A new 3.8 just popped as I watched, yes strange calling it Or very confusing they are so far off.

I was raised in Gerlach as a child, the whole area in those mountains and valleys have springs and hot springs, all the old folks had stories of the ground opening up under people and just falling away the crust is very thin. It is a strange area. Back then some government people came and did tests on some of the hot springs rumoured to be bottomless and they used dye to follow the water, seems some actually were bottomless they followed tunnels and came up many miles away in other hot springs.
People drowned and bodies were never recovered over the years so I guess they just end up in the tunnels.

When I was looking at USGS< I too noticed they were in Nevada. But they have them labeled in Oregon.

I am (and have been) having problems posting links.

So I went with what USGS was labeling them

ME BAD

you should be able to just copy the address of the page (in the browser address bar) and paste it here on the reply page, it will automatically become a link (turn blue)
Easier if you can have both pages open in separate windows

OK I see what you mean, the address is too long (zoomed in map)
what you usually need is
[u_r_l_=] in front and ] link [_/_u_r_l] at the end, take away the _'s when you do it for real.

edit on 1100000030930914 by muzzy because: (no reason given)

That doesn't seem to work right for this address

The first part turns blue, and becomes a link, but it does look messy, blame the ATS setup

Oh Heck, this isn't working either. Jeez, I can't for the life of me figure out what I'm doing wrong.

I have to go to work now. Will try again later.

Thanks anyway.

Just for the fun of it...

Funny I just ran across this today the location is where they say there is an underground base

There are stories that California and Nevada sit on a shelf underneath which lies an eastern portion of the Pacific Ocean. Maybe the Pacific Ocean extends under that shelf to Hawthorne Nevada (and even further?).

Williams explains that not "all" of the areas in question are actually "resting" or "floating" on the ocean, however there are allegedly many subterranean cavities below the western U.S., and they are not limited to California, and many of them consist of very large water-filled aqua-systems. These have been explored via nuclear submarines to several hundred miles inland, particularly in the region of southern California and the southern Oregon - northern California area. Williams continues:

"...When he retired several years ago, in spite of about 10 years of intensive Naval study, the Navy had not gotten even a handle on their exacts and dimensions.

Mag 6.4 in Papau New Guinea Already downgraded.

No tsunami threat according to NOAA.

So, the action in NW Nevada is persistent, eh? Basin and Range crustal stretching/thinning?

What made you think that?
Full Moon?
I know we have been over this in past years about the Moon influence and it proved to be a fallacy, but here we are again, a decent sized one on a Full Moon.
And heading away, from Perigee on Nov3

What in the world is going on in NW Nevada? It has been shaking a lot lately and most of the quakes are very shallow near the surface.

Ha, ha, nope! I'm still on the fence about the moon thing!
Although, I do think it may be one of multiple factors,
that take place all at one time!

I'm going to be watching with interest, the near record,
low pressure system in the north Pacific this weekend!
I do think Eric is onto something,
with the connection between hurricanes & quakes.
When I went back & did a little digging awhile back,
on past hurricanes on the east coast of the US,
there did seem to be a connection to quakes there.

When I first started paying attention to quakes,
I noticed there was a trifecta of sorts before bigger quakes.
There would be 5's in S America, Japan & the S Pacific,
within a short period of time, usually in 24 hours.
Then a good sized one would follow.

The pattern seems to have changed, but the 'ping-ponging'
across the ring of fire, like an old time pinball game,
still happens sometimes before bigger ones.

Plus with fairly infrequent ones happening in a short time,
Africa region, Greece...
Then along the Central Mid-Atlantic Ridge, S Mid Atlantic, S Sandwich...
Like a lot of pressure is being exerted somewhere.
When Nevada started again,
I was hoping it wasn't something building off of the west coast!

Then Easter Is & Fiji happened & I wondered if that was it,
but the mid 5's continued. Solomon Is, Banda Aceh, Guatemala, New Guinea...

When I saw the 5.4 in Guatemala, I was hoping it wasn't a foreshock.
At the moment my whole extended family is in the Caribbean!
They got there yesterday, are staying a week,
& my sister must be on pins & needles!
One of her daughters told her, there can't be a tidal wave where they are,
because there is a reef! I think she was trying to set her mind at ease!
And no internet where they are staying either!!!

So I'm trying to keep a close eye on things for awhile!

If you change all the %22 (2x16+2=34 which is inverted comma) to " and %3A (3x16+10=58) which is a semi-colon etc, etc, you see that the bit after the URL is actually a JSON statement.

["feed":"1day_m25",
"search":null,
"sort":"newest",
"basemap":"grayscale",
"autoUpdate":true,
"restrictListToMap":true,
"timeZone":"local",
"mapposition":[[41.04207384890103.-120.9292 6025390624],[42.42142901536395,-117.61962890624999]],
"overlays":
["plates":true]
,"viewModes":
["list":true,
"map":true,
"settings":false,
"help":false]
]

The problem is that even if you bother to translate all that and then copy and paste the USGS site says:

"map" (and any subsequent words) was ignored because we limit queries to 32 words.

Your search - earthquake.usgs.gov...#["feed":"1day_m25","search":null,"sort ... - did not match any documents.

Suggestions:

Make sure that all words are spelled correctly.
Try different keywords.
Try more general keywords.
Try fewer keywords.

Search Results

Shortening it by leaving out the view modes data does not work either.

Italy has been quiet this year! ... no M5's, low energy released numbers (TTNT)

bulk upload of 2014, 10 new interactive maps at EQArchives, Italy 2014
mag less than 1= 6,178 , mag1= 12,600 , mag2= 1,728
mag3= 157 , mag4= 9 , mag5= 0
total= 20,672 total energy released= 1,069.466 TTNT

I went with M0.0 start, previously only used M1.0+, because there were a heck of a lot of icons on 12 maps, but with most people now having Superfast Broadband the maps should load reasonably fast, they did OK for me even though we are still on basic broadband.

Well I came on to say the Mag 6.1 in the Vanuatu Islands probably wont end up as a 6.1, but it seems no one has noted it anyway.

Here you go, the reason why the earthquake that did not happen won't be a mag 6

Italy 2013 has been upgraded to take account of ~M1 events, 5428 of them added.
2013 page here
mag~1= 5,428 , mag1= 13,426 , mag2= 2,410 , mag3= 250 , mag4= 24 , mag5= 3, total= 21,544 total energy released= 4,027.257 TTNT
probably doesn't mean too much in the big scheme of things, only equal to 1.07 ton of TTNT energy released,
but after the L'Aquilla fiasco I think it pays to take them all into account.
I'm still keeping an eye on Gubbio, since Oct 2013 (link to post here)
2014 has seen quite a bit of activity on the valley, but still no big quake.
I'm just building a new page specifically for Gubbio, monthly maps.
