And as for Afghanistan, that's one intercontinental earthquake.

This is where the earthquakes are taking place.

In or around this area.

Are we talking about two different places.?

I was talking about this place earlier.

The geysers in California are near San Francisco and they are due to the geothermal plant. The swarm that I keep mentioning is in Northern Nevada and is near Lakeview Oregon. As Muzzy said the confusion comes because the USGS locates by nearest city first, and not the actual state in which the earthquakes are occurring which is Nevada along the Oregon border.
And as I said, I think there's a park in the area.

Been a quiet December 2015 for NZ, only one M5 (Kermadecs) and also 2 days when there were no M3's at all.
Generally there seems to be a shortage of M3's all month.
The numbers of smaller quakes are there, so it's not panic stations yet.

Swarm in Tokyo Bay
26/12/2015 05:08:32 to 26/12/2015 23:20:54 JST
27 events showing on reviewed data, depths around 20km, = 3.763 TTNT energy released
the two M3's are at the end of the timeline, so not sure if this is going to get worse or what.
Its a real PITA that the JMA data is 2-3 days old by the time they make it public.
I'll have a look on the preliminary data and see if anything shows, but Prelim. can be unreliable.

only 2.44 km (1.52 mi.) from the Tokyo Bay Aqua-Line bridge and tunnel, I wonder how concerned the Authorities were/are?
in the image below I added the tunnel as a dashed like with finger pointing to it.

Bing Map, hopefully it works at your end.

I just found an odd earthquake. I don't to make of it. Yet. I'm Muzzy, or Puterman will and archive and prove me wrong. But it just seems so out of place and random. I really should research, but, as I've stated often, recently, I am lazy.

Yes I have seen the odd one out there, I recall a M6 or M7 there a few years ago (guessing timeline) that raised a few eyebrows, then it turned out to be a mistake.

I don't know if it's a mistake yet, but now there's another odd ball earthquake. I know that Puerto Rico has more earthquakes than most places in the world, but just below the island there's a nice 5.5 M bump near Saint-Pierre, Martinique. In 1902, the volcano blew it's top most spectacularly. The Caribbean Volcanoes are amazing and equally forgettable. I make it an effort not to forget the eruption of Montserrat, whole villages and cities were buried by lava. Here's a video of Montserrat. There's no video of Pelee.

www.youtube.com...

There may be no video of Pelee 1902, but there is photographic evidence.
www.youtube.com...

And just keeping track, Northern Idaho is popping off again.

Sorry, have to add stuff I've read. It would appear that just before full eruption of Mt. Pelee, several people climbed the mountain to have a look. In other words, we have eye witnesses that observed the location as the eruption was in it's early stages. Here's the quote that blows my mind. The quote is related to my favorite subject, water. There was a lake near the top of the volcano.

"On April 27, several excursionists climbed the mountaintop to find Étang Sec filled with water, forming a lake 180 m (590 ft) across. There was a 15 m (50 ft) high cone of volcanic debris built up on one side, feeding the lake with a steady stream of boiling water. Sounds resembling a cauldron with boiling water were heard from deep underground. The strong smell of sulfur was all over the city, 6.4 km (4.0 mi) away from the volcano, causing discomfort to people and horses."

It appears that an old crater, which was called "DRY LAKE" was filled with water. HMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Then we have explosions in the next few days. The fuel for those explosions was the water. I haven't dug up any old reports on the weather, because even if I tried I'd probably not find any, but whatever, somehow the lake was filled with water. Given that fact, it would appear that heavy rains preceding the eruption was most likely. Again, this major eruption was probably phreatic. Again, Above Top Secret is telling me phreatic is spelled wrong. Okay the, it was a hydro-thermal explosion. same thing

water water water

without it, nothing happens

www.youtube.com...

Another video to watch is on the Reno 2008 swarm. For no other reason than, that's what I'm watching now to keep following the shakes. any way, it's interesting because they go over earthquake basics.

www.youtube.com...

And I'm sorry, while I was watching the video I felt like it was all a joke. Why, because after the big 5M, you had many people calling...

The 2005 Swarm Muzzified

Magnitudes and Numbers may not seem much, but in an area with the world's most populous metropolis, with upwards of 37.8 million people (Tokyo Bay Region) it's worth keeping an eye on.

What a PITA loading those images to ATS were, I had to load them one at a time, the page freezed up once it was completed, so had to open a fresh page/tab and load another one, 6 times. Must be holiday Internet traffic.

Well that Tokyo Bay covered for 10 years anyway.

I don't know if this is something to be concerned about, but activity in/near Los Angeles seems to be picking up. I understand they have quakes all the time, but consider this little tidbit:

In the past hour, the greater Los Angeles area has had three "felt" quakes - a 4.6 about 50 minutes ago, a 3.8 four minutes after that one, and a 3.2 one minute after that one.

4.6, 3.8 and 3.2 all at the same exact depth - 6km. Each quake at the same exact latitude and longtitude (34.19N and 117.41W).

I like to keep track of quake stats and never saw a swarm (or any part of a swarm) with the exact same latitude, longtitude and depth. Is this odd or what?

Maybe it's just me?
