"What astonishes me is that when ever the subject of chem/contrails comes up; you get the same debunkers insulting the members of ATS that have a different opinion. That in and of itself points to some kind of conspiracy. Are they working in concert with one another, do they have some sort of debunking network focused on chemtrails?

Members that are posting their observations or concerns hardly deserve the label of "village idiot".
I am not ignorant of contrails. But, I know what I saw. I saw 2 planes working together to make a grid. I could clearly see them both making the loop turn to come back across the grid.

Thank you. This is exactly why I refuse to engage with them. No matter what I say, they will never take it into account, nor do they read my posts thoroughly enough because of the questions that they ask me. I never said it was one plane in the sky, there were six going back and forth within minutes of each other. I said, it is not normal. I said, I've lived here for 15 years, observing the sky as an avid outdoors woman. Nooope. I'm just told I don't know what I'm talking about. I live here, I see it happening with my eyes. I don't need a radar to tell me what I'm seeing. And yes, those planes are unmarked, they are not commercial airliners. I lived near SFO for 6 years of my life and as a child near an air force base. I'm quite adept at seeing planes and identifying them from where I stand, as long as I have a clear view.
As for my camera, that was taken with a camera phone, I was out hiking. Suck it.
As for the military, there's no point in making something, like a helicopter, that is supposed to be hard to see, so it can hide and survive, and then painting huge, highly visible numbers and letters on it. That's one reason they removed the large white panel with the red cross from some helicopters. All it did was give an aim point to people nearby.

And automatically they were spraying something?
So you never thought that they could be commercial aircraft in a holding pattern or possibly military aircraft in a holding pattern, also where was this happening?
20 years of watching both military and commercial planes over the SW desert. NO, making this grid was not normal flight behavior. It was unusual and deliberate.
Hey now, I hope you don't think I'm the one who said that thing to which you replied (and quoted) in your post. I just can't use the proper Quotation function in my replies, it makes my phone browser flip out. Apologies to everyone reading, it makes it hard to follow.

There are numerous companies out there that will operate sampling flights for anyone with the money to do it. A number of groups that believe in chemtrails have had the money, and not once have they tried to get a sample to prove them.
Out of curiosity what groups that "believe in chemtrails" have/had the money but didn't do this? And how do we know they were not dissuaded? Or that results were not withheld.

Anyone doubting this should come out to the desert out here on any given day and watch the skies. It's like the planes are playing a huge game of Tic-Tac-Toe. Using binoculars, you will see big planes flying side by side expelling long plumes of who knows what.
You can tell the difference between normal contrails and when they are spraying their crap in chemtrails. This may sound naive, but why hasn't anyone gathered atmospheric samples to test in an independent lab using gas chromatography? The answer may be obvious, but I want other people's input.
