You probably did not see my post, but I am sorry, you have to read the full definition and yes that word according to Merriam Websters dictionary can be offensive, just thought I would share this.

Those terms have been discarded. Science recognize no biological race distinctions between humans, what you see as 'race' is entirely a social construct.

So if we apply the logic which you are attempting demonstrate with these 18th and 19th century classifications.
1. Negro = Negroid
2. Caucaso ? = Caucasion
3. Mongolo ? = Mongoloid

I tried very hard to follow the logic I really could not find 2 and 3.
but Websters surely does say that Negro can be offensive in the definition it provides us with.

The only time when cotton was an American cash crop was the civil war, in which the price of cotton was so low because we used slaves to pick them.

Hi secret009. This is just a small side note for clarity.
Cotton is still a large cash crop. I grew up in the southern San Joaquin valley of California, surrounded by 1000's of acres of cotton--even got crop dusted a few times.

The largest cotton farm in the world is in what basically amounts to a desert.
Today it is mechanically picked, 6 rows at a time.

Carry on...

I dont think you get it. There is some of the best soil media in the world in these valleys. Some of the highest grades of alfalfa is grown abundantly here. It used to be cotton, almost exclusevly. It was the number one employment available to everyone whether mexican, black or white. Now the number one source for cotton in those parts of the country is walmart. I would, personally, rather participate in farming than work as a slave to walmart

Wow, so I guess the Government lackeys have won with their misinformation. "deny ignorance" around here? Funny, this thread turned into a smorgasbord of ignorance. No wonder this country is becoming more and more divided every day. Do I agree that Bundy chose his words pretty poorly, of course, but I've read enough about him and this situation to see that the man is no racist. I feel sorry for anyone that could think that they know someone well enough to call them a racist after reading an article or two from a media that's proven to sensationalize and skew stories because they realize race sells subscriptions.

I have been called a racist for pointing out that the word negroid has a use in anthropology. The World Book encyclopedia I used as a child (1972 edition used the term listing the races of ma

So I am a racist and I am part black.

MLK Jr used the term negro in a non-derogatory sense. Bad on him, I guess.... I guess he was a racist too.

I'm out, don't need people calling me a racist when it is totally uncalled for. A calling other blacks 'tokens' when they have an opinion that doesn't match the PC crowd's line.

"Cliven Bundy was refering to a time past. He was refering to practically the only jobs available to anyone in the valleys in and around Las Vegas decades ago. "

What the # is a "time past"? Where do they grow cotton in Las Vegas? Seems kind of counter productive to grow cotton in a desert...Also, picking cotton was not the only job available. Today, 1/5 jobs is farming. Back then, it was 5/10. At it's most, it was half.
"Bundy is old enough to know that cotton was practically the only cash crop grown in these parts. "

The only time when cotton was an American cash crop was the civil war, in which the price of cotton was so low because we used slaves to pick them. NO ONE is that old. But you CAN be THAT racist.

uhmmmm, I am a racist for pointing out agricultural facts to uninformed and misguided posts and posters?

IS it because I said the word cotton?

I remember when my husband got a lecture from an African American fellow employee for calling him African American, the guy told him don't call me that I'm an American.

I guess we are all so confused, they have every angle covered, to get you in hot water with somebody, somewhere.

Maybe if the BLM knew how much he actually owed and did their jobs the way they were meant to there wouldn't even be a situation in NV. If you're okay with bill collectors showing up with machine guns to try and intimidate people into submission maybe you should check out some real estate in China.

If that's true why were there cotton fields in Texas southern New Mexico Arizona and Nevada in the 1950s, 60s, and 70s oh they were growing it for fun. My dads side Grandpa,s farm raised cotton as one of the crops to live off till 70s. My Aunt use to babysit her younger siblings while picking cotton putting the kid on the sack as she filled it drug kid and sack along. That goes back to 1930s. I haven't heard what was grown before 1930s

Here is a US map showing where its still grown today. Farmers dont grow cotton for fun it is a cash crop still by looks of the map.

www.agweb.com...

If you learn about agricultural you will find historically you would have miles of one crop. The cycle of farms ranches example month of march every one plants lease workers needed >> water irrigate the fields minimum workers >> Harvest all hands on deck and rotate threw crops ripening. usually every able body would be utilized.

living in bunkerville 1950s i bet 90% of jobs were agriculture. My home town 99% is agricultural related but in a city you cant find agricultural jobs exception produce stand at the market.

Thank you, basically many of the constructs or labels, "colored" , "negro" or any other words found in the dictionary, made in England or the USA, I will put money on it, these were not inventions, labels or categories created by the people that they apply to, of course they had no real say or vote in those inventions back in the olden days when the so called scientists were creating them, Negro College Fund, etc at the time that they were created, these were really the only labels that were in use and as you know the later constructed "african american" PC label was created to replace those controversial labels (negro or colored) I really like American much better as a choice , many birth certificates from say the 60's and into the 70's have negro or colored, show of hands who can produce one that has colored ? well I can raise my hand to that one and again I am a mutt of the highest proportions but I really take offense every time I look at my own birth certificate, just because the term or word was created and put into wide use does not give it any more credibility or validity if it really offends someone.

In the workplace in the U.S. if what you say either in a sexual manner or otherwise, to another co-worker, if they take offense and tell you that and you continue, more than likely the good ol HR department will be involved and you will probably be in big trouble, what we have for the most part are people who none of the comments that Bundy were directed at you except you could learn a lesson in family closeness, but to go beyond in deciding whether his comments were offensive to blacks or Mexicans and you are not in either of those categories probably is not such a good idea to go to great lengths to defend, everyone will take those comments in a different way depending on their own experience or background.

I really don't think that is the case, they could change their names, but again read my explanation, those terms were accepted and in use by all people even 40-50 years ago, newer politically correct categories were established because even back then those were becoming more controversial especially when blacks could actually protest and speak out about their rights 40-50 years ago without backlash beyond a firehose, beating or have dogs attack them, honestly out of 400-500 years of American history 40 years is not such a long time ago, but yes we have to move past these things, but when you have someone with a mouthpiece, regardless of color saying these ignorant things, and there is a rush to defend them, it really does say a lot about how people do view others in 2014, and they quickly fall for these simplistic and false stereotypes of other ethnic groups.

We are, and I really do not like that one either, it is sad we have to use categories, I am of all colors and about 55% happens to be from Africa the rest European genetically proven, but you will see me and put me in the black box, Stormdancer I think you really have a point, everyone is confused, I think it all started when being pure of any blood is above any other, sort of like pedigree and this is a pride thing, almost how the royals cherish their bloodline, Hitler and others who pushed for purity as better are largely to blame, because a lot of people subconsciously still think that being purer of anything is better and this is also the basis of why many people are tone deaf when it comes to whether what comes out of their mouth concerning minorities is offensive or not, they deem for themselves because they subconsciously go by the code that they are better, so when they say something it has more weight and we should agree, that's just my opinion, the worse one is when someone thinks they are more American the someone else just because of when they look at someone's features or skin color, what is the comparator here for that common mindset ? I hate to say, a lot of Americans do actually think like that, this is sad when the common denominator is flesh and blood.

I really have a problem with the " one drop of black blood and your black" mentality. Barrack Obama is the first mixed race president not the first black one. It's an antiquated way of thinking. Quite literally right out of the racist play book.

IMHO in the next 50-100 years I think the majority of the population will be so racially mixed that we can no longer pick sides along those lines.

We'll just pick sides over something else then of course. Maybe it'll be the shorts vs the talls lmao.
