working back from that I did a page on it
Samothraki, Aegean Sea 6.8Mw, 24/05/2014 and aftershocks

Rather than do the hourly maps and the cumulative maps as usual, and because the Fault won't fit in a 375 wide i-frame, I have done 4 hrly, 12 hrly and 24hrly maps with the accumulative (previous) quakes shown as ghost icons. Its hard to see the ghost icons on the first few maps but once they start to build up they become clearer, by 7+ days they will probably start to get in the way and obscure newer events.

Ok, my wife just woke me up and said the had the gnarliest dream. It was a huuuuge EQ that lasted ten minutes. She woke from this dream at about 6:16, same time the last EQ we had here woke us up, THEN just as I noticed that I was alerted of a 6.6 in Mexico just now!

Freaky freaky synchronistcic freakiness. Anyway back to reality.........I hope

(I see the Mexico quake is actually a 6.2, it did register as a 6.6 on my quake feed app though.)

i thought I would take a closer look at this. What a nightmare PHIVOLC site is, the date/time is in local time, but its in text and cannot be formatted to dd/mm/yyyy hh:mm:ss for conversion to UTC.What I did was take RASGS's data and convert that back to Philly Time, but still unable to sort the combined data by the TimeandDate column (becasue part of it is text and part is numbers), so i had to do it manually. In the end I left it sorted by Latitude.

Not sure what is going on here, there was a 5.6mb, but RASGS have a heap of 5mb's after it, seem a bit big to be aftershocks, so may be a swarm, but when you look at PHIVOLCs magnitudes (in MS) they are quite smaller, quite a lot smaller as in this particular one

Date/Time (PST): 01/06/ 2014 02:58 a.m.
Date/Time (UTC): 31/05/2014 18:58:30
Lat: 9.35 Long: 126.74
Magnitude: MS 3.4
Depth: 10km
Location: 061 km N 82° E of Cortes (Surigao del Sur)
Catalog Source: Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology
confirmed by Russian Academy of Sciences, Geophysical Survey as;
Lat: 9.23 Long: 126.58
Magnitude: mb 5.1
Depth: 10km

and this one;
Date/Time (PST): 01/06/ 2014 03:03 a.m.
Date/Time (UTC): 31/05/2014 19:03:16
Lat: 9.36 Long: 126.83
Magnitude: MS 3.8
Depth: 10km
Location: 071 km N 82° E of Cortes (Surigao del Sur)=
Catalog Source: Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology
confirmed by Russian Academy of Sciences, Geophysical Survey as;
Lat: 9.26 Long: 126.38
Magnitude: mb 5.0
Depth: 10km

PST doesn't stand for Pacific Standard Time BTW it stands for Philippine Standard Time (PST) which is eight hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC)

most of the other events that RASGS match are a bit closer, like (mb/MS) 5.3/4.7, 5.5/5.6, 5.4/4.7, 5.0/4.6,4.9/4.8

who knows? might just be a 5.6 and aftershocks, time will tell

Over the years I have been on ATS this perception keeps being posted over and over, thatis "quakes in/off Western Mexico lead to triggering events up Cal. way"
but I have never seen any evidence of this.
Do you have a specific series of events you can recall that make you think this will happen?

Had the strangest feeling just a moment ago, like there's going to be a significant quake shortly...had a quick look on USGS and notice there's quite a bit of activity near the Philippines right now.

Any experts wanna wade in on if the chances of a big one near the Philippines is possible?

Sorry Muzzy, no.
I'm not able to pull up any historical data to validate my comment.
It is just a perception as you say. If there are no more EQ's farther up the line in say - the next 24 hours, then it's probably just a misconception.

thats OK, but I'd go with it even longer than 24 hrs, there may be something to it.
Most people don't have the attention span to remember beyond a few days, or after a list on a network page rolls over, even if something big happens in a month or 6 months it still could be related to that one event.
Remember the odd one off California late last year was a one off M6, even that didn't cause anything new in Cal.
I've mentioned it before about the series of M6 and M7 quakes along the Fiordland coast, NZ over a period of 20 years, even the geologists said that by the end of it that they were all probably related (triggered), may not even be over yet (last one was in 2009)

Kefalonia, Greece is still popping out those M3's and M1's four months after that 6.1Mw, 26/01/14 quake and the 6.0Mw, 03/02/14 quake
I just did a massive update on the Kefalonia page and brought it up to date.
after the 7 day mark the maps revert to 24 hourly maps. I had been doing them on GSAIM, but lost the continuity when I went away out of town for 3 weeks.
So I have brought them over into the Kefalonia page and carried on from there.
@ 2,993.01 hours = 124.7days, 17.8 weeks, 4.1months (end of May)
based on the co-ordinates 38.68N,37.34S,19.56W,20.91E
summary
mag1= 2251
mag2= 2809
mag3= 473
mag4= 41
mag5= 1
mag6Mw= 2 (5.8ML and 5.7ML)
total= 5577
total energy released= 16,661.010

on the page;
147 interactive maps !!!!!!!!!!
3 timeline graphs
2 iris graphs
2 gcmt's
1183 words

might take a while to load!!
i did a speed test
Using Chrome from;
Agent Location, Size, Time (sec.)
London, UK, 33.4MB, 50.61
Montreal, Canada, 29.6MB, 50.03
Brisbane, AU, 29.1MB, 50.05
Amsterdam, Netherlands, 31.2MB, 50.89
South Africa, 27.9MB, 50.59
Paris, France, 32.5MB.73, 57.5
Firefox is about the same speed
but obviously it will depend on the speed of your ISP, and what time of day you look at the page
NZ wasn't on the list, but I bet we would be the slowest, several times I had to shut Firefox down as it never loaded at all, timed out and seized up, like Dial-up would.

Wild. How is it a 3.1 in virginia makes the USGS significant list but a 3.1 under yellowstone does not? the quarter must have landed on tails. Lets hope it not our tails we are kissing goodbye.
