Sorry I couldn't be more eloquent. I sure as hell ain't perfect but this whole thing has gotten to me over the years. Listening to the guys on ESPN this morning ranting about how great the military is and how they are fighting for our rights and blah blah blah, well, it was the final straw. I blew.

I'll never try and pass myself off as a literary genius, a writer of great prose or anything else to that effect. I know my writing sucks, but it's honest. My absolute feelings and thoughts, the best as I can say them.

I can't protest as there's nothing here in Las Vegas to protest against. There's no big banks here, just casinos and they'll have my ass in a sling quicker than the pigs around here would as they have their own private security forces.

I'm not a leader, I recognize that. That is reality, and I know it, yet I'm just supposed to go out and protest when no one cares, no one will listen in a town where no one cares. I'm also supposed to go to D.C. with no money, no food, no lodging and survive without all that. Or my words are twisted to make people think I want all the armed forces killed.

So yeah, sorry for not being so eloquent. I'm imperfect, yet my ideas, thoughts and beliefs are not so imperfect. Maybe I don't express myself as well as I should but that is who and what I am.

Not bitching at you CJ, just stating the facts. I agree with everything you posted.

No, I don't. Maybe you should try and rectify your own head-ass syndrome. Mine is firmly planted on my shoulders, nowhere near my ass.

Hmm...Medically it is referred to as "Rectal Cranial Syndrome", T&C's prevent the common term.

And I seriously doubt it.

OWS didn't do squat here. There were about five guys sitting at Trop and L.V. Blvd. That's not a protest.

You are entitled to your opinion. I am entitled to not agree.

Seriously doubt it? Why, because I don't agree with you? So you are the arbiter of what is right and wrong, whose opinion means something while others don't mean anything?

Who made you God?

Anyway, folks, it's time for me to try and nap for a while. Feel free to tell me how wrong I am, I'll try and do my best to respond to all those who obviously are better people than me, obviously know more than me, those whose opinions are worthy whereas mine obviously aren't.

Interesting how that works.

I absolutely hear you pal. And agree. Everyone in the military are victims of politics just like us. Fooled into doing the dirty work of tyrants the same way the public are fooled. Then they are glorified to make it all ok.

It makes me sick but its not the men and women in the military to blame. Its our leaders. The people in the military think they are doing good things. But there is a huge vale of wool over their eyes.

21 arrested in orchestrated Occupy Las Vegas demonstration

Last I checked, 21 was more than 5.

So your lot in life is to sit around and gripe about something you don't like without actually DOING anything to fix your said gripe?

I'm just supposed to go out and protest when no one cares, no one will listen in a town where no one cares.

That's how protests START. One person, fed up, thinks nobody cares. Then they go out with a sign and idea and MAKE people care. Why can't you do that? A sharpie and a piece of cardboard is cheap.

I can't protest as there's nothing here in Las Vegas to protest against.

So Vegas is free from your scrutiny of a messed up system?

There's no big banks here, just casinos and they'll have my ass in a sling quicker than the pigs around here would as they have their own private security forces.

If you're not willing to bleed for your beliefs, then your conviction is weak.

One person is a protest and you could have been 6. Stop making excuses. All I'm reading is excuses and whining. You're worse than my 5 year old. Grow up dude. I never said you had to agree to anything, but if you feel so strongly about something then get off your ass and DO something. Because for as long as you're here whining you're no better that the troops you don't support working for the government Mr. Holier Than Thou

One of the best replies in this thread!

Well done!

Well, I should have been more eloquent myself. Maybe a better choice of words than "more eloquent" would have been "less insulting". I meant no offense, only to say that your message likely got lost in the emotionally charged language and timing of the post.

I am a Mother.
I have one child, a son, who has joined the Military.
I tried to talk him out of it, to reason with him, to explain how the world works. I even, I am ashamed to admit, tried tears, twice.
But he is young and full of ideals and loves his Country. I pray he will survive this learning experience.
Though I may not agree with his decision, I will support him and continue to worry about him every minute of every day until he comes home.

Tired Of The Propaganda - "Support The Troops"

I agree completely, and this is why I believe that all citizens of our union should be in the military. There should be no distinction between citizen or soldier. It leads to petty hero worship, and it is irresponsible to shirk your inherent duty by expecting someone else to protect you.

There is no one better suited to defend your life, liberty, property, family, or community than you yourself.

I don't disagree. It reminds me (sort of) the Heinlein model (the author, not the crappy movie adaptation of one of his books) for citizenship.

It's almost every year on Veterans day, we are gifted with this type of thread. Thank you OP. Thank you for showing us why we served. And why good men still serve.

The constitution gives you the right to spew any ignorant garbage you wish. This site, in a free society offers you a platform to spew the dumbass comments you have.

The fact that we have good men who have served and are serving, ensures that we will not have an occupation in your home land. No guilt trip, No shame. Just a sincere thanks for reminding me that what we did and do, we do for all. The smart, the strong, the weak, and the often "not so smart".

So to all the fine men and women who have served, God Speed, be proud, and stay vigilant.

You need to see the bigger picture here.

Most of the troops will never see a battle field.
Most will be creating, engineering, cooking, cleaning, teaching & many more!

Those who do see the battle field are putting their lives on the line to protect others, not themselves.

It's hard to debate someone so narrow minded.

You wanted facts, not tugging on heart strings, yes...

Well it's a fact that those troops who sign up do so for your benefit, not the benefit of politicians.
It's a fact those politicians are cowardly and would never fight for your safety.
It's a fact that those same politicians will be gone in 5 years, but the vets will still be there through the trials & tribulations.
It's a fact that you have enough to pay for wifi, a roof & other things, while others truly suffer worldwide without clean water to drink.
It's a fact that you've taken many things for granted, including the wisdom of this thread.
It's a fact that if it wasn't for those troops you refuse to support, you'd be speaking German saluting a Fuhrer.
It's a fact that if it wasn't for those troops you refuse to support, you'd be under true tyrannical Government, like Saudi Arabia.
It's a fact that if it wasn't for the troops you refuse to support, you'd have none of the Constitutional rights you've been gifted to start this thread.

On the other hand it's a fact, that the troops killed over a million in Iraq & Afghanistan...
So you're disenfranchised.
It's a fact that the Government takes the piss...
So you're bewildered.
It's a fact that we've been lied to...
So you have trust issues.

But...It's a fact that you expect to sit on your arse complaining that troops won't take the Country back, while you besmirch the current crop of troops that are on stand by ready to do just that if the Government goes too far.

& that irony is delicious.

Maybe you should sign up, live the life, visit new places, earn a wage, you could be a chef, or an engineer, or an Air Traffic Controller...

& one day you may have the pleasure of manifesting your own destiny as you wish, if it means fighting Government, so be it...

But the troops who have no idea that the wool is being pulled over their eyes need someone like you, to stand up for them, and be a leader, a teacher, someone who is willing to show them what the Government is doing so they can understand your position!!!

In short they need your support...
Not your heartless approach...
Not your complaining while doing sweet F.A...
Not excuses...
Not such a generalised rant...

Just your support, that's not asking a lot!

Happy Rememberance Day!

Bring back conscription/the draft for all who can fight & teach...

I think that is the solution as well.

Especially when it comes to fighting crime, it's much better than the current Prison Industrial Complex!

Protect against whom?

edit: nevermind. After reading further I see that a few soldiers have already addressed this fallacy and I agree with them. They are not, in fact, fighting for "our rights"
