Night 1

Lay in bed and close your eyes.

Do not get up.

Lay there until it's time to get up even if you don't sleep.

Night 2

Lay in bed and close your eyes.

Do not get up.

Lay there until it's time to get up even if you don't sleep.

Night 3

Repeat steps 1 and 2.

Eventually you will sleep.

I promise.

Exercise. More people ought to try it.

A few people have said that.
More exercise and do something to keep busy during the day.
I already walk four miles a day.
But could probably add two more if I had to.
Exercise is so BORING though.
I pray my rosary while I walk but still ...
Is being bored and sleepy all day good for you? 4 miles a day ain’t much. Taking a sleeping aid is just a crutch youll forever be dependent on. But hey, ignore good advice if it’s boring, I won’t lose sleep over it just you will.

I fall asleep in seconds and if I didn't have an alarm hooked to a speaker I wouldn't wake up.

I do that every night. Really.

Must be nice. My husband is the same way. Asleep instantly and sleeps all night straight through. He snores and sometimes talks in his sleep but he doesn't wake up.

I'm not bored or sleepy. Not really.

That's two hours. That's a lot.

That's my diagnoses as well...

And exercise helps relieve stress, unless you focus on what stresses you out while exercising. There's no escape....and insomnia can be an indication of something more serious either physically or psychologically.

I have heard that unsalted pumpkin seeds can help as they have a lot of trytophan
[see #10 here]
www.healthline.com...
They claim you would need to eat a lot of them though

If you have trouble sleeping, you may want to eat some pumpkin seeds before bed. They’re a natural source of tryptophan, an amino acid that can help promote sleep (32Trusted Source).

According to a 2014 study, consuming at least 1 g of tryptophan daily is thought to improve sleep (33Trusted Source).

www.myfooddata.com...

www.verywellhealth.com...

The body uses tryptophan to produce:345

Serotonin: A neurotransmitter involved in regulating mood, appetite, sleep, pain, sex drive, and digestion.
Melatonin: A hormone that helps regulate the circadian rhythm (sleep-wake cycle).
Vitamin B-3: Niacin is needed for energy metabolism and DNA production.
The body needs enough iron, riboflavin, and vitamin B-6 to change dietary tryptophan into niacin.

Also, if you are into CBDs...I have read that CBN is good for sleep quality.

I love pumpkin seeds. I wonder if I could get enough and how much 'enough' would be to eat some each night before bed.

I have never tried CBD and the thought of doing so scares me.

I dont think I feel stress or anxiety at night but you never know. I feel it during the day worrying about the usual stuff ... health, money, retirement, what comes after death, the usual stuff. But I suppose it could be holding on and effecting sleep. I'm going to try to add some kind of exercise but I'm not sure what. I walk four miles a day and that takes two hours. It's so boring - praying the rosary and all while it still gets boring. But I keep plugging away.

There is no THC in CBDs.
And if you decide to go that route, be sure it includes CBN which is the sleep part.

Have you tried Chamomile tea?
Or this....Tulsi Sleep Tea
I have used it for years and find it rather relaxing.
Or, use one tea of each

I was having a problem like this a while back. It was hard to fall asleep and I would wake up a few hours later and couldn’t go back to sleep. I also was feeling very anxious. I took CBD oil for about a week. When I take it I never feel anything at all but it seems to have fixed my sleep problem. I haven’t taken it anymore and now I fall asleep easy and I knock out lol. The brand I used was Green Roads full spectrum. I would take about 10 drops under my tongue.

What I'm about to type is going to seem so simple, some people will think , it can't be that easy.

And to be honest it isn't as easy as it may seem described..

But here it is..

Think about what makes you happy.

Think about it intensely, immerse yourself in the moment of your happiness.

Find that moment in time where you were truly pleased with yourself and your decision.

And relish it.

Good luck my friend,

Respectfully,
~meathead

Sure you aren’t, you don’t exercise because it’s boring and you aren’t sleepy because you made a thread here asking for help sleeping. Good luck, you can’t take good advice and leave it on the table.

4 miles for youe total daily amount of walking is low. Your choice to not change your life for the better. You’re the one who asked too.

I know you are a senior as am I...4miles seems like a lot. I try to get in a mile or 2 but on the river trails with lots of wild life, interesting vistas, mountain bikers running you down and a fine walk to and from my favorite fishing spot.

I was married to a Catholic once and she prayed the rosary a lot to relieve her stress. Op. Room nurse.
When my stress level gets up there I chant a mantra I learned back in my hippy days. It works very well.
But as you know I use THC infused gummy bears or lemonade before bed. As I get older good REM sleep is crucial for my mental health. Good Luck!!

eta....this my seem heretical but I feel that cannabis, and other psychedelics brought me closer to GOD. I still go to Mass but don't take the sacraments not being baptized in the church.

I have felt sleepy:
watching ancient aliens put me out,
play block puzzle for a half an hour on mute,
reading anything,
Take a magnesium supplement after dinner
take two benedryl, or take Tylenol pm a half hour before bed,
melatonin must be melted in your mouth not chewed up or just swallowed,
count sheep backwards from Three hundred,
tell yourself you will start worrying about XYZ at 8 am tomorrow.
Get a snuggly dog to hug and listen to it breathe in and out,
My son likes the white noise of a fan running,
Plug in a salt lamp, lay on a heating pad,
Spray lavender oil on yourself…
Stay away from caffeine after noon.
Best of Luck!

I dont know anything about the CBDs. I'm glad there is no THC in them.
I'll think about giving it a try.

As for tea, sounds like maybe trying it. I just don't want to be up
pee'n all night. Kinda defeats the attempt to sleep through the night.
But I could try.
