Alright now; heard it; what is really going on? ATS is a god given (through its human minions) miracle website for those believers of free speech, justice and the American (all humans as created equally) way; to sabotage its existence. Who is so afraid of the content here and has this kind of power through manipulating advertisers to steam roll under handicap this website? Not another "where did 'Density 4' GO (legal problems with .gov) ?" I will donate via credit card, however; to quote a phrase from Lawrence Olivier's character in "Marathon Man" IS IT SAFE?

OK man so I just did it.

After you enter the card info you hit Pay.

After that I see what you meant about signing up for PayPal.

That's OPTIONAL.

Scroll down and you'll see a button that says "No Thanks"

Click that little bugger and it will process, no need to sign up for anything.

Oh, one more thing.
Can you please let people know when you pull a thread because of threats,
from advertisers
the government
whom ever threatens you.
Also can you make a auto note when you delete a comment because of advertisers, government, whoever threatens you.

That way we won't think you guys are being rude to the regular users and
not respecting us but treating us as adults
and letting us know the real reason for pulling threads or comments.

It now makes sense why one of my comments that contained no profanity, nothing rude directed at another member, and nothing sexual or offensive as listed in T&C
was deleted and marked as violating T&C
I also wondered why no one ever replied to my query about why the post was deleted
I now realize that that Google who is in the pocket of TPTB and are a new arm of the government, in my opinion, would have found my post greatly offensive to the people and the viewpoints they openly endorse. www.theregister.co.uk...

I truly would love to help. But I am currently still off and on homeless. I have been staying with a friend I met and sometimes in the shelter if he gets bad off on a bender. Recently I had a couple job interviews . I will definitely help when and if Any of these interviews turn into employment.

There are so many great people here and when it went offline I have to admit I kinda felt alone not reading all the threads that day. And missed everyone. I would definitely hate to see ATS fail.

Thank you Bill, Springer, Craks, and the rest of the team for holding your ground, and not selling out the users and our content to appease the ad overlords.

Ive been at the helm of a few threads which made me feel a lil dirty afterwards.

I know the site has to run, and you deserve to be well compensated by your work. But Ive always felt that the site revolved around the users, and not ways to generate more and more income,

.... and even though you dont maximize profits, in return you gain something which can not be bought, sold, or stolen.........

Oh, so that's why my internet provider "dish network" uses "ask.com" instead of "google" as the main search engine (and I was suspicious why google was a default) crazy me.

Ok so I followed every step. Thing is, I am in Spain, not sure if that matters. I can't omit anything from the page, including making a password. No password(hence no new account) no payment. Thank you so much for your help. If I work it out I will let others know who may be having the same issue .
Or if any moderator or other has another suggestion that will allow me to help please let me know.

Honestly I wouldn't be too worried about PayPal. I don't think there are any fees associated and it must be safe considering how many people use it. I share your skepticism though.

Ya know, it's all relative. I understand that your posting in favor of ATS and it's fundraising efforts, and not trying to advertise why you can't contribute right now.

ATS is a "Come As You Are" party. Some people log on from the library. Your money, or lack thereof, isn't what makes your contribution important. Not everybody is expected to bring a case of beer!

Ya know, Heff, some of things you said gave me a 'lead in' to a comment I've been wanting to make. When I see comments, (and trust me, we've seen it multiple times) like "this is a user-generated site" blah blah. "Why should we pay when we do all the writing, make all the threads and posts" and other comments in that vein.

It's SO annoying, yes? I've never thought of it that way. Rather it provides a safe arena (mostly) to share your thoughts and ideas. It gives you an opportunity to put your thoughts into written words, which you might not otherwise do. I'm a politics junkie, and global affairs snoop. But if I want to write a short story, I can. And somebody will read it. you know?

If I want to rant, somebody will listen. If I want advice, somebody will give it.

We give to the site, yes we do. But it does indeed, give back.

(Although there are times I look at my screen and say ugly words. I'm not counting those times right now.)

I hope we don't lose ATS. I've been on this site for many years, mostly as a lurker until a couple of years ago when I got brave enough (overcame my paranoia) to register! I don't post a lot, because I value quality over quantity, and try not to post much unless it's decent quality. This site is truly one of a kind, and I will be happy to do what I can to contribute to keep it going. I really don't want to cast adrift in the vast internet looking for a new "home".

Since I'm a pessimist, I have to ask... should ATS not reach it's financial goal, would it be possible to maintain it at least as a bare-bones sort of forum? So that we aren't all scattered to the wind? I don't really understand all the techie stuff, but I have been on some forums that are pretty basic... is that something that could work for ATS to at least continue sharing content? Maybe I'm too old and suggesting ATS time travel to the stone age here, but it would be nice to know if there is a back up plan.

Seriously. I understand the plight some people can be in. About 20 years ago, I wouldn't have been able to find $10 at one point, and still needed to feed my kids and keep a roof over our heads. I know what it's like.

as a single fulltime dad i am pretty tight but i managed to at least obtain status as a junior conspirator ..its not much but at least it is something.....i hope you guys get enough to make a difference

We have never, and never will, "pulled a thread" because of an advertiser's request or demand.

It doesn't and never will happen. The only thing that has ever caused us to pull a thread on "request" was a genuine DMCA take down order based on a real copyright infringement or, threads that violated our TAC.

Period.



We have never kowtowed to advertisers and we never will.

NEVER.

Now that that's out of the way, I want to thank everyone for their support again and restate that I believe this community can overcome anything it wants to overcome.

Wait, what? Fifty three? You've got to be kidding me?

Please, do us and you a big favor. Sticky and highlight this thread and put a big obnoxious banner at the top and don't be shy about it. While you're at it, put a big "help us reach our goal" thermometer on the side. This is not getting the attention it needs. There is no shame in asking.

Regular members and folks that have been here for years, think how much you have gotten from this site. It is time to pony up. Fifty-three contributions is absolutely pathetic and you should be ashamed.

I'm logging into PayPal and contributing again and stepping it up this time.

My friend, you never, ever, have to feel obligated to donate to ATS.

You take care of yourself first.

If, after you have your basics covered and you still have an extra fiver, go buy yourself a good cigar, a hamburger, whatever you want. Please don't concern yourself with this site at this point.

It's obvious to me at least that we have your support in a very meaningful way just based on what you posted, that's worth much more than any money could be.
