Brilliant post. I gave you a star. You should write a book - no kidding either
The one I read said we pick partners that in some way, represent our primary caregiver or other person who had profound influence on our day to day existence during childhood. Then we try to fix or correct in them, that which "bothered the heck out of us the most", during those formative years
So yeah, we try to fix people instead of understand them. They do the same and we get a tossed salad no one likes.

I have to agree with you and Charles and other's, some times you just can not post enough facts to back your statement.
They can't see through the Propaganda and Lies they've been fed.
It's Like The "Yes we Can" crowd,,,,,there's no hope for them!

I can't believe they allowed Biden to throw his hat in the ring,,,, Good GOD, the Democrats are Hurting,,,, I heard Hillary was getting ready to start to from one of my husband friends in D C.

Hello, Bilk22,
What ya drinking and welcome aboard.
Yes, she was right in many ways, I hope she comes back soon.

Your statement and I put in quotes:

You see I think it's a Cultural thing, in China when I was looking for my husband and my friends where looking, we looked for the best provider financially.

LOL yeah it most certainly is cultural. You were "allowed" to look, being in China? I was under the impression that family, and in particular, the patriarch needed to give approval. Maybe I'm wrong.

Ha ha actually I'm pretty beat, that last WWIII thread I did raged on for a week. Felt like I had the MSM talking point brigade after me and believe me, they don't like being confused by facts.

I'll just stay here stay here and chat for a while. They couldn't even suck me into that new anti-gun thread that's now raging. LOL.

I would like another JD though.

I did so as a courtesy.

Also feel free to declare "drop it" at any time.

My question is, why do you term them the MSM talking point team?
Also, do you not think that occasionally what is termed the MSM could be right?

Because many of the points being delivered to the discussion were straight out of the MSM directed propaganda push on the issue. A great many unsubstantiated claims IMO. Many of those claims were crafted right out of the State Department and administrations talking points. Honestly I have little respect for the MSM, their government handlers and believe almost zero that they'll ever tell the complete truth.

Also, do you not think that occasionally what is termed the MSM could be right?

Yes but finding the truth within the BS takes some work. The same when reading news report's from RT as they all have an agenda. I simply try to look at things from the point that all controlling interests are going to say things in a way that push's their personal agenda's.

Edit - As far as the "team" remark I made it was simply to suggest that there are on occasion forum gangs who will flock to particular topics, try to derail it all the while hammering the OP and any naysayers. Also they are generally not very polite unlike the folks in this thread.

You're not wrong, It would have been an insult to the family not to bring the prospective husband and wife home to met the parents and get the Nod.

There were arrange marriages as I was going up, most young men that are of a farming community.

Dear ATSers,

I really liked my first thread which was "almost certainly not for you." This one is not poetic or allegorical at all, but still, there are very many people for whom this thread will be repugnant. All are welcome, but many will not feel welcome.

Hernando's Hideaway? If you're as old as I am, you might have heard that slow tango advertising a place (in Iowa, as it turns out) which was a home for alcohol and prostitution. Surprise! That's not what I'm promoting here.

Wiki has a second reference.

"Hernando's Hideaway" also became a nickname for the smoking room for British parliamentarians in the House of Commons. The Labour Member of Parliament, Stephen Pound, told the House during a smoking debate on February 14, 2006: "I refer the House to the dystopic hell – 'Hernando's Hideaway' – that is the Smoking Room on the Library Corridor. It is like the Raft of the Medusa most nights, with great groups of people crammed into it."

THAT's more like it. (Although "Dystopic hell is a bit redundant.)

Our Hernando's Hideaway doesn't rely on imposing rules, rather it hopes to attract the type of people who already have the rules imprinted on their hearts.

1.) The care for a fellow Hernando is far more important than winning a debate, or even a war. People who are willing to treat people as less than human in order to gain some advantage, are less than human themselves and not fit to join with us.

1. a.) All people are fallible, cut your brother or sister some slack.

2.) Reason can lead to truth. Reason should not be used to attain victory or the humiliation of another Hernando. We are helping each other to truth and knowledge.

3.) Getting angry at an Hernando means something has gone wrong. A break from the keyboard is suggested.

4.) Hernandos try to get information and understanding before they say something is definitely true or false.

4. a.) We will never have 100% complete scientific proof. It is perfectly acceptable to present an opinion based on what information is available, as long as there is a willingness to change when better information is presented. It is perfectly acceptable to say, "Blast! I don't know nearly enough. Let's take this up a week from now."

4. b.) Evaluate the information. Do not reject anything solely because of the source, but it can be considered.

5.) There is nothing wrong with saying "This is as close to agreement as we can get. Let's set it aside for now."

Why bother with this? Because of two themes in ATS. One is that we are a family. Not a dysfunctional one, but one in which we care, at least slightly, for each other. Two, is that we deny ignorance. Expressed positively, we search for truth. Yelling at one another doesn't further either goal.

"OK, got it, now what?"

"Easy, we talk."

The search for truth in congenial surroundings is the topic of this thread. You can't go off topic if that is what you are doing, and doing it with respect.

May I suggest that because of the format limitations, we stick with one or two subjects at a time, but, really, wherever you feel we need to search for truth, and whenever, contribute.

There are short-term topics like Ferguson and long-term topics like the Creation.

What is human life? How do we find true information? Is the West dying? Is it moral for a nation to use violence in certain situations? What are they? Have they changed in the last 50 years? What does the Russian activity in Ukraine mean for international law and balances of power? Is Islam a different civilization, or just a religion with a few minor differences.

I honestly believe that answering these questions will lead us to an understanding of some definite truths about humanity. At Hernando's Hideaway we may find bits of truth and weave them to form a true humanity.

What questions to start with? Up to you, but may I suggest "What is the importance of man compared with nature?" "Can torture be used to advance a cause?" Or, "What is the purpose of the government?"

Alternatives? "Why is Justin Bieber so widely hated?" "Why do people go to movies at $10 a ticket?" "How can men and women understand each other, or even just get along?" Or, "Is doom porn as addictive as the other kind, and is there a cure?

I don't think the direction matters as much as getting started.

With respect for those to whom this thread is addressed,

Charles1952

My take on it is this: Once upon a time, the media was a competitive thing, a free market thing, every town had two or sometimes three locally owned newspapers and many radio stations, and they all competed for the most readers and viewers. They did this by trying to out compete each other with the news. They raced to get the stories first. They had actual investigative reporters who actually wanted to dig out the real truth and break stories no one else was talking about, or even knew about.

But now, every town or city has one paper, most of them are owned by one or two conglomerates. Even the radio stations are owned by two or three broadcasting corporations. And there are ... four main broadcasting networks with maybe one or two others added for cable.

Haven't you noticed that, pretty much without exception, they all tell the SAME stories every day in pretty much the EXACT same way?

Doesn't that get suspicious to you? What happened to competition? The only competition any of them engage in is who has the most likeable talking head to read the news to you.

So in a sense, that's why it feels like a script and talking points. None of them ever seem to deviate.

Just dropped in for a drink and cigar .. though nearly fled in sheer terror over the discussion on intersex communications .. still trying to find a translation app to translate woman speak .. no luck locating a reliable translator ..

You don't need a translator.... You need a woman who says what she means and means what she says. There are still some out there. I prefer that tact myself as I am too impatient to try and relay my messages in code only then to have to wait and see if he will get it this time since he didn't get it the last 500 times.

I prefer to cut to the chase and save that time for something else.

Once again the voice of reason and profound understanding. You are so right about say what you mean and mean what you say, it took 40 years but I found her and after 33 of being single I decided to get married again. Understanding is what we have about us and the love we have and share for each other. Your last two post were clear as fresh spring water deep from within the earth medicated or not. Mr. Kang is lucky to have had it for all these years, I am on 7 months, and it has been great.

are we still talking the war of the roses?

mike douglas one, not the real one.

i'm on my 2nd marriage, 13 yrs, first was 7.

all i know is, act like a man, expect her to act like a woman.
(grown up, ideally. save the childishness for the bedroom) whatever that means, to you. lol.

i realized i was not the end all of wisdom and intellect in a relationship.
or even the pretty one. (whoa, that was a wake up)

i learned to listen or at least look like i was.

also, i don't "go shopping" if i have nothing we need. doesn't save money but we are both much happier afterwards.
i have the advantage of being able to cook.
men and women love to eat, everyone remembers grandma's house. (if over 40)

men will basically eat anything, women not so much.
make everyday special, say good morning, say goodnite, say love you, hon.

kids throw a spoon in the veggie smoothie maker.
you really have to get together when you have kids. consistency. mom says no and dad will say yes, was/is all too common.

where the heck am i going? i have no idea, like i said, i'm on my second.

good luck to anyone craving advice.

always move forward.

that t-bone was awesome, saved the bone for the "kids".

PS, shout out to my friend guohua for the heads up!!
